A wee bit of info at Collider: http://collider.com/the-last-stand-trailer/189522/Here’s the official synopsis for The Last Stand:
Action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his much-anticipated return to the big screen in Korean director Kim Jee-woon’s hard-hitting US directorial debut, THE LAST STAND. After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction.
But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy. With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow. While I'm happy it's a Korean director, it sounds like a 2-hour Chevy Corvette commercial. And as I pompously postulated in the Red Dawn thread, the only Politically/Box Office Correct non Space Alien enemies in movies now are The Cartel, and The North Koreans. If those two groups start buying more movie tickets, we'll have no more terrestrial bad guys in non-comic book movies anymore.

uh, massively armed drug group moving on the US border? why not call the military? can't wait to hear their explanation for that; perhaps they're still busy dealing with the not-Chinese.

There's also the question of why some podunk sheriff would be in the middle of what presumably would be a massive FBI reaction.
But then these kinds of movies usually throw logic out the window in favor of whatever story they want to tell.

When I first started reading that synopsis I was thinking of Stallone's Copland, but then it quickly took a turn into BigStupidville.

In the US since he escapes from FBI custody - Posse Comitatus is the reason you do not call the military.

Well - someone was trying to ask a "reasonable" question, so I replied. But it is the movies so might as well call in Delta Force. That's it. Chuck Norris and Arnie joining forces....

When I first started reading that synopsis I was thinking of Stallone's Copland, but then it quickly took a turn into BigStupidville.
Just to totally derail the thread, I 15-years-belatedly picked up Copland on DVD a couple weekends ago. I finally saw the whole thing on TV, and even if it seems like a remake of High Noon, liked it. imho, he held his own amongst great actors (De Niro, Keitel, etc.) I really think Sly could've gracefully aged into character roles and indy films (which is basically what the original Rocky was) if he wanted to. Sort of as Clint Eastwood has done from Unforgiven onwards. It's a shame Stallone did Copland and then seemed to basically run away from the idea of doing smaller movies and playing more interesting characters. But I get the impression Sly likes living a life of luxury and can only do that beating his franchises into dust with endless sequels (Rambo, Rocky) and doing larger-than-life action roles. ========= Getting back to The Last Stand, if you're wondering who director Kim is, here's his imdb: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0453518/He's done quite a variety, including horror and action adventure. The Good, The Bad, the Weird (set in 1940s Manchuria) sounds fun: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0901487/

Talk about a throwback, that poster could be straight out of the 70's. As I'm sure they intended.
