just when you thought World of Tanks was enough. However, I'm leaning towards April Fools Day joke (which would suck because the description sounds really cool) with this feature: — Real as life! For real hardcore simmers there will be a way to tune and fix your plane's engine with a «screwdriver». Now it is even more realistic than in a real life where there were technicians for that.

Bah. If it doesn't have guns on it, it doesn't count.
LOL, I wonder who will have the edge. sure, Wargaming.net did World of Tanks, but Gaijin did Birds/Wings of Prey.

f2P? sure, free to lose if you dont pony up some cash, just like most "f2P'.
I call the F2bF as in "free to be fodder"
That being said, WoT was and is a fairly fun and well made game, it just aint free if you want to compete.

I compete just fine without paying in WoT. It's one of the more balanced free to paid comparisons out there. Not as even as LoL though.

you compete fine, but its much easier if you pay, therefore without paying your are handicapping yourself.
Personally I dont like the whole F2P model, there is very lil free about them.

in WoT it's only slightly easier if you pay. In LoL it's not any easier at all, just takes less time to unlock what you want.
There are plenty of games that you have to pay to compete and they may as well have been subscription, but those two aren't them.

Agreed about WOT at least. never played the other. 25+ hours in WOT without spending a dime

Impressions from PAX East. And the games are meant as a trilogy, albeit in the sense of three sides of a single conflict. Much like WoT, World of Warplanes is meant to cover vehicles starting in the mid-'30s and running up until the Korean War, with the upper tier of technology branching into jets instead of more prop planes. Each game is meant to also cater to a different style of play as well; World of Warplanes is the most energetic of the three games, while World of Battleships (when finally released) will aim more toward the slow and strategic sort of play. WoB might be interesting if they ever get to it.

Now with press release: Pilots! The World of Warplanes Development Team is proud to announce reaching an important milestone in the life of our project. We have finally come to the Closed Beta Test stage. We have unleashed into the skies 59 warplanes of three different types. Steel birds from the release tech trees of all three nations – USSR, Germany, and USA – are now battling for Supremacy on 4 maps, spraying bullets, dropping bombs, and firing rockets into a variety of ground targets. We have implemented several game control modes to suite both experienced and novice pilots. And we have also created a tutorial scenario to help newcomers get to grips with their warplanes, teaching them the nuts and bolts of basic aviation. The game development is far from reaching its final stages. The most exciting times are ahead. We will be improving gameplay, introducing more warplanes, polishing the existing features, and adding new ones. And we hope to work with you, shoulder to shoulder, to create a truly great game. Join Closed Beta Test now and fill in the application form. If you have already sent your application for Global Alpha Test, it will still be valid for Closed Beta. Moreover, it will be eligible for priority processing. Let’s battle together. Get airborne! World of Warplanes Development Team Closed Beta Test Screenshots
