Looks like a rather typical sword and sorcery movie. Hopefully there will be more to it but considering the other films in the same genre being released it sort of wins by default.

It looked okay, but nothing in there makes me excited for it.
And the girl shouting, "Conan!" sounds a little too American for my tastes.

Do you want to nit-pick forever? If it's just that one moment, I have no problem, but if she's going to sound out of place through a lot of the movie, then I'm a little more concerned. It was a sore thumb moment for me. It's not like I'm saying, "Conan's loin cloth is clearly a man-made material, and I would even guess a lycra-poly blend which wasn't around when the first movie came out, let alone in Hyboria."

I was just going for a play on one of Sandahl Bergman's lines which is repeated a few times in the film. Guess I failed.

I hate to tell you this, the most recognized Conan themes are generally swords & sorcery and/or hunk saves damsel in distress stories. The source material has been around for 80 years, it isn't like they can really deviate from it that much or it wouldn't be a Conan movie. If you haven't read them, I'd suggest picking up a compilation of the Robert E Howard Conan works, they are excellent. They are the defining works for the sword & sorcery fantasy genre.

The trailer is edited so frantically, I couldn't ever see what the hell was going on. I was afraid I'd have a seizure watching it It seems more faithful to the source material than the Ah-nuld 1980s films, but color me skeptical as to whether that necessarily equates to it attracting a big summer movie audience. About Howard, I have read about him. It's so sad he died so young (suicide at age 30), though it's also great things he wrote in the 1920s/1930s still have so much life and appeal today. I'm sure he wouldn't have imagined that (that people would still read his works and even make movies from them in 2010+) back then.

That's because Corin is Ron Perlman

You'll be pleased to know, that the Funcom and the creators of Conan has made a deal to share art assets... Or, more correctly, to stay in the same art direction, so both game and movie can follow eachother a bit more than usually is the case.

first review I've read. There is no purpose to the film other than random blood splattering amid scenes of bondage, primitive savagery and S&M eroticism. The film is numbing and dumb with its hero indistinguishable from its villains. Conan fights under no moral code nor stands for any principle. I can deal with that

I can deal with that That's different from the original how? well, according to the review: Say what you will about John Milius’ 1982 version of "Conan," that film at least had a concept. Milius, long a student of Japanese culture, brought pulp fiction writer Robert E. Howard’s homoerotic, misogynistic barbarian of prehistory to the screen with influences of the warrior code of bushido and cinematic overtones of John Ford and Akira Kurosawa to create a Nietzschian display of unfettered male virility. The new film is merely dedicated to unfettered carnage in 3D. my brain just hurt.

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women. If they can work this quote into the new movie then I will consider it a win

I must admit, being a huge Conan fan, the trailers I've seen makes me have zero interest in watching it. It seems like the old B movie movies shot with a lot of cheap effects and have no reason whatsoever for existing.
