DC Comics continues spreading the love with an adaptation of Constantine landing at NBC.

Quote
Warner Bros. TV and DC Comics are on a roll this development season with a third high-profile project. Constantine, a drama based on the characters in DC Comics’ John Constantine stories, has sold to NBC with penalty. It is written/executive produced by The Mentalist executive producer Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer, the go-to writer for Warner Bros.’ feature DC adaptations. Constantine centers on John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending us against dark forces from beyond.

I am actually dreading this; I think Constantine would work better as an FX or HBO show.  I don't think NBC is going to be able to do the dark tone the series has justice.

I think the sensibilities of network television are changing though.  Mostly due to the huge popularity of mature shows on FX, AMC and other non-basic channels I would imagine.  Look at Hannibal.  Who ever thought a show like THAT would end up on NBC?

Constantine is an excellent character and as Hepcat mentioned network TV is more open to dark and graphic as evidenced by Hannibal.  That doesnt guarantee that the show will be worth a damn but the odds are better now than they ever have been that a show like that could work.  Hopefully they do it right.

Make it a cross between The Dresden Files and Kolchak (the original, not the abortion that the networks vomited on us a few years ago) and I'll be one happy camper.

edit:  now that I think back, wasn't X-Files a bit ahead of its time when it came to graphic and disturbing content?  ESPECIALLY the episode Home (which I believe they only aired once and we're told never to show again on television).

"Home" was withheld for a couple of years after it first aired, but that ended in the late 90s. As for this show, I have no faith in NBC's abilities to properly translate the comic into a show.

I was disappointed that the movie didnt do great as I found it to be pretty decent overall.  Keanu was much better in it than I expected.  I kind of hoped that it would get a sequel or two but I was in the minority on that one.

liked the movie.  oddly enough I had already forgotten about Hannibal, I guess it was dark (didn't watch anymore of it after the network pussied out on airing the one episode), but I can imagine is FX's American Horror Story team being on this.  At least Goyer cannot do any worse that Nick Fury: Agent of Shield, right?

I liked the movie. But then I'm someone who generally likes Keanu even when I feel I shouldn't.

No one ever asks me (mainly since I am a nobody) but, of I was DC, I would consider a Books of Magic mini series if I wanted to tie movies and tv into one universe ala Marvel.

Books of Magic would introduce the magic side of the universe (Constanine, Stranger, bumping into Deadman, Zantana, Hell, Fairy, etc.). I think that could open up the rumored Justice League Dark movie. Constantine could spin off of that. Think of the guest stars and cameos that opens, not to mention bads that were introduced at the club.

Otoh, I'd rather "Song for Orpehus" be on HBO than American Gods.
