 Be on the lookout for... Attack The Block! This cool horror-comedy flick hails from the UK (from the producers of Shaun Of The Dead) and I caught a sneak preview last night. It's about a group of inner city thug kids who's high-rise project building is invaded by razor-sharp-toothed aliens from outer space. Think 'Gremlins' meets 'The Goonies'. It's all very well done, entertaining, gory and quite funny. The young actors do a terrific job, and Nick Frost is in it.. The movie premiered stateside at the SXSW Film Festival where it won the Best Midnight Movie award. Screen Gems is gonna unroll it in screens this summer--not sure of the specific date--but be on the lookout for it.   |

Read glowing reviews about this on Aintitcool (one of these days I really need to attend one of their Fantastic Fests) and have been eagerly awaiting it.

even though it was released a few weeks ago here,i saw very little advertising for the film probably because of the indie feel to it,but it does look good,and it has been getting some good reviews saw this on wiki US distributors are concerned that American audiences might not understand the strong South London accents, and may even use subtitles if it is released in the United States  decide for yourselves with the trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cD0gm7dHKKc |

Both edgar wright and nick frost have been promoting it on twitter lately. Don't know if it will get a screening here but I will look for it when it hits dvd.

I don't think it had any accents, but it did have plenty of abnormal speech patterns and slang. I'll be waiting for Attack the Block to be available on blu-ray so that I can turn on subtitles, I think. |

The slang isn't bad and neither were the accents. It was a fun popcorn movie, though. Not great by any stretch... But you eat popcorn, get entertained and then forget you saw it.

Despite receiving a copy for Christmas I only finally got around to watching it last night. I had a smile on my face for the entire 90-min running time. Great film, good humor, entertaining social commentary, and just a quick, fun ride. The video game references were also well-timed and pretty funny. Loved the movie. "Big alien gorilla wolf motherfuckers!"  |
