I saw a sneak preview this evening. I don't want to say too much, so I will just say that the concept is great and it was surprisingly well done. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. A few of the songs were just brilliant. If you like South Park humor and can handle the crude stuff along with the clever, this is a great Friday night flick. I'm trying to figure out what they cut out of the one controversial puppet sex scene -- looked rather thorough to me (and I may have even learned a few things).

I kept the above post very general to avoid any spoilers. I look forward to more discussion and obligatory quote-trading after more folks see it.
I have a few of the songs stuck in my head today, which could be a problem if I unconsciously start singing the lyrics out loud in the workplace.

I'm trying to figure out what they cut out of the one controversial puppet sex scene -- looked rather thorough to me (and I may have even learned a few things). I was at the Saturday night screenings that they had, so I've also seen it. If I understand correctly, the sex scene was originally supposed to be rather brief and included Gary and Lisa, shall we say, orally pleasuring each other. The MPAA balked at the scene. Trey and Matt got annoyed ("They're puppets! They don't actually have genitalia!") and responded to the MPAA in the same way that they respond to the censors on South Park - they made the scene raunchier. And they kept doing that until someone's brain broke and they approved the scene. Zap "I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark in Pearl Harbor."

That's good news that there's more than one song, because those guys are absolutely brilliant with them. From an interview I watched with Parker & Stone they made it sound like there was only one musical number in the movie.

Andrew Sullivan reports that the left wing is pretty upset with the movie. I won't spoil anything, but Parker/Stone are VERY brutal... and also very funny.

I counted at least 7 original songs in the film, plus there's an ode to Alec Baldwin that plays over the end credits that I didn't stay for. (Oh, and one song "borrowed" from South Park, which was a bit annoying.)

I thought that I had heard that the original sex scene included a, ahem, golden shower.

Odd. Preview I saw seemed to have a rather left-leaning bent to it. I would think the Right would be teed off about this one. Maybe I just missed something. Seemed like they were satirizing the War on Terror pretty heavily.

Seemed like they were satirizing the War on Terror pretty heavily. Without spoiling anything... they take the blanket approach and satirize a ton of things: the war on terror, Hollywood, action movies, puppetry, etc. I still have a few of the songs in my head. Sigh.

they hate both republicans and democrats, but with this movie they are out for liberals. i think it was their way of countering the F/911 craze earlier this year which made many people sick.
