**Edited to add:  Another update on December 9th.  Ifit's like last years we should get a great holiday celebration full of fireworks and other goodies.  Also, update patch notes includes most likely changing NM drops so that they are non-transferable.  This would eliminate a LOT of "camping", thus making it harder for gil sellers, a big problem in FFXI.  A whole slew of other new stuff is included as well, such as new quests, items, new ability for Thief, and so forth**

All this talk about which is better - WoW or EQII - and such is missing a BIG point!  Final Fantasy XI has been out for a little more than a year and has a lot of ideas/concepts from both!  We have an auction house too.  We can solo as well (Beastmaster job).  We sport pretty graphics.

Okay maybe this is just an obvious attempt to stop all of the MMO players from thinking of just WoW or EQII.  But if you do play (which I highly doubt many people don't anymore   ) post your character name - world name - jobs.  Mine's in the sig.  Plus in this MMORPG forum I thought it wouldn't do any harm to have a FFXI thread anyways.

it was fun, but if you ever let your account lapse they delete all your stuff and make you buy a new retail copy to start all over again.  This would be why I dont play and won't be playing the next Square MMO either.

We considered FF for the Wanderers MMO experiment but EQ2 is just so much more casual friendly.  I never played it but I heard FF can get super grindy.  Hopefully 14 will be good.

Sure, if you like near-enforced grouping and FOTM party compositions that you must adhere to in order to get into said groups.

For me it was one of the most disappointing MMO's ever.

I had skipped one month due to bills, then when I tried to continue my sub they explained that it wasn't possible.  Definitely a disappointment.  I MIGHT have rebought the game to continue if my characters would be accessible, but was told they were deleted when the account lapsed.  I had about 8 months played when it all happened.

That is a tremendous pile of BS on Squares part. It basically means that only the hardcore will continue to play their game, thereby eliminating the casual gamer. Stupid business decision.

It's a shame because the game itself was a lot of fun, but in an MMO you don't put months of playtime into a game with the chance that it's all gone when you take a break.  I can't think of any other company that deletes your characters, ever.  well, short of when they shut the servers down for the last time.

The game isn't for the casual gamer anyway, with their absolutely required grouping mechanics and absolutely retarded (and done NOWHERE ELSE IN THE INDUSTRY) decision to nuke your characters and your account almost immediately after you stop playing.

Seriously. Nobody does the deleting character thing. Period. You know why? CUSTOMERS WON'T RETURN.

Actually, yes. I tried it the first year, the second year, and the fourth year. It got progressively worse over time for an entry-level player.

Commemorating a decade of Final Fantasy XI, Vanafest 2012 revealed a new expansion for the MMO. Seekers of Adoulin will promise new lands, new tales, new jobs—including the "Geomancer," confirmed on the expansion's official site.

Check out its official trailer above. It's mostly text, though the background of the "new tales" clip might give you an idea of what's to come. That's followed by some work-in-progress in-world renders providing a look at what's to come. The expansion is coming in 2013 for PC and Xbox 360.

Just a few months after i left they had this 6 months welcome back thing,where you could reactivate your characters up to 6 months after you left,not sure if that is still happening..but yeah the 1 month thing is shitty,especially how much work you put into your characters

well i played for nearly 3 years(i was on PC at first),game cost £30 on PC and £40 on 360,monthly cost was £10(£8 or 9 quid and then an extra quid for an extra character)..so they got some £430 just off me
