Maybe he is hinting that they are much further along than people think.

I'm going to try to ignore everything about this game until i can play the beta/early access.  I'm too excited for a 40k MMO to be waiting for it.

With that in mind, we're shooting for right now to have the game shipped by the end of Quarter 1 of 2013.
Poor Elmo.  crybaby

...

icon_lol  Well that takes it off my radar.  You wonder why they even bother hyping a game that won't be out for two years, probably longer with the inevitable delays.

Most major MMOs in the last 4 years have shipped 6-12-18 months Too Early, Half Baked, Disastrously and then furiously tried to fix things with chewing gum and baling wire while merging servers and/or shutting down the additional servers they frantically added at launch.

So, 2013 might be a good thing.  icon_smile

Just bought Horus Rising.  By 2013 I can read the whole series and probably write a couple too.   icon_razz

THQ has not cancelled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO. As part of the ongoing review of our business, we have made decisions to ensure that the company is strategically addressing the most attractive markets. As we have previously announced, we have dramatically reduced our commitment to the kids' boxed games sector which leads to a significantly more focused release schedule moving forward. Our slate for calendar 2012 and beyond is focused on high-quality core games and continues to build our digital platform and business. We are excited for our pipeline of original and high-quality content along with our relationships with some of the best talent in the industry.

Not an MMO any longer.  SP game with MP elements.

Once again, Blackjack the former business editor translates corporate speak into English:
Quote
However, based on changing market dynamics
Translation: "HOLY SHIT! MMOs aren't a license to print free money anymore! And what's with all this free-to-play crap?"

Quote
and the additional investment required to complete the game as an MMO
Translation: "HOLY SHIT! MMOs are EXPENSIVE!"

Quote
we believe the right direction for us is to shift the title from an MMO to a premium experience
Translation: "Because HOLY SHIT, MMOs are EXPENSIVE and you sure as hell weren't going to get a 'premium' MMO from THQ, we're not THAT crazy!"

Quote
with single and multiplayer gameplay, robust digital content and community features
Translation: "Look at all that DLC crap everyone's doing today! The players all bitch about it and then they buy it all anyway! We're gonna shove so much Warhammer DLC down their throats, they're gonna choke on it, along with their credit cards!"

======================
Given that THQ is going to hell in a handbasket financially, and they abandoned two promising franchises (Titan Quest and Company of Heroes) that maybe would've turned around financially with a bit more patience, you'll pardon my skepticism of their perhaps arrogant press release posturing.  disgust  Roll Eyes

Thank you for the translations Blackjack icon_smile

Most companies thinking about entering the mmorpg space are delusional if they think they can setup a sustainable monthly pricing model that will draw enough players to cover their development costs and be profitable over time.  There are too many alternatives for gamers, especially during a recession.

While I think a 40k mmo would be cool, I'm kind of glad that their focus will be SP with some MP.  Hopefully the game will be better for it.
