This is Bane Not this Actually, this is the original panel: Bane is much smaller than the one you posted. Although Tom Hardy is smaller than either one from the comics, Nolan's Batman movies have always been more grounded on reality. Hardy fits that bill much better than a mountain of muscle.

I think it's a very good thing they changed his look. I mean, in those drawings even Bane's muscles have muscles!

I understand that and as I said I have faith in Nolan generally but I think purposefully picking a villain known to be huge - larger than is really possible- and then changing him is an odd choice. However this a battle that has raged since the first pics of Hardy came out so I won't continue and like I said I will see the movie. I am just wary.

never really cared for Bane the way they made him in the comics (basically for a publicity stunt) so I'm hoping Nolan does better with him. still would have loved to see Nolan take on the Riddler though.

One of these days I am going to have to give in and watch Batman Forever. I didn't even know Bane was in that.
EDIT: Make that Batman and Robin. I don't think I've really seen either.

both directed by Joel Schumacher Batman forever is watchable i guess, but Batman + Robin(which continued the cartoony/comic book/bright colours look) is on a lot of people's worse films ever made list(mostly at number 1),and quite rightly so it's an awful, awful film,i am not even sure i could recommend it to watch ' for a laugh' or ' just to see what people are hating about it' it even doesn't apply for a ' turn your brain off and enjoy' type film IMO anyway Maybe in 100 years it will be the new 'Plan 9 from Outer Space',where its so bad, people like it...but thankfully i should be dead by then

A lot of people reduce Bane down to being just a bunch of muscles (like in Batman & Robin), but in fact his other defining characteristics were incredibly high intelligence and strong tactical abilities. He didn't just beat the crap out of Batman, he wore him down slowly over time, and struck only when the moment was right. Clearly, The Dark Knight Rises is emphasizing Bane's intellectual prowess, since they can't have the mountain of muscles as part of this take on Batman. I think he looks great.
Though, like others have said, I'm disappointed that we'll not see a Nolan-verse version of the Riddler. I also think the Penguin, as a dapper criminal mastermind, would have been interesting to see in this style of Batman film.

as long as The Penguin didn't have what was meant to sound like a cockney accent **shivers** It is a shame not seeing the Penguin and Riddler, but then again that's another way of Nolans universe 'keeping it real' so to speak by not having baddie after baddie i suppose, but Riddlers riddles could of been great I personally hope though that we will have at least another cameo by the Scarecrow(Cillian Murphy)

This may turn out to be completely off, but did any else get the impression from the trailer that Nolan might be drawing some inspiration from the Occupy movement? Specifically, Hathaway's line about the rich vs. the rest of us and then showing the people (well, prisoners) rising up.

Bane speaking clearer http://www.moviehole.net/201251206-batmans-bane-will-now-speak-clearerseems Warner Bros has bullied Christopher Nolan (who said he wouldn’t be modifying the voice of the character so one could actually understand what he’s saying sans transcription) into cleaning up the audio. Collider has heard from a source who claims that the soundtrack of the “Rises” prologue has been cleaned up. “A friend of mine who is an IMAX projectionist told me they received a new soundtrack for the Dark Knight Rises prologue. He said it’s now a combo soundtrack with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, but the cool thing about this is that they’ve cleaned up the dialogue. They’ve gone in and lowered the background noise of the plane and other things, thus making Bane’s dialogue clearer and more understandable. He asked some people after they left the movie if they could understand Bane and they all said they had no issue understanding him, and were excited for the movie.” So Nolan hasn’t caved in and had Hardy do any ADR or reworked the dialogue but he has recognized that the audio needed some work.

Not that the MPAA rating was ever in doubt but Dark Knight Rising got a PG-13 rating. The MPAA handed a PG-13 rating today to "The Dark Knight Rises," for "intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language." The rating itself does not mean the movie is totally done -- films often screen well before the director is finished with technical elements like visual effects, sound design, and color timing. But it does provide us with a tantalizing indication for what may be in store with a wildly anticipated film that has otherwise put a high premium on plot details. Namely: Language? Sensuality? Intriguing!
As a point of comparison, 2008′s "The Dark Knight" won its PG-13 for "intense sequences of violence and some menace"; 2005′s "Batman Begins" was a PG-13 due to "intense action violence, disturbing images, and some thematic elements." Beyond the obvious differences between "violence and action," "violence and some menace," and "action violence [and] disturbing images," it appears that the final film in this trilogy is branching out into some new territory for the franchise. Presumably the "sensuality" and perhaps language is Catwoman-related, and not Bane having a mask fetish.

Are people in the film not meant to recognize that Catwoman is Selina Kyle because of just that mask?...sure it worked for Robin, but i thought this was the more 'real' Nolan Batman?

Absolutely not. G.Reeves Clark was less of a bumbling act than Dean Cane's. He has always been my favorite portrayal of Clark on TV.
