Finally got a propellant gun I could use, had to get from Military Surplus (even there, most of even the generic models are for Level 32 and up, not 30). Can't really catch a good screenshot of it (the moment you fire it the camera automatically rotates "behind the back").

It's fun, but it really does devour the canisters quickly. And in some cases all the flamethrower stuff (there are EMP and other variations, but flamethrower probably has the coolest effects) seems to run up the lag a bit.

I had some really fun times with a couple players I teamed with the other night. For a change folks on my friends list actually remembered me. smile So that was neat and we teamed up in 3- and 2-person teams on a couple instances.

Pic from our team:

Lady on right is an Exobiologist and her clone (far right). At her level (32), the Injector Guns are quite devastating and I felt almost jealous of how quickly she was taking things down (compared to my wearing out my fingers keeping my various chain guns firing).

A couple of us worked out getting the necessary Vortex logos to get our "signature" ability (Concussive Wave). Concussive is just plain spectacular (great to save for emergency use), but it uses up 100% of your adrenalin and you may need 1 or 2 adrenaline hypos just to get sufficient adrenaline to use it. Also, the Signature ability is available right away once you have the necessary logos -- it's not something you put points into, it just becomes available period.

Not to make you look like a noob or anything blackjack, but that is an overload attack.  If you do extreme damage to an enemy you will see a red skull above thier head.  Run up to them and hit 'F' to kick them to oblivion and you get double xp.

I always wondered "What's the point of the red skulls"?  icon_confused Thanks. I didn't see any mention of that in the manual. Guess I didn't get the TPS report on this one. smile

My system's 3 years old (AMD64 3200+, 2GB RAM, ATI1650 card) and I can't run much that's new these days. I don't know how to judge my settings, because I've got some things adjusted in my video drivers. As far as my in game settings, I leave off the various lighting effects and turn down shadows to keep my frame rate OK. Textures on high though, and I leave the visibillity distance slider pretty high up.

Generally it's quite playable (1024X768 rez), esp. compared to stuff like Bioshock, MOH: Airborne and Gears of War PC all of which pretty much left my system begging for mercy. But an all-out control point defense with hundreds of bane on screen generally brings things to a near standstill (though I don't know if that's a form of lag or my system -- everyone seems to have some problems in those situations from what I see in chat).

**Oh I was going to add -- if you're asking from the standpoint of "meh, I thought the game would look better than that," then by all means I do have my video driver settings tuned down for frame rate's sake. I have no doubt it would look better on a current, hot rod system. smile

If you're asking from the standpoint of "wow, it looks great, but I doubt I have the horsepower to run it like that," then I would say the system requirements are far more modest compared to most new PC shooter releases or stuff like Company of Heroes. Still, if you have an older system like me, you'd likely want to adjust things in the game and also in your video drivers (most video drivers have a lot more precise options for antialiasing, anistropic filtering etc. whereas a lot of games just let you turn those kinds of things "on" and "off"). I don't have to turn everything off, but I do have to keep certain settings down to something mild.

Here's a couple to file under "Control Point Base Defense Can Get Messy."  drillsergeant This particular one is in the Pools zone and it's under siege almost constantly. I had some fun yesterday where they kept driving us into the base and back to a cave in the back of the base, and a few of us huddled in there and waited until we could form our rebellion.  icon_twisted I'm the jolly green guy at center, see if you can pick me out.

See me post in the other thread about the PAU details from a November article:
http://www.gamingtrend.com/forums/index.php/topic,20737.msg354084.html#msg354084
The PAUs will apparently be smaller (but larger than players alone, you'll get inside one to drive/pilot it). They indicate in interviews some will be mech-like, some more vehicular like, and others more of a biological/organic looking type thing.

The Grendel variant sounds like it will be most like the AI-controlled AFS ones in terms of firepower. Although the AI mechs are impressive, they don't really have an anti-EMP weapon afik (they have machine guns, and some missile launchers on their shoulders, and a little jet burst from their back that sometimes helps them traverse some distances).

In the game, the AI mechs generally guard control point bases, regular bases and sometimes isolated waypoints. They also often get air dropped in if the game detects a Control Point base defense is going poorly, or sometimes to reinforce one after an assault was repeled. Of course, that didn't happen last night when this CP in Pools had about 5 Bane dropships roll in and drop squads right on top of me. I think I know how they felt at The Alamo.  paranoid

When you solo-around this TR world do you feel like you're exploring a living World?
Do you meet interesting NPC's on your questing travels...

Is the word on the street positive for this game? Do the people playing think it has a chance at some longevity?
Are most just using it as a place-holder till 1 of the 2 500LB Gorrila's hit the market?(Warhammer, Conan)

I enjoy the heck out of it, there are tons of quests (for the most part, you never run out of things to do -- in fact, some times the mission/quest tracker will leave you begging for mercy).

While I don't consider it quite as innovative as the self-inflating Richard Garriott says, it really doesn't play like the various mmorpgs where you can just sort of tap an auto attack button and eat your HotpocketTM as you lazily watch the screen. smile I have enjoyed some of that (LOTORO in particular), but I prefer something a little more invigorating in combat like this or City of Heroes.

I'm not big on PVP (there is PVP in this but not really on a big scale until higher levels and it's something they acknowledge needs work), and as that's Warhammer's main focus, it doesn't interest me. Conan I was hyped up about it, but I'm taking a wait and see now. It wouldn't surprise me if both games get pushed further and further back. Besides, Conan doesn't even let you play online until Level 20 (ostensibly to train you to understand the game's differences and how to play it).

As far as living, breathing world goes, yes to a point. I think just the fact Control Points can (and often are) be lost to massive AI Bane invasions on a regular basis (rendering the NPC contacts in said CP bases unusable) is a nice sign of a living, changing world. Some missions calling in Bane attacks inside a base (I think newer players are shocked when they first encounter this  Tongue) are refreshing.

The fact that various non-Bane creatures will attack each other (or the Bane) gives an interesting world feel.

The occasional "morale choice" missions (I wish there were more, I love the feeling that my decision will affect what further missions or rewards I get for a bit) are nice and give some feeling that you're impacting on the world.

I think it has a good future, but I don't think it's by any means a WoW killer (even though I run regularly into WoW refugees in the game). I don't think it's an Auto Assault style flop though. I think it has excellent word of mouth and if they can just follow through on PAUs (L40), command control (L50) and sprinkle in enough interesting 35-50 content for power players to stay happy, then it should have a nice future. I'd like to think the fact Garriott's involved means there's no way NCSoft would prematurely yank its plug, but you never know when a breeze will blow Garriott's interest in another direction.  paranoid

Thanks. Yeah Lord British has his name in the fore-front again with this game you'd think he'd do all he can to make it work.

I think I'm gonna get it this week then. Anyword if Vista 32 bit OS has problems with it? I plan on doing a dual boot set up with XP...Still not sure how to do this but I'm sure I can google it.

I've put so many hours into WoW. Been on-board since the servers went live. I haven't played another MMO since.(beta excluded)

I just find WoW so stale and bland these days. Updates take way too long, Battle-Grounds are a joke, etc etc.
I love having a MMO to go play throughout my day over long periods of time. From your updates and comments I think TR might just do it, at least unitl Warhammer makes it live.

I'll hop on when I have it installed on my new rig coming...should be here soon...NCIX keep telling me how back-logged they are.

I'm working on a specialist (level 9), but here's how Jude looks for now:

I like the pants that make it look like he's wearing skulls for knees. Reminds me of a costume option in City of Villains.

Had a pretty funny "spider bug" tonight, some sort of lag hiccup where the dead spider basically posed, so I could be like a fisherman with his trophy.  icon_biggrin

Had a good duo with Jaine, a L32-33 Spy tonight. We finished the Ustor Yard instance in Plateau. It gets you to an otherwise unreachable waypoint in Plateau and from there can do the Maligo Base instance. Alas, Maligo seems buggy (I died while working on a sub quest in there, and it "locked" my progress on the two types of items i was gathering; even abandoning and retaking it didn't help). I petitioned but didn't have the patience to stick around. Alas, we reached the end, and ran into a timed mission that didn't have the decency to have a warning timer - and we couldn't retake it. With the problem being, that's the penultimate instance quest, so we got no credit for all that.  disgust
Fun, but there are at least a couple 30s Instances that need some bug fixing like that (in Retread Caves, you can't get credit for killing Moxes, even though the quests depend on your hunting those  saywhat)

Anyway, couple shots:

The term spy makes it sound like some sort of Splinter Cell but it's not. If you've got a dumb Grenadier along you can sneak up behind targets and generally whack them in one swing (swords, axes etc.). It's a bit like the Ninja stuff that City of Villains introduced to CoX. I could see it being really annoying in PVP.

Behold the mighty doohickey! (looking suspiciously like a bunch of floating hubcaps  icon_lol)

I'm trying to push my specialist Injector towards the 15 mark (hit 13 tonight). I find it frustrating to play at times (I'm so used to a Soldier's firepower), but it's in some ways a refreshingly different experience. And the ability to repair your armor/heal yourself in an emergency on the fly is very much a lifesaver. And it's fun to just run around healing/repairing other players on the fly. smile Couple pics:

So far I'm having little luck (even in the Surplus/auction house) finding Leech Guns worth using. I actually find myself using a plain old pistol a lot, and perhaps I'll just make that her trademark.  ninja2

Thanks. smile I forgot this one, Reactor Core...

I was looking down the road at the Medic tree. While the manual sort of dismisses it as "least soloable," they seem to have revamped the skills quite a bit (names/effects seem different than in the collector's manual):

Recuscitate, once a Level 30 Medic skill, was moved back (I think) to about Pump Level 3 of a skill in the Biotechnician set (so you can probably learn to rez one player at around level 18 or so). Pump Level 5 of that lets you rez your entire squad (with reduced rez trauma sickness effects) in a limited area simultaneously. I can see that making Biotechnicians very popular on certain instances and hard-to-reach areas.  icon_cool

Finally made the leap to Biotechnician tonight and my first Injector Gun (15):

I'm sticking with Motor Assist armor for the most part but one quest rewarded really thick Bio Body Armor (which will be a lot more useful once the 1.4 patch ups everyone's Health amounts and adjusts attributes), and it looks pretty cool.

Injector's cool to use, even if it's not all that showy aside from a "pump" sound effect. Some Bane seem immune to it though (at least the initial Virulent versions of Injectors). It's just cool to be able to damage (have a chance to) their health directly and not worry about stripping off the armor power meter first. Combined with the decay skill you can drop some Bane pleasantly fast.

This was a big meeting of some clan in the main base in Divide. In the long run, I guess I do hope to join some big active clan at some point. It's just, sometimes when I've joined really large ones, nobody actually plays together. It's just a bunch of people yakking in the clan chat channel. This group seemed to do a regular weekly meeting and such, and seemed to have a good mix of different level characters. smile

I had another "duh" realization. Some Logos are behind transparent locked entrance doors. Step back from the entrance, and consider jotting the symbols on the entrance border or just comparing them with your Logos tab, to help you check if you have them all (or of course atlaslogos.com can guide ya smile):

Amoeba slime. Ugh. I hate them (they look cool - they just can overwhelm you). I hate fighting them no matter what class I'm playing. Sometimes I just ignore them and go after targets, but you end up with this...

And I got one to smile for the camera up close once.  eek

Unrelated, but another neat Creature Closeup (due to a lag burp i think):

I finish the day with Colorful Costumes Corner. smile

From me Devil's Den team earlier today.

I know I'm playing too much cause I can tell what class folks are by their helmet smile (although you can certainly tell easily enough by if they use chainguns/launchers etc.).

I really do love the Injector guns btw. They're very modest in ammo consumption (I never have the credit problems I did with my Commando/Grenadier) and eventually do tremendous damage per hit. I have to be creative in dealing with large groups (I didn't pour 5 pts. into shotgun like the masses smile), but I can make short work of most nasties as long as I adjust to the various immunities on the fly.

I enjoyed chainguns til 30-31 (on post-launch game -- in beta ammo seemed too scarce and expensive for everything), and then the ammo costs became a problem (or maybe I just didn't have a good enough chaingun). They're still the best gun-weapon against Striders, Predators, Turrets and all sorts of mechanical nastiness. My Torcastra Prison trio over the weekend seemingly had no EMP chainguns and turret cannons gave us heck until one guy realized he had an EMP pulse/chaingun.

My Biotech has had to be more creative with those things so far if soloing. He can't just sit in one place and bop away with his pistol/rifle EMP stuff. I can use EMP detonators and the like, but so far I'm having to do quite a bit of running and micromanaging to get those things down -- that's when I miss chainguns. smile

Hadn't shared any movies in a while. Here's a glimpse from an Instance...

Another Creature Closeup (I believe this is a Lightbender Sniper):

Around level 22 finally got some armor that looked like something I'd keep if I could, style wise smile

I also belatedly figured out the collector's edition yellow can be adjusted to look sort of gold. Better injector guns started falling like confetti around that level (including Incendiary, Ice and higher damage models all around).

I feel as though I play this game due to your pic postings and videos. Due to RL stuff I am not actually playing. I want to thank you for your continued postings. I enjoy this thread greatly.

Thanks much. smile A bud at another message board suggested I do a blog about TR, but every blog I've tried has no audience (marketing is not my strong point, at least not since my late 1990s fan site days). What's the point of stringing some screenies and videos about the game together if there's no audience?  icon_confused Here at least I know we have a decent size, mostly receptive audience and it makes it more fun to share those things.

I hope others will still share stuff now and then. I didn't mean to monopolize this thread -- I just try to post some fresh stuff now and then. I kinda wish we could embed videos here, but I'm sure there's a security or bandwidth reason not to enable that, so that's cool. I'm OK with using Putfile, but their Flash conversion process blurs my videos more than I would like.

I know the patch is bringing the ability to disable your helmet visuals (so you can share one's flying golden locks  icon_lol) so you can run around bare-headed. I almost wish they'd let you "lock in" an armor look that you like. You upgrade armor so often in the game, it's next to impossible to keep the same fixed look (as you would in City of Heroes).

Here's another Creature Closeup, the Bane Technician (he repairs Bane via a funky group radiation-looking skill, and can drop turrets, I think):
