Aaaah!  Goddamn those Blizzard guys!  Here I am with a morning to kill and they take the servers down for maintenance!     How could they?!

OK, so I realize it is normal procedure and necessary to keep the game running well, but I just have to vent.

There's speculation there might be a patch since all servers are down for 4 hours...

course that's just hearsay. It's just scheduled maintenance and they'd probably give a sneak peak of the patch by now if it were coming out so soon.

Servers should be up by 10 PST/1 EST I think.

I have to say I really do not like Blizzard's lack-of-communication in regards to patching. During beta, I hoped it was that way because it was beta, but it appears like it might not be.

I guess i was spoiled by DaoC's way of doing things. You knew when patches were coming and exactly (well, 99%) what the patch was doing. They definately get an A+ in that department.

Yeah, while my first post was made as a joking vent, I'd have to agree with you here.  There are often times when the servers are brought down with as little as five minutes notice (that I've personally seen).  And "large" downtimes and potential patches like this one happen without any prior announcements.  More communication would be much appreciated.

I play every morning before I go to work, from 6:15 -7:30 AM Pacific.

Which, of course, is right in their maintenance window.   :x

Why don't they do this sort of thing at 4 AM?  What, their server guys want to sleep or something?

Selfish jerks.

Servers are coming online now.

The biggest (read: only) change?

Your characters aren't naked on the selection screen anymore.

That's exactly when I get a chance to play, too... Yeah, I wasn't happy.

But, it's only one day. And I get the next two off to play like mad.

And our characters aren't naked anymore? Damn. I was enjoying the view. biggrin

So maybe the databases have been overhauled and the auction house and mail may work as intended finally.  That'd be very nice.

How have they not been working as intended before?  (aside from the blank message to send items bug).

I probably didn't phrase that well, sorry.  I meant just work mostly.  It seems  like 50% of the time I try and use the AH it is down, or so slow that it is virtually unusable.  It is a great resource when running, so it makes it that much more frustrating to have it down.

I'm just glad character equipment is visible.  I keep wondering what the front of my characters look like, and I still haven't figured out how to turn the camera around so that I can see them.

Hold down the left mouse button and move the mouse around to turn the camera.

I figured out how to turn the camera, but my character always turns with it.  So I'm alway facing the wrong direction.

Ha!

Actually, I had a devilishly hard time figuring this one out the first time, myself.  I could've read the manual, I suppose -- it's probably in there somewhere.  But who would do a silly thing like that? slywink

Maybe I should just go use a mac - only one button and no sharp edges.

If you didn't know how to move your camera, you may want to check out this list of tips for some more things you may not know and could certainly use to make the experience more enjoyable.

The sad thing is that I even read the manual.

Go to the Key Bindings option in the settings menu (hit Escape to get to it).

There is a setting toward the bottom (if you have something like Cosmos installed however, it will be more in the middle) where you can bind a key to Flip Camera.

I use it often, and not for just checking out my bad self. smile Useful for checking your 6 if you are running along or fighting something in open terrain where something might be coming up behind you.
