I will concede that a plot exists.

I will concede there were subplots.

I will concede there was a twist.

A grand reveal.  An intro.  An ending. A love story. Misunderstandings. Loss. Gain. Confusion. Vindication.

And heroism.  Oh such heroism!

Above all; There were words.

I was there. I saw it happen. And I knew.

Without any doubt.  That this was how a movie trailer should be made.

A movie trailer that most can only conceive of in their wildest dreams!

And like those dreams, the words are forgotten.

Were they ever worth remembering?

Did we learn anything?

I think NOT!

Because this was not meant to be an epic tale in truth!

It was meant to be an epic tale in synopsis!

What can you say? Money talks. I think he did a good job with T3, so I don't hate on Bay anymore. Bring on 4!!!!

And, please, Michael: Grimlock! Dinobots! Galvatron! Cyclonus! Hot Rod! Unicron!

there is a Google translated Chinese interview out there that 'confirms' the Dinobots are in, except they'll be from the hood.

Spoiler for Hiden:
kidding about the from the hood bit biggrin
Spoiler for Hiden:
or am I?  this is Michael Bay after all icon_twisted

I know the part of "Hong Kong" was downtown Chicago. They had filmed a bit of it around our building awhile back. Had Taxi lanes painted on the street with both English and Chinese writing. And a fake bus stop outside our building with some advertisement for a yoga thing.

No, the third movie mostly plays it straight, at least in the same way as the first movie did. If you liked the first one, you should watch the third as it's really quite decent.

Ick. The third one was still about the meatbags. Also, Optimus caught in cables for ages .... dude has a flaming sword/axe/  thingie and jumpjets. Really?

As long as you're expecting anything else, you'll always be disappointed. They have made no secret out of the fact that they don't have the budget to create a movie with the Transformers themselves on screen the whole time.

Also, the original cartoons featured humans all the time as well.

The third wasn't as bad as #2 but it still sucked. The very definition of mindless, and loud big budget Hollywood movie.

It had some neat scenes, but right around the point where "flying squirrel suits are the only way we can do this!" I just got way too fed up by the stupid stuff.

Just got back from seeing it (wasn't by choice) and it was pretty bad. I figured that at least the action sequences would be good so that the three hours would go by a little easier. Nope. Mostly they just show a robot dodging or getting hit by crap, then skip to something blowing up. Throw in a couple of car chases for good measure. The movie could have been 30 minutes shorter if all the slow motion shots were in real time. The script was embarrassing it was so bad. The soundtrack...I'm old I am guess, but it was painful. Most of the special effects were good though. That's about all I can say. Not sure why Michael Bay is given money to make stuff like this.

Side note, $14 for a popcorn and large drink??? I can't believe how expensive it is to go to the movies nowadays.

No. slywink The first was bad, but I remember enjoying the special effects/action for what they were. The second one I don't really remember. Didn't see the third (I actually thought this one was the third). Admittedly I am a movie snob and this was very far from the kind of movie I enjoy.

It did seem like it fell flat with the audience as well. Lots of little one liners throughout the movie that got lots of laughs at first, but less so as the movie went on (one character in particular gets increasingly silly as it progresses). The same few people who laughed throughout cheered at the end, but that was only maybe 6 people in an almost full theater. It was a late showing, but by the 2 hour mark the audience seemed very restless. Although, initial audience reaction online seems good so far.

Expensive???  Try watching a film here in Chicago.  I had to prostitute myself in the alley behind the theater to get money for a medium sprite.

...and by prostitute I mean threaten to take off my shirt if they didn't pay me.

Speaking of horrible experiences, I refuse to pay for any movie featuring the Walhberg.  My hatred of that schmuck knows no limit.

Maybe I am immune to it, but I only noticed it once where it was really blatantly over the top. Something is traveling down the road at a high rate of speed and there just so happens to be a Bud Light truck going right through the intersection. It's done in a way so the truck stands out so that your eyes go right to it. The thing hits the truck spreading aluminum bottles of Bud Light everywhere. A character opens one, takes a swig and says yet another cheesy line. Outside of that, I don't remember anything other than the normal stuff like you can clearly see a character wearing Oakleys, etc.

I think for 3 of us the whole night was about $80. Maybe $25/person for 3 hours of "entertainment" isn't bad? How much would it be in Chicago if everyone ordered a snack and drink as well? Luckily we didn't do dinner first or I would be eating ramen for the rest of the week. :-)

hmmm when I saw it, I don't remember it being displayed as a commercial.  There wasn't even a transition from show to commercial, you know, the station logo disappearing, and cut to black before the commercial.  It felt organic, until the focus on the candy bar.

You make that statement expecting us to believe you wouldn't do that even if you didn't need the money.   Tongue

All of this is confirming my intentions to not waste a cent on this and maybe, MAYBE, watch it if it shows up on Netflix.

I just got back from an afternoon showing of this.  Based on reviews and this thread I was expecting an epic trainwreck, but actually I didn't think it was that bad.  I'd rank it much higher than #2, better than #3, and probably pretty close to the first.  It was a little less silly, a little less sexist, and a little bit closer to respectable than previous entries.  Not a great movie by any means, but I didn't find the plot to be as incomprehensible as reported.  I actually liked some of the callbacks to the old cartoon origins of characters...

Spoiler for Hiden:
Galvatron as a reincarnation of Megatron, Lockdown as a bounty hunter.  The reason for the Dinobots not showing up until late was perfectly fine, and I thought they were great as the calvalry.  No mention of Witwicky at all was a little jarring - wasn't Bumblebee supposed to be his best buddy?

Anyway... a solid 6, maybe a 7 out of 10.  Some plot holes, maybe, but definitely not as bad as the critics are saying.

edit: oh ya, the product placement.  I definitely did not find it as obnoxious as everyone is saying.  I was looking for it because it keeps getting mentioned, but if I hadn't known ahead of time to watch for it I probably wouldn't have thought much of it.  Sure, the Bud Light shot was pretty obvious, but otherwise it wasn't that bad.

It's falling quickly in the audience ratings as well as time goes by. I know this means nothing to you guys, but my 15 year old niece loves Tansformers. She loved the first 3 movies, watches them entirely too often, collects the cheap toys (that I am not allowed to transform because I will break them), and wouldn't shut up about this new movie. Even she was disappointed. I told her she us finally becoming an adult. No offense to those of you who liked it. Tongue

Curious what you mean by this movie being closer to respectable, Rowdy?
