Wow...they listed the game on Steam after they were told they were violating trademark laws with their name.

They still have a pretty significant number of concurrent players on Steam considering the game isn't even for sale now.

We are sorry to report that we have discovered that hackers gained access to our forum and game databases and the player data in those databases. We have launched a thorough investigation covering our entire system to determine the scope of the intrusion. This investigation is ongoing and is our top priority. As part of the remediation and security enhancement process we will be taking the game and forums down temporarily.

We are issuing this Security Alert to all Survivors as a precaution so you can take some precautionary measures on your own. We have already taken a number of steps to increase security and are continuing to work with external advisors and investigators to identify and implement measures to minimize the chance of this happening in the future.

The data accessed included email addresses used to log-in to the forum, forum passwords which we encrypt, email addresses used to log-in to the game, encrypted game passwords as well as in-game character names and the IP addresses from which players log-in to the forum and to the game. If you posted other information to the forum it is likely that such data was accessed as well. We do not collect the names or addresses of our gamers so that information was not impacted unless you posted it on the forum. We are investigating whether additional information may have been obtained.

No Payment information Exposed.

All payments are made through a third party and not through our system. Therefore there was absolutely no exposure of your payment or billing information of any kind.

That, or he sold the information to criminals and is using the hacked excuse. Wouldn't put it past this guy.

Effective today, The War Z has changed its name to Infestation: Survivor Stories. This change has come about primarily as a result of some confusion and trademark issues with a similarly titled property. While we were reluctant to rename the game so long after launch, especially with nearly 1 million registered players, it was ultimately decided to be in the best interest of our existing community as well as future players in order to eliminate confusion. Please rest assured that this will in NO WAY affect you as players. The only difference you will see is the change in logo and website. There will be no interruption of service or change in content.

Well...what they said above isn't all the truth, IMHO:

1) Trademark - yeah, I can totally see this being problem - like it was when it was first announced.
2) Metacritic score.

When your game has a Metacritic score of 20 out of 100 and a 1.5 out of 10 User Score (with 3200 people giving a score), some might think that a name change is in order...just to try to get some more sales.

But as the saying goes, make of it what you will.

Haha, I have this game, and played it briefly early one. What a waste of resources.

I foresee them getting sued in their future.

I'm not sure how they don't expect some kind of legal annoyance with that name.

For real. They should change it to something safer like: George Romero's DayZ, or M. Brookes presents Night of the Living Dead.

Would it be inappropriate of me to rub this in TCwiedner's face?
