Reminds me of those demo versions of the Apogee games you could download and only play the first level.

Yeah its pretty much a free trial.  You can hit level 20 pretty darn quick.  Free to play?  Not really.

I got into it with a week-long free trial.  I could have easily made 20 in that time.  It's marketing and spin with a bit of change to already existing mechanics.  I think it's a well-executed move on their part to join the FTP discussion that required little on their part to implement.  I applaud the effort, even if the execution leaves a bit to be desired in matching up with everyone else's FTP mechanics.

They've also upgraded everyone who owns just the base WoW game to Burning Crusade status.

F2P.  FTP is a pretty established acronym for something else.

Forgive my foe pa.  F2P.  I did not mean to demean the file transfer protocol.

I still wouldn't play even if they allowed level 60, unrestricted trading, no gold cap and the ability to blab in every channel for free. Such was the extent to which I was underwhelmed by it during the few months I played. Even the truly f2p WoW clone, Runes of Magic, at least gave you the depth of dual-classing.

As to this only be a free trial  - when you're the 800 lb gorilla of MMO's you don' have to share your den, just offering your chewed leaves is being damn generous.   icon_razz
