This is really how a game should be imo.  It is fun to play and I find myself enjoying the grind and generally not noticing it.  I'm playing to have fun and then occasionally I get new stuff.

now that's a proper way to put in grinding.

Saw Daehawk out there (was wondering why you were firing and then I noticed your nick!)  I think I literally ran into Harkonis earlier this afternoon accidentally ran into the back of his tank as we were going over the railroad tracks (ooops, sorry), although fortunately we weren't going fast enough to throw a track or anything.

[Edit] By firing, I don't mean firing at me, I mean just firing.  Kind of like a salute.  I've seen people randomly firing at the start before and wondered what they were doing.  I guess that must be it.  I guess you just have to be very careful where you barrel is pointing when you say hello.  It was nice getting a hello from Daehawk.

Maybe I should claim that's why I ran into Harkonis.  I was just saying hello, that's it.  It was not me having driving problems, no not at all.

Yeah I also had a Daehawk sighting in one of the recruits battles. Along with DOSHIGH (letotse).

I'm digging my AT-1 tank (tank destroyer), especially now that I've dedicated myself to being one of the few that stays back and provides security for our artillery. I'm starting to get a feel for the most likely avenues of attack. So I set myself up in an ambush position so I can get the first shot. Been getting a few more kills this way.

Those random hellos you're talking about, one of them just took out my Pzkw IV as I was maneuvering in the starting area as the match started.  Ouch.  Did a quick check to see if there was a Daehawk on the other team!

Does anyone have any tips on leading a moving tank? I seem to never get any hits on a tank that's moving, and I've waited until the dotted reticule shrinks to minimum size. Also, I don't seem to have any feedback on where the shell landed so that I can correct for it in the next shot. Really sucks cause I want to kill stuff at range with my tank destroyer.

Was this the Himmelsdorf map? That starting area is so tight it's not to hard to at least damage something.

I just right click on the target(auto aim) at long ranges. Seems to do a better job than me at long distance and is good for tracking moving targets, but at close range I tend to turn it off.

Saw my first Maus today, thankfully he was on my team.  We were down to 3 on 11, then 1 on 9.  We won with the Maus getting 11 kills and at 95% health, lol.  Each shell cost 1k credits and a full repair bill is 32k!!!!!!

I'm an old Artillery guy from my Canadian Army days........How well is the Arty part of the game being fleshed out? What guns are they representing?

Arty can really kick ass and hence piss people off since it can kill with indirect fire, but it is also extremely vulnerable to fast moving armor that will coming looking for you.  Having protection and staying hidden is key and is not always a given or an option.  There are 2 urban style maps that are tough since there are a lot of obstructed shots from buildings, a relatively small map with rarely a place to hide, especially the Himmelsdorf map.  The 5 other maps currently available are a bit more arty friendly.  All German SPG's use some variant of the 150mm while the Russians start at 76mm and can get up to 203mm(the only current factions available right now with the US to be added soon).  Can't go into much detail without violating the NDA, but the more powerful guns also have their drawbacks.  You can rack up as many kills, on pace with the heavy armor and TD's but you can also die a lot quicker so some matches are fun and others suck.  You are really dependent on teammates finding the enemy for you as not to expose your position, so sometimes you just find yourself sitting there hoping you're not spotted by the enemy first.  Maps are usually pretty quick, 5-8 minutes, so even a bad or unlucky team can quickly be forgotten.  Do not expect a hard core sim by any means but real world tactics help, especially if most of your teammates are on the same page.  The game is a blast now but should only get better as they add more maps and features.

With my little Russian SU-18 arty I racked up 8 kills in one game. The only other two people to get kills were 1 kill each. I then ran out of ammo and died.

Just got my first heavy tank..a soviet KV..and all I do it die...I can't turn or go forward or move my turret well at all...its all soooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow.

My ping is closer to 200, I'm thinking the servers are not in N. America since the developer is in Russia. You'll get better just playing and upgrading your armor and gear.  The guys that move 30m at a time like its some turn based game are annoying as hell though.

AIUI the Beta is explicitly the "European Beta" so I would say the servers not being in N. America is extremely likely.  In fact I'm a bit nervous for what this means about the game being released in the Autumn.  Are we going to be able to play with our European brethren or our we going to lose access, since we aren't on the right continent?  I've heard absolutely nothing about a North American release.

I'm a bit lost with this game.  There is no tutorial?  You just get thrown in with the big boys on your first match?  Seemed like every other tank was much better than my noob tank.  So do I have to grind through many humiliating losses before I can get a better tank?  To make matters worse, my own team was damaging me on purpose at the start of the battle.  They don't have any way to deal with TKs or griefers?

Click on the arrow right below 'Battle!'. Then you can select recruit or training battles.

Not sure if the training battles are worth messing with more than once, you don't gain anything from them. The recruit battles are still going to have better tanks/crews than you have at the beginning, but, won't be as overwhelming. Still sucks because the recruit battles are apparently the best way to farm money, so you get plenty of really experienced people in the matches.

You are going to get blown up a lot. Playing cautious, staying with team mates, hiding in bushes, around a rock, covering artillery, will help. Regardless you are not likely to do well for a number of battles.

Research better engine and tracks as quickly as you can (from the tech screen). A better radio helps as well, it allows you to get info from scouts/relay info much farther out. This is automatic.

F1 in battle pulls up the control list (why you can only do this in a fight is beyond me). You can't change any bindings right now.

Yes play RECRUIT games if you have a little tank. I still do that with my little SU-18 arty tank. there will be no heavy or medium in it at all. there will still be TDs though.

As for exp..don't worry too much. You'll get exp no matter what. Its like a team based thing. You get more exp for actually shooting stuff but you also get it for hitting close to them or spotting tanks first, just about anything will get you some exp. Also there are no kill steals. If some one does 99% damage to a tank and you destroy it then you get 1% and they get 99% of the exp.Also you get exp for damaging .an enemy who is capping your base and such. So help out. People appreciate it. Its better to have someone kill the tank you are fighting than let that tank damage you more. I have to pay about 10k per repair and 2.5k per ammo reload on my KV. But it's ok because I have like 400k.

So the best thing to do as a noob is hide near base in bushes unless they ask you to scout. If you want to scout as a light then upgrade your engine and treads to the best you can and be as fast as you can. Heck half the time as my heavy KV I still hide near base because it's not upgraded at all and it is slooooow. So I dit there and kill base cappers and protect the arty. Works well. Just remember the bushes A tank in the sights is worth 2 in the bush
