A major MMO was just released to a horde of WoW-sick MMO fans.

Are you surprised?

There have been plenty of other (in theory) major mmo releases.

pretty much they all got 1 thread of people talking about it, maybe 2 and were done.  I just figured a smart little jab about it would go over better than: "Someday I'll see a mythos or Warhammer online post in here"

That and I'm lazy and hate reading, so I cant figure out if the game is any good, lol.

The fact that there are so many threads about it should tell you all you need to know about whether the game is good or not.

1. The game is one of the best in the genre to come along in awhile.
2. most of the threads are about different aspects and prevent folks from digging through 1 30 page long thread.
3. A quick search on EQ 2 revealed over 30 threads, I'm afraid to search for WOW.  Hell Mythos has 7
4. What's preventing you from starting threads about the other 2 games you mentioned?
5. just go buy it already if you like the genre it's got boobs!

Can the moderators not create a sub folder within the MMM and dump all AoC related topics in there?

It would organize the place a bit since we nearly filled the entire first page with AoC topics, short of the two really REALLY outdated stickies.

It is actually quite easy to do so, but what does the root of the folder do at that point?  General MMO stuff?  That'd be a pretty shallow pond.

I'm sure this happened here with every big MMO/pseudo MMO launch (including LOTORO, WoW, EQ2, yes even Tabula Rasa, Hellgate: London and Vanguard  icon_razz). It'll pass eventually though I don't think the rabid interest will abruptly die as it did for TR and Hellgate.

And you can't really even judge by it in the long term. It's apparent tons of people here happily still play WoW even if there aren't 25 active threads on it.

This subforum would be pretty dead without talk of AoC.  I don't see any reason not to go hog wild talking about a highly anticipated game, especially if most people are enjoying it.

I'm also in the "let's not fuss" camp over this.

Not that I don't understand the principle, but in this case I fail to see the big deal. It's not like a major MMO is released THAT often.

In any event, it's all up to Funcom and what they'll do in the next month or so, and I wouldn't be surprised if talk about AoC turns out to be pretty limited in the near future, unless they manage to keep their promises for a change.

That's one of the reasons I alwasy recommend moving to a guild website once a MMORPG starts, so these main boards don't get overly cluttered, and/or you don't lose stuff buried 8 pages into a single thread.  Just for reference, the Wanderers AoC board already has 117 topics  icon_lol

well, I was under the impression that we could post topics about anything we want , so, of course I post AoC topics, since, well, this IS a MMO forum, and, there's a lot of GT's members that play the game...

let me know if I'm wrong in this, and I'll go somewhere else

As long as it's about MMOs, you can post about it here. We see 'complaint' posts like these every time a really big release comes around. Anybody here remember Oblivion when it launched? biggrin

That, and I do think the original poster was joking. Lost in translation when posting to the web and such as the saying goes.

I think that from next weeks updates (there are two each week for now) I'll be consolidating the "Patch notes" threads instead of making one each week.

While I know it was made in (more or less) jest/irony, there's some truth to the fact that I post a LOT about AoC on these forums, and I'll try to keep it more tight, so that other topics wont be lost - hope that works for everyone  icon_smile

AoC sucks!!!  icon_twisted

hehe, nah, just kidding - I actually liked it, just giving it some time to mature, and see how it develops...and meanwhile, I'll continue to post things about my current favorite MMO..

Prediction: In 4 months, I'll be posting like crazy about Warhammer, saying how great it is, having bought it day one....then, after a month, I'll give up in disgust, and start playing AoC, telling everyone how it matured and how the developers really care ;-)
