Interesting. This is the same guy that plays Khal Drogo in the (hopefully) upcoming Game of Thrones TV series, btw.

I mean that only the pilot has been greenlit by HBO so far. There's no guarantee that they'll agree to create more than that episode, though it's unlikely that they won't.

Is the story earlier Conan? Conan was a thief, not a freakin tank. Arnold was way too big for the role IMO.

He was much much more than a thief - he was a warrior,  a king and all of these at once.

And that's actually not a joke either. Robert E. Howard spends quite some time describing the bodies of both Conan and those he meet (mostly beautiful women).

The Conan stories can be construed in a variety of negative ways by today's standards, as they were written in a time that had not heard of the term "politically correct." There are numerous examples of "dark-skinned savages" kidnapping white women, black people that resemble apes, etc. As far as the descriptions of muscles and heaving boobs, I chalk all that up to the fact that he was a pulp fiction writer - his job was to titillate.

He was much much more than a thief - he was a warrior,  a king and all of these at once.

But in the beginning, he was a thief.

Not really, he was a barbarian, a warrior, a pirate, a thief, and a King.  Above all he was hugely masculine and well muscled, and frequently rescued the damsels in distress (although those aren't necessarily the best of the Howard novellas, he wrote those to pay rent because they sold well and he was dirt poor).

If you want the beginning, ignore everything but the Robert E. Howard, all else are impostors riding on a great IP (they may be great impostors, but they still are). I started reading the originals when AOC came out and became addicted.  He was one of the first mainstream fantasy authors (written in the early 1930s - Conan was created in 1932).
