[kickstarter] Rifftrax attempting to take on Twilight

The guys from Rifftrax are trying to get the rights to Twilight for a live event by starting up a kickstarter campaign.  For the 3 or 4 of you fellow nerds who are not aware of Rifftrax, it's 3 of the guys from the original MST3K group.  The live events they hold via satellite to various theaters are great fun and I've been to about 3 or 4 of them so far. 

People must REALLY hate the Twilight films as they've almost tripled their goal within the first 24 hours of the project.

I saw this and I went all totally and threw money at them immediately.

I do hope they get to do this live. Twilight is one of their funniest riffs.

You do realize they are already more than 3x over their goal?  Pretty sure they will get to do it live and then some.

Yeah, I think the hard part is getting the studio to give them the rights to do this.  But even if they can't get Twilight, they've said there's a large list of most hated films they'll work down until they do get something.

Honestly, I feel fine with throwing 15 bucks at them just for the shorts and other goodies they're giving me.  

And I have to say it again:  if you get a chance to see one of their live events at a local theater (they're beamed in via satellite) don't hesitate...just go.  They're a lot of fun...especially with a large audience.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Of course the Kickstarter succeeded (and fast!) - it's all about getting the rights to basically 'broadcast' the movie and then poke fun at it while doing it and such.

Also, yes, their live events are fantastic. New content over their usual riffs, plus you get to be all around people who will laugh at the silliness as well!

update:

Bad News:  they couldn't get the rights to Twilight after all.  They said it was a very amicable meeting and that they left the door open for the guys to riff on it in the future, but right now they believe it's too valuable a commodity for them to mess with.

Good News: They're doing 1997's Starship Troopers.  For some, that's one of the holy grails.  It's supposedly coming in August as another live event in theaters.  I will be there the day it opens...unless it's during Gencon.

...ah hell, who am I kidding, I'll make time and find it even then.

I love Starship Troopers... but I'm also pretty sure they could mock it effectively
