coming from Marvel in 2014. with the reveal at the end of The Avengers Guardians almost makes perfect sense to set up The Avengers 2. they'll be working with the 2008 version of the team, who have had a decent history with a certain purple villain. oh, and as a friendly warning, spoilers from The Avengers may pop up in this thread, so if you haven't seen the movie then read at your own risk.

Hopefully going to finally see The Avengers today
I am really glad that these movies are being made(That goes for the others as well Iron Man,Thor etc)because it introduces me to a lot more from the Marvel Universe, rather than just the main hero i already knew from popular culture ..same goes for the Marvel Pinball(not bought the new one yet),i hadn't even heard of Moon Knight, and looking at that list of Guardians of the Galaxy,i don't know any of the current members either
My comic book childhood consisted of Batman and The Beano(and then later Mad Magazine)

I know a fair amount about Marvel comics, but I'm not familiar with any of the Guardians stuff at all. I read the beginning of the wiki, noticed I knew none of the names listed and decided that I will remain ignorant until I see the movie. It will be interesting seeing it without having prior knowledge. I wonder how much better/worse the current movies would feel to me if I had not known anything at all about the characters.

Oddly, I have the first 20-odd issues of the original Guardians published in the 90s. I have read a few of the new ones, and they have practically nothing in common, except for an appearance by Starhawk. The original Guardians were like 1000 years in the future, the 2008 versions are in the present. From what I read during the Secret Invasion story line, it could be cool.

I'm not sure how they'd handle Rocket Raccoon without looking making it look like Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked 2.

Zero Dark Thirty's Chris Pratt to be in GotG http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/02/05/chris-pratt-set-to-lead-guardians-of-the-galaxy/ EW has confirmed that the Parks and Recreation funnyman will play the lead character in Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, a key part of Marvel’s Phase Two plan. Deadline first reported the news. Pratt, who recently slimmed down (and bulked up) for his role in Zero Dark Thirty (pictured above), will play Star Lord, the half-human half-alien leader of a bio-engineered team of space-traveling heroes that includes a green-skinned warrior, a gun slinging raccoon, a female alien assassin, and a fearsome tree-being. With director James Gunn, the man behind the shlocky masterpiece that is Slither, and newly-crowned leading man Chris Pratt, is there a chance that Guardians of the Galaxy will be an outright superhero comedy? The source material certainly suggests that the film could work as a totally ridiculous adventure, but, obviously we’ll have to wait and see what tone the filmmakers choose. funny they should mention it being a comedy, with the post before this one about Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler

Jim Starlin (creator of Thanos and Gamora) talks about Guardians: When asked his thoughts on the Guardians Of The Galaxy movie, Jim Starlin said, “You know the gal who plays Gamora, I kind of like, I’ve seen her in a couple of things, I can’t think of her name off the top of my head. The wrestler they got for Drax looks pretty cool. Apparently Thanos does make some kind of appearance in there, which makes sense because Gamora is sort of his foster daughter.”
Jim Starlin added, “I really don’t know much anything about it other than that. They don’t ask me down to the set on a regular basis or ever. So I really can’t tell you too much about Guardians Of The Galaxy.” sounds like he is puzzled by their choice to do a film based on them though: When asked out of all the Marvel properties if Guardians Of The Galaxy was one he thought they would have chosen for a film, Jim Starlin said, “No, because Guardians Of The Galaxy was one of the worst selling books for the longest time. I mean how many times did they bring that thing back and it disappear. I mean, well, you can say the same thing about the X-Men. They’ve come and gone several times.” I'm confused about his X-Men comment though.

X-men were teetering on eXtinction for a long time iirc. Seems to me that most of the X-men run before giant size #1 were reprints from earlier in the 60s

John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey(has not accepted yet) By far, though, the biggest news that's brewing about "Guardians" right now involves a character named Rhomann Dey. They've made an offer to John C. Reilly to play the part, and if he comes aboard, it's a big commitment. Basically, he's been designed as the Agent Coulson of the "Guardians" movies. He's the human agent who serves as a go-between, keeping the Guardians in line and reporting to SHIELD about their activities. seems it may not be that straightforward or they are hiding something(well i am lost as i don't know the character or the comics) What's that you say? Rhomann Dey was the leader of the Nova Corps in the comics and not a human being on Earth? And he basically became the Abin Sur of the Marvel Universe when he picked Richard Rider to give his Nova powers to?
Hmmmmm. Very, very interesting.

Amy Pond Joins the CastKaren Gillan, has signed on to James Gunn and Marvel's increasingly more promising GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
Marvel hasn't released details about who she will be playing, other than that she will be portraying a villain alongside Lee Pace and Michael Rooker. Her Doctor Who pedigree just adds more credibility to this increasingly impressive ensemble, which also includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, John C. Reilly, and Dave Bautista (who was my favorite part of The RZA's THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS).
Left to be cast are Groot, the walking tree, and gun-toting Rocket Raccoon. Unless they will be mo-capped and voiced by the same actor, I suspect we won't hear about the actors filling those roles until much further along the production (or, at least, until this August at Disney's D3 expo).

as said,The Cast keeps on getting better Benicio Del Toro Joins Guardians of the GalaxyMarvel continues to add some interesting acting clout to its space-set superhero fantasy “Guardians of the Galaxy,” with Benicio Del Toro the latest thesp to join the growing cast.
The character Del Toro would play has not yet to be revealed.
Like most actors that sign up to star in Marvel’s films, Del Toro’s deal will involve multiple films. EDIT: aicn adds one small detail AICN]http://www.aintitcool.com/node/62682]AICNThe specific role itself is being kept a secret for now, but it is described as a “lead role”, that is going to be a part of the Marvel Universe in future movies. AICN go on to ask could he be playing Thanos? EDIT 2: F*&KIN' CK!

We used to feed raccoons our leftovers after dinner (it actually kept them out of our trash can). We would put bits on a paper plate and set it out on the back patio, and they would come up like we'd rung the dinner bell.
One night we had a sitter, who maybe wasn't quite old enough I'm thinking now, and we all decided it would be a good idea to lead a trail of crackers into the house through the sliding glass doors that lead to the patio. The thing actually came in, ate a cracker while looking at us, then calmly turned around and left.
How we are not all dead of rabies is beyond me.
