I thought there was already a topic about this one but didn't see it.  anyways, they're finally getting the casting down for this WW2 adventure and we should be hearing about who's playing who over the next few weeks.  today they did confirm in a radio interview that Red Skull would indeed be the bad guy (I think there would have been rioting if he wasn't).

Joe Johnston is set to direct; he also did a little WW2 era movie called The Rocketeer.

I would be fine with a Capt America movie with the same 'feel' as rocketeer.  I also agree that if the red skull wasn't the nemesis there would be issues.

Are they going to keep this in WW2 era, or modernize it?  Didn't the Ed Norton Hulk movie talk about this program?

So if this will take place in WW2 any bets on the Avengers film starting with someone finding Cap's body encased in Ice in 2012.

it's supposed to be WW2 era, leading up to the events that start the formation of the Avengers (which I think is stilled planned to be released the same year):

Spoiler for Hiden:
Cap gets frozen and is missing for decades.

and MO, I think that first pic is a Marvel Ultimate Alliance loading screen.  you're thrid one doesn't like hotlinking, so here you go:

According to the Chud interview with the director,  "the Invaders will be in pretty much the entire second half of the movie".
Spoiler for Hiden:
So I guess instead of having Captain America getting frozen during his last mission at the end of WWII, happenning at the beginning of the movie, and then the bulk of the movie being about him adventuring in and  adjusting to the present day , it's going to be  entirely a Cap origin story/WWII action,  presumably with him being frozen at the end of the movie and then thawed out in the following Avengers movie.

The best way I've seen the Captain America getting transplanted to the present story handled was in Mark Millar's first Ultimates series.  The idea to change Bucky from Kid Sidekick to Photographer, and then having him live on in the present day, even marrying Cap's WWII girlfriend, having kids, and grandkids, was a good one, as it rubbed Cap's nose in the life he missed out on.  I wonder if any of that will make it into the film.

Not sure if that needed to be spoilered,  but what the heck.

Captain America was always one of my favorite comic book characters.   I loved the Invaders too.   I may have to dig out my comics that I have in storage boxes and see if I still have some of those. I'm glad they decided to have the story take place in WW2.

The posters for this look fantastic.  If they're really from the movie and depict the spirit which they're going with, this could be a friggin' great movie.

Also, the whole licensing issues thing just annoys me.  Fox owns Namor so he might not show up in the Invaders?  gah.  I would love to see him in a movie.   icon_cry

When Captain America throws his mighty shield,
All those who chose to oppose his shield must yield.
If he’s led to a fight and a duel is due,
Then the red and white and the blue’ll come through
When Captain America throws his mighty shield.

Remix by the Black Eyed Peas.

Hey, is he going to have 2 shields? You can't throw that shield he's got in the teaser poster.

In the comics,  the shield in the teaser is the one he has in WWII.  The more familiar, round, indestructible, shield, is one he gets in the present.    Or at least I think that's the current story according to the latest retcon.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Although, we briefly glimpse the round shield in Tony Stark's office in Iron Man.

He has gone through a few shields. Basically though his very first was bullet proof. His next one was forged from an alloy of steel and vibranium. Which is some way the formula for that is lost and reverse engineering discovers Adamantium  which of course is fused to Wolverine's skeletal system.

Well somebody predicted Ryan McPartlin ("Awesome" from Chuck) for Captain America on the IMDB boards back in 2005, it's been reported that he auditioned for the role yesterday along with some other relatively unknown TV actors who have a bit of a cult following.

I had him on my short list of guys I thought should be given a shot at the role.

The last Captain America casting rumor I'd read was Chris Pine (J.J. Abram's Star Trek). Post 9-11, a lot of Captain America comics and graphic novels dealt with him fighting terrorists on U.S. soil so I'd be curious if they went that route.

I don't remember Cap ever using a gun (not even in his WWII incarnation; the Wikis indicate Bucky, after the "death of Cap" a few years back, started carrying a pistol and knife in his new Cap incarnation), which makes me question some of the supposed movie posters. I do think it's tough to make a guy in a red/white/blue spandex costume with little white wing ears not look preposterous, so I wouldn't begrudge them revamping the costume. It's just sometimes you end up on film with something like Daredevil's silly brown leather costume, or the first Spider-Man movie's Green Goblin costume (which gave Wilem Dafoe no room at all to display his memorable face), or the Punisher movies where once you take away the cheesy shirt with a skull on it, you're basically left with a maniac hero with firearms who doesn't look much different than the criminals he's shooting.

The rumor floating around for approximately 24 hours that Jim Halpert from The Office was going to be Captain America caused me to do a double take.  The first because it didn't sound like a good choice, the second because the more I thought about it the more I could see it.  Steve Rogers in the comic book was a gangly, all american type who the gub'ment chose for those same reasons.

Edit:  Isgrimnur, please think before you post.  Hitting submit and then getting smacked in the face immediately by Carol Channing after being returned to the thread is just cruel, man.

edit 2:  too late, my man.  the damage is already done.  all i can see are stars and a giant ass grin now.

I guess this is good.     Evans wasn't bad as the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies.   His relationship with Michael Chicklis'  Ben Grimm was one of the better parts of the first movie.             I haven't seen him in anything else, and can't tell him apart from Channing Tatum from GI Joe.     He strikes me as a much better choice than some of the other actors supposedly up for the role of Steve Rogers.      The Office's John Kraskinski?  Seriously,  WTF?

So they've got a Captain America,  a Red Skull,  and a Director.   Now all they need to do is manage to write a good screenplay.     That couldn't be too hard, could it?

I am a huge huge Chris Evans fan, he's my favorite young movie actor right now.  I think he is absolutely one of the most gorgeous, perfect (physically speaking) men in existence and I pretty much will watch any movie he is in.

That said, I'm not sure I like the choice for him as Captain America.  I'm not much of a Cap fan anyway, but it seems like someone a bit older and/or more mature would have fit the bill better IMHO (I saw John Krasinski was on the list, and though I love John as well, I totally don't get that choice either).  I thought Chris was the perfect selection for Johnny Storm, and though he's done some more serious-ish work lately in Sunshine and Push, I think his natural personality is much more of that cute, roguish charming pretty boy type, which really does not say "Captain America" to me.  But we'll see.

Cap is actually very young physically, he's just mature mentally as the comic progresses.  Not sure he ages normally. (not counting the ice bit of course )  Thought he was supposed to be 18-20ish

I think Evans is a bit too slight for the casting, but I could be wrong on that. I remember him being ripped as the Torch (at least moderately so.. it was a long while back when I saw the Fantastic 4), but he never really struck me as being 'big'. Captain America should be a linebacker, not a wide receiver biggrin

didn't realize this was the same guy who played the torch.  I do have a problem with the same actor playing two characters in the same universe.  Seems odd to me.
