Looking through this thread again,i have to say i don't really like all the other various suits,i know its probably going off the comics,but just give me the original suit from the first movie,that one looked the best IMO(as well as the circle chest thing instead of the triangle one)

The choice to cast Kingsley as a villain of Chinese ancestry must have raised a few eyebrows, but the filmmakers are aiming to defuse any controversy by making him more multi-cultural. "It's less about his specific ethnicity than the symbolism of various cultures and iconography that he perverts for his own end," Feige told EW.

I just don't get the Mandarin voice in the trailer. It doesn't sound like Ben Kingsley. imho, it doesn't even sound like Ben Kinglsey trying to sound like someone else.

It sounds more like a programmer doing a fill in, "Don't Really Use This Voice, It's just for Practice" voice.  

If you're asking my opinion, as an American/Korean, I would say, the casting makes no more or less sense than casting Mickey Rourke (!) as a Russian-accented heavy in Iron Man 2. They seem determined to always cast a past Oscar-nominee as the villain, ethnicity be darned.

Marvel would deny it but I'm sure the fact that Iron Man 3 is a China co-production (see: http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-04-16/walt-disney-to-co-produce-iron-man-3-in-china-with-dmg) plays into it.  Beijing film studio DMG Entertainment invested a bunch of money in the production. Are they going to get involved with it if the Mandarin is portrayed exactly as in the comics? Probably not.

I am tired of all the political correctness in films, and worrying about certain types or races of villains possibly offending a big box office region (see Red Dawn switching the bad guys to North Koreans, etc.). I stand by my earlier predictions that eventually the only "acceptable" villains in movies will be space aliens, and period/time travel movies with Nazis. I suspect the recent fixation with The Cartel as bad guys might fade away because not too many of those films made a mint at the box office.

And God help us if space aliens ever do arrive here and become part of the movie-going public. THEN who are we going to use as villains in summer blockbusters?

The beachfront property going boom reminds me a bit of the near-the-finale portion of Lethal Weapon 2, when Riggs yanks a support beam out using a pickup truck and sends the whole beachfront property crashing. Black didn't write that sequel though, so there goes my copycat theory.

So obviously i don't know much about the character outside of the fact that he was supposed to be magic / martial arts based.

But one thing I'm seeing in that picture is a lot of military references. His robes seem to have a lot of old-school military style camouflage as the under-pinnings. And the statue on the right has a lot of dog-tags hanging from it along with a helmet on the top.

Is that normal or is that possibly something they've added to the character for the movie?

did i know Guy Pearce was in this?,i think that's the first i knew,looks like Ben Kingsley as the main bad guy and Guy Pearce as the secondary bad guy....sounds familiar
