I play Horde on Whisperwind, but have a few Alliance alts.  I'd like to experience some of the other classes and starting areas without reliving the low level cash crunch.  As such, I'd like to create a new character to be a mule for getting items/cash across the faction line.

Does a level 5 or under character have any chance of making it down to Gadgetzan?  Is there a warlock in Almost Heroes or otherwise that I could hire to summon me to Gadget?

You could do it if you were careful.  South in the barrens to get to thousand needled, then go south east there along the road.  Once you get to the shimmering flats, you just watch out for mobs and keep working SE until you see the pass through the mountains.  At that point you are home free, there's no mobs on the pass to Tanaris and Gadgetzan is right there at the end of the mountain pass.

I'm a lvl 16 NE Hunter. What's in Gagetzan? Anything worthwhile to see? I still haven't made it to Stormwind yet.

Gadgetzan has the big engineering trainer so you'll want to head down if your character is an engineer.   It also has the only means of transfer things between horde and alliance with the Gadgetzan auction house.  The fees are pretty high (20%), but it is the only way to transfer money/goods across lines.

I think the odds of a level 5 making it to Gadgetzan are somewhere between slim and none. Your aggro radius would be so big you'd be unable to run through Thousand Needles. Unless you wanted to spend time dragging your corpse. Ok, so you could do it, but it would take a long time.

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

If you have time to burn then you could always try to swim there.

Start a Night Elf, go to Auberdine, take the ship to go to Menethil Bay (sp?), take the ship to Theramore, start moving down the coast to the south for quite awhile, reach Steamweedle Port, hit the road heading east and you will reach Gadgetzan.

I think it is fairly safe if you hug the coastline.  You may die a time or two but you should avoid the majority bad things.  If you die between Steamweedle and Gadgetzan then you can just use the Spirit Healer since the graveyard is right next to your goal.

Well I had to give it a try and it works.  I started with a level 1 Night Elf Warrior and made it to Gadgetzan (ended up level 2 due to exploration points).    Getting to Theramore was a snap but I died about 4 times crossing the bay due to the crocs in the waters. Once I hit the coast line it was smooth sailing all the way to Steamweedle Port and to Gadgetzan.

Named my guy Explorer because it seemed appropriate.  I don't have any Horde characters on that particular server so I guess he will hang out till I delete him.

You know, this is a really good idea.  I parked a character in Org for my wife and I to send AH stuff to when we're out in the field, putting another in Gadgetzan would be very useful as well.

Getting through the Flats is would be extremely difficult, but with the right escort, it should be easier to pull off.

Did it myself at 5. Yeah, I died a bunch of times in Thousand Needles, but I did it.

Note - the trick of transfering money only works if you have a friend who can go with you. Remember - you can NOT buy your own products, even with a different character on the same account.

Blizzard thought of that trick. biggrin

Thanks Redjak!  I followed that route and it worked like a champ.  The crocs must still have been full from munching on you because I got lucky and swam through the bay with only one death.  I did have a hold up in Teldrassil because I had no idea how to get to the flight path.  Stupid elves... I find more and more reasons to hate them everyday.

I'm glad it worked for you.  Yeah, I think at least one I fed really well.  It was probably the same one again and again.    Initially I was going to try a land route around the water but that was a big mistake.   Raptors and spiders kill real fast at lvl 1.

I've never tried this and I've only heard of it as a rumor...but...
Couldn't you just die right off the bat somewhere in Kalimdor, run while dead to Gadgetzan, speak with the spirit healer in the cemetary right outside the city and just rez there (Do you really care about sickness and equipment damage at level 1 anyway?)

This used to work, but now when you spirit rez, you rez in the graveyard you initially started at no matter which spirit healer rezzed you.
