yeah he said on The Daily Show he was negotiating for more money, saying it with a wink and accompanied by Stewart laughing
Seriously speaking, it sounds like Marvel/Disney doesn't want to give Downey Jr. percentage points on box office anymore as salary. I would attribute that partially to Marvel/Disney being Scrooges, but also perhaps they don't want Hemsworth, Evans etc. to get similar ideas.

IM3 has topped $1 billion globally, so supposedly he gets more than $50 million at this point.

It all is incomprehensible to me, but probably they'd be more willing to just give him a flat $25M or $30M check - for one movie - but skip percentage points of total box office. Can you imagine?  icon_razz

Now, pre-Iron Man and pre-Sherlock Holmes, Marvel Studios probably felt that giving Downey Jr. some percentage points was an easy risk. He seemed washed up, had no track record at that point, how could it hurt? Oops  icon_smile

Ha,that was pretty cool

meanwhile Iron Man 3 is now in the top 5 of all time high grossing films blah blah

I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say it could beat Harry Potter...Avengers maybe not,but you never know

The Foreign numbers suggest just how dwindling in importance the North American market is to movies nowadays. Or, it might suggest Iron Man/Robert Downey Jr. has wider global appeal than Batman. Or, that CGI-fests always do better in foreign markets. I guess it means whatever one wants to read into it. icon_smile

Compare that just 5 years ago (2008) to The Dark Knight:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=darkknight.htm
Domestic:     $534,858,444       53.2%
+ Foreign:     $469,700,000       46.8%

Even The Dark Knight Rises flipped to a stronger showing in foreign markets:
Domestic:     $448,139,099       41.3%
+ Foreign:     $636,300,000       58.7%

And Avengers last year (though its domestic numbers were off the charts too):
Domestic:     $623,357,910       41.2%
+ Foreign:     $888,400,000       58.8%

imho, domestic figures still mean something, but really, studios seem less concerned about the domestic numbers than if it can be a big hit overseas. IM3 really hasn't done all that well domestically, compared to other comic book films, but its foreign numbers may well match Avengers' crazy total last year..

I still can't help wondering what the numbers would be if 3-D pricing hadn't become vogue. I don't know if lower, "normal" ticket pricing would bring the numbers down (pricing), or up (more people attending movies instead of seeing $16-$18 prices and going "nah!"). Blah blah blah  Bring your own!

As much as I enjoyed IM3 (saw it three times afterall), imho, ultimately it's just more fun and more's at stake when there's ONE suit, and our guy Tony is IN it.

Yeah,It would be interesting to see how well Avatar would've done without the '3D fame' that came with it...i'll be fucked if people were going to see that for the story Tongue

Finally saw this today.

I agree that the kid was superb and stole nearly every scene he was in.

The middle section that some seemed to have a problem with was the strongest part of the movie, IMO.  In part due to the kid, but also because it's a key ingredient of story-telling: the hero brought low and having to rebuild himself.  Tony was still able to kick some ass in that state, and still be Tony in a hasn't-quite-learned-his-lesson kind of way, which is what makes the character flawed and great.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one tremendously.  I thought it was well-paced and not just a string of action sequences strung together.  They really balanced the character element with the action quite well, IMO.

While I suspected an aspect of what amounts to the twist of the film, I didn't suspect the fullness of it.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I certainly imagined that Guy Pierce was the big bad pulling the strings.  I never suspected the Mandarin was just a doofy actor.  Kingsley pulled this off really well.  I feel dumb for not having suspected the woman, actually, but I liked her role.

As for the post credits ending, I wasn't let down at all and thought it was perfectly in-line with the tone of the film.

Okay, this is all kinds of hilarious, just the picture is classic..it all turns out well in the end though

Kotaku

Quote
Boy Thinks He's Meeting Iron Man, Meets Actor Instead, Gets Very Sad

Jaxson Denno, who is 18 months old, is a huge Iron Man fan. So when his parents found out Iron Man himself Robert Downey Jr. was nearby shooting a movie, they arranged the meeting of a lifetime.

Like only an 18 month year-old could, though, Denno burst into tears when introduced to Tony Stark, because...he wasn't in the suit. No suit = no Iron Man for a tiny human. Cue the tears, and the amazing photo up top.

The story ends on a brighter note, though; seems once Downey Jr. started talking, Denno recognised the voice, and all was well.

Buying tickets to see Star Trek today.

Wife: What's that, Iron Man 3 or Iron Man 3D?

Me: Beats me, I don't think there is an Iron Man 3.

Yeah, we're not the demographic. We both agreed that superhero movies would be more interesting without all the fighting.  icon_lol

Makes me wonder what you'll think about Star Trek then, since I feel that Star Trek would be more interesting without all the action and explosions.  The demographic for this Star Trek series seems to be quite a few years younger than the Trek I remember.

I just saw ST yesterday and posted my impressions in that thread. In a nutshell, I too wish that it was less of a thrill ride, but there was enough substance under the sizzle to make for a good movie anyway.

Interesting Twitter Find. While it's a survey form handed out at a Captain America: The Winter Soldier screening, look at the list near the end.  Bring your own!
