well, the timing seems right for them tone getting ready to announce the next expansion.

The cat may be out of the bag with the next World of Warcraft expansion, as a few eagle eyes spotted Blizzard applying a trademark for "Warlords of Draenor" today.

The trademark covers both computer game software and entertainment service categories, and the website www.warlordsofdraenor.com was registered during this past month.

Blizzcon starts in a week, I guess we'll hear more then.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the is the first time I've contemplated going back to WoW in many years.  This garrison stuff in particular sounds really interesting, as does the new "persistent" PvP zone.

I played the Draenor preview a couple of times this past weekend (Blizzcon  icon_lol) and I really liked it.  The new character models look fantastic and I love the stat squish.  Can't wait for it to come out though that could be up to a year at this point.

I'm guessing it will be next fall.  they seem to be spacing the expansions about 2 years apart.

It's live and I'm about to hit 92! Is anyone else playing?

Shadowmoon Valley is gorgeous and garrisons are really, really cool.

God help me....I just reinstalled.  I think I'm gonna dip my toes in the water and see what happens.  I've not played since 2005ish, so it should be.....interesting.

Ron, what made you decide to reinstall? The last xpac you played was what, Burning Crusade?

I just hit 100 this evening. Fantastic leveling content despite a few poorly designed and/or buggy quests. I can't wait to do it again with my alts.

I can't speak for Ron but I'm back playing for the first time since 2011.

For me I quit because of burnout and dissatisfaction with the idea of the Panda expansion.  Garrisons turned out to be the hook that drew me back in and the level 90 boost that allowed me to catch up to current content sealed the deal.

I can't believe I'm getting tempted to step back into WoW.  How is Draenor for solo play?

I did 90-100 solo, there were only a handful of occasions where I need help but there were other people leveling who jumped in and assisted on taking down a tough enemy.

Solo play is pretty strong. And while solo play has always been a strong suit of WoW, they defiantly upped the ante imho with the garrison. You have the ability to gather resources at your garrison without having to have that profession (and you can even disenchant stuff and make low end enchants without being an enchanter). That combined with the solo-friendly followers/missions dynamic are really good additions to soloing.
Another aspect of this expansion that seems really well done is the treasure hunting mechanic. Basically, scattered all throughout every zone, there are treasures to be found (and sometimes not easily as they no longer have the "sparkely" effect like stuff did in MoP). It seemed like every time I turned around there would be a small path or cave or something that would draw my attention and it would end up leading to a treasure, a rare mob/encounter, or even a follower. Definitely the best expansion in terms of exploration being fun and rewarding.
I heard about a mod called handynotes that basically reveals all this stuff to you on your minimap, but I am having so much fun discovering things on my own that I am hesitant to use it just yet, maybe on my 4th or 5th alt. smile

you can group up with people cross servers now.  You cannot trade items with them or do things like enchant gear etc. but you can form a group with friends that are not on your server.  You can run instances and raids that way as well.

I pretty much solo play all the time and my warlock is 100, rogue 97, pally tank 96 etc.

Garrisons add a bit of a change to the game as you can pick and choose core buildings to put up either for gear benefits or to help your trade skills.  There are certain buildings that everyone will get, fishery, mine, herb garden, and if you have a combat pet levels to 25 you can get the menagerie.  If you get into the Garrison I highly recommend you build the lumber mill as soon as you can; by harvesting wood you will generate resources that you will need for buildings and missions.
