Why so serious?

It's that time again! Due to the popularity of the new iPad in my house, I went ahead and got one for my wife as well. Being that she will be traveling with hers more than I will, plus our daughter will spend more time with it as well, she wants something sturdier than the smart cover.

So it's up to you guys to point me in the right direction! About the only thing that she really wants is a case that takes advantage of the smart wake feature. She's open to any suggestions, so suggest away!

I have a Dodo case on order, not sure when it will ship but probably soon.  Looks great but perhaps not the sturdiest for travel.  Www.dodocase.com

I got the Pad & Quill case for my wife for Christmas.  At first she complained that it was heavy and bulky, but the functionality of it combined with the number of compliments received have made that far less of an issue.  It also protects the iPad very well.

I have been quite pleased with my Apple smart cover. I realize it's not a case but I have never had a scratch on my screen. My iPad 2 got a small scuff on the back but it didn't matter to the buyer when I sold it last month.

I'd like to hear some impressions after you get it. I've looked at a bunch from Targus, Belkin, Kensington, Case Mate, Dodocase, Incase and Speck but can't decide on one yet.

I am insane when it comes to iPad cases.  I've bought so many I could probably open my own store.  I go back and forth depending on my mood.

What I generally come back to the most is the Smart Cover plus a back shield such as:

http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Snap-Shield-Cover-Apple/dp/B004X8R7VA

I like that there is really almost no added weight.  I used a book style case (similar to the Pad and Quill) for a really long time, and really liked the look and protection, but sometimes the weight bothered me.

Hmm, that Aura thing looks so classy....  must resist....

I hear the BOOKback recommended quite often and heartily for filling that role.  Gives a nice feel, protects the back from scratches, and hardly weighs a thing.
