Thought just one separate thread strictly for screenshots only would be OK. And can carry it over from open beta to past launch.

Vroom...

Spacedock's view of our humble little rock (U.S.S. Gaming Trend is the tiny ship with the red contrail)

For my first "acquired" officer, went with a Klingon tactical officer. Each has their own abilities on the ship and in away teams.

I was skeptical how phasers-focused combat could have any variety, but there appears to be some variance

Ground combat felt a hair more interesting once I called in Reinforcements.

I tried doing a little slideshow at Photobucket. They had a Hulk slideshow theme that's hysterical (he shakes the screen each time the shot moves to the next one), and a TV one that shows the images on an old TV (very appropriate for ST), but I thought this little sparkles theme better shows off the images.

STO open beta screenshots slideshow (link will take you to Photobucket to view it)

Fresh wave of screenies from a 3-ship team this morning... (finally got my first "loot", including a slightly better impulse engine)

I hope someone else chips in with shots here eventually. It's not meant to be Blackjack's screenshots thread, it's for everybody.  icon_smile

Although I use FRAPS, you may prefer to use the in-game screenshot hotkey (PRINT SCREEN by default). I believe Alt/F12 will remove the HUD. They indicate the screenshot utility auto-removes the HUD, although some said when they pasted the resulting screenshot into say, a Paint program, the HUD was there.

Supposedly you'll find the screenshots in:

By default hitting the PrtScrn button will remove the UI and save the image in the screenshot folder. If you want the UI, you need to change a keybinding or use a / command to get the UI to show up.

And to change things up a bit, here's some of mine (shrunk down to 75% of original so I don't break the forum):

---
My cast and crew before closed beta ended.

---
Random shot of my n00b ship.

---
My Escort/Akira (I think) class ship I got just before closed beta ended.

---
Same ship, but with a Galaxy class ship behind me (or is that Excelsior...I dunno), and DS9 in the background. Yes, I'm right next to said ship - it's just slightly bigger than me, no?

Here's a few gameplay movies. Click the Thumbnails to view 'em at my Photobucket album:

Ground combat in a space ship (fwiw, I think the weapons and support device visuals and sound effects are terrific; if they can get the movement/animations up to par, somehow, they might have something)

Close Quarters Space Combat

Here's some "ship p0rn"...  icon_cool

Finally had enough credits to customize to a different ship "template" at least (this view's from the customizing bay):

Scanning...

Kablooie of enemy vessel (if you took damage from explosions and debris, that might be interesting, but I can imagine the amount of griefing - unintended, or on purpose - that would happen)

Escort mission (since asteroid debris can't damage you or the freighter, there's an element of danger missing, imho)

The "avatar as ship," and the "ship as avatar" bugs are still present (it just takes a few seconds sometimes for the game to "catch up" and give you the proper visual). Looks like one of those Roomba robotic vacuums, huh?  icon_smile

I did some 5-player ground combat last night. There's a sort of "away party config screen" but it boils down to which player clicks fastest, as far as who gets to bring a crew member and who doesn't. I kind of enjoy it in a klutzy-animated, enemies wandering every which way, kind of way.

Everyone else had these big honking guns. I'm still stuck with that rifle you get in tutorial, though it's surprisingly effective. And I drop mines as fast as the cooldown lets me.

My mines were tremendous. It's just sometimes I'd lay them down, and the enemies rushed past me before they triggered; other times I'd lay them down as a "trap," and they wouldn't come over. Well of course you'd expect them to see me drop silver mine things on the floor and stay away.  icon_razz I guess it does seem a little silly I can rush right up to a crowd and drop the mines. I maybe have a turret deployment skill now too (60-second basic phaser turret).

The best set of guns I've used (found in CB) were dual disruptor pistols MkII. I think you can get them now using the "crafting" system.

Cool. If I can ever figure out how to afford those, I'll watch for them. Honestly, I'm sort of stumped on how to build up the resources used to buy weapons. I do sell loot, scan for anomalies etc. I just have a lot to learn on the shopping side of things. It's like I'm building up resources that aren't used to pay for anything I really want right now.  icon_confused

Have I mentioned how the inscrutability of STO's credits/energy/sort of money system reminds me of Auto Assault's baffling crafting system? (i.e., too many currencies, too many components, too many baffling-named doodads w/o easy explanations). Between that and both games having blockily animated "avatar gameplay sections," I wonder if someone from the Auto Assault team got a job on STO. icon_razz

And this is coming from someone who still likes STO enough to consider a pre-order...

I think you mostly get it from loot drops.  When you beat a ship in Space or someone on the Ground, sometimes they leave a glowing yellow orb.  If you go near it, you can pick it up and get the items in it.  You can then take them to a vendor or dump them using your inventory's "Replicator" button (bottom of the Inventory window) if you aren't near a vendor.

I pointed out in another forum the replicator and "hailing starfleet" to communicate about new missions (rather than visiting the stardock hub and trying to track down vendors and npcs) are a good way to stay in one's spaceship and avoid the wobbly avatar/confusing stardock syndrome.  icon_smile

I don't know why they don't just mark everyone on the map at spacedock (think about how every single vendor/contact/NPC of note is marked with an icon and label in LOTRO's main map), and give you some toggles to switch the labels on/off. They vaguely mark a few key contacts (a little white square with some tooltip text) but the many of us wandering around hollering "Where is so and so" could use a little map guidance. I wanna believe that'll all become second nature, but who knows?

You get energy credits by selling item drops (i.e. the guns & cannons & torps, etc... that you don't use).  You get resources by scanning anomalies in space or on stations. There is a vendor in Starbase One you can trade your resources in for rare gear (green items & hard to find items).  These will still drop - this is just another way to get them.  Resource drops need to be adjusted I think, I've read people are not getting the resources you need to buy the lower level items at the appropriate level for them to be usefull (too much randomness in the drop rate I think).

The old shield I sold was worth a lot of energy credits I guess (195 or something). Yes, we need more screenshots.  icon_smile I think I've gotten carried away enough with new STO threads, so any conversation is good conversation.  icon_cool

I'll try to post some of the vendor screen and inventory HUD shots so people not in OB can see what we're chatting about.

Back to screenshots. I know the game isn't the "go anywhere any time" that many want (I definitely realized that when I flew up against an "invisible wall" at the edge of an instance tonight). But some of the sights still take my breath away.  icon_cool

Wargus and I had did quite a few fun missions, and you can see his ship here, just a bit...

We did get to beam down to that planet for the mish. Turned out to be non-combat, just wandering around on a dust planet looking for some sensors to interact with. At least, I got to see my new phaser turret (thanks to Wargus giving me a ship cannon I could sell for a good amount of credits).

Some battle pics from our duo...

I'll post a couple fun movies in the morning. I'm getting a faucet replaced in the morning and GAAAA it's already 3:15 a.m.... wasted

Space combat gets more interesting with the enemies tossing waves of mines at you, and these power syphone doodads that I guess try to strip away your shield power.

IS there a big differen in the 3 starting ships? Centaur, Miranda, and something? Or is there 3 so theres a science a fighter and a whatever type? Or it just looks?

And I have to install a faucet myself soon. The cold weather froze one and broke it somehow. It barely works. I also think I've found a cheap way to run some hot water to my kitchen.

Bu thats not STO smile

The starter ship is considered a Cruiser as far as the classes go. The three 'looks' of it (Centuar, Miranda, etc) have no differences whatsoever. And for that matter, all of the class based ships (Science, Escort, Cruiser) will have three 'looks' as well (at least early on), allowing you to mix and match parts as they mean nothing as far as how well your ship works.

So in short - take your ship and put whatever you want on it as far as the nacells, struts, bridge, etc goes. It means nothing but how it looks.

Also, not sure many people realize - you get a free ship overhaul with the starter so you can change its looks to your hearts desire (at least within its type). I think you get this whenever you get a new ship.

Had a lot of fun in 3 and 4 player open teams this morning.

Here's a brief movie of us beating up on a biggie. I have a bad habit of veering into "post ship warp core explosions." There's the initial ship blast, but seconds after there's a major KABOOM that I assume is the reactor or something. SOme teammates were actually trying to be "suicide starships" and using their "death explosion" to try to reduce their HP. I don't endorse it, esp. on the maps that don't have a lot of fresh respawn points as you go.

Click to Watch Movie over at Photobucket.

We eventually found it behooved us, if we were dying a lot, to wait until we could all "dive in" as a group. Otherwise you get this ridiculous sequence of dying, and then by the next person dies, respawns and reaches the battle, you're already dead again.

A little bit of strategy in trying to focus on single big targets, or aggreeing to take smaller ships down before going after the big fish.

My plumber did finally get here and that's at least out of the way.  icon_smile

A bud at another forum shared a link to his German friend's Picasa album of STO screenshots, so have a peek:
http://picasaweb.google.de/Longascimages/StarTrekOnlineBeta#5428167014108290386

He shared something fun about it, but I seriously consider it a spoiler. I wish I hadn't read it. It's probably the thing Destructor decided he didn't want to tell me about just yet (and he was wise, I think). So I'll let you decide if you'd rather be spoiled!  paranoid
Spoiler for Hiden:
He said, "Friend of mine has been doing retro missions (I think they use the portal from The City on the Edge of Forever to travel back in time) and he's been attempting a mission to take on The Doomsday Device." I guess that in a tiny way addresses my questions about "don't we get to do anything famous from the shows or movies?"

I wish I had a better idea of what the bridges looked like.  I can't tell at all how different they are from the design store.  They basically all look the same to me in the mini-screenshots except for the lighting.

Anyway, you're bridge definitely looks great!

Huge bridge but a 27" crt viewscreen?? Well not really but it sure is small. They should have it take up the entire front wall.

I think that screen is typical of the screens on tactical bridges in the shows.  That said, it looks tiny because of the cavern they've made the bridge into. And that is the best looking bridge I think.

One of the few times my attempts at strategic ground combat worked was on a Gorn mission...

I used a gully to position two guys well back from either end of the pathway.

I dropped some mines on the path and backed waaaay up and then fired one shot to get 'em going. The result was flanking damage paradise.  icon_smile I used the sniper rifle to pick off gorn that stampeded towards my duos.  icon_cool

Heh, that's just funny, and hearing what happens when you're on ground, they could make an episode like on DS9's One Little Ship, where you infiltrate something like a Klingon ship that way lol. Doesn't sound like the space physics carry out indoors though, but imagine if it did.

I have a shot of Wargus' Escort ship and my starter space ship in miniature "Roomba vacuum" mode after beam down. It's actually kind of a cute way to see the ship models. If they want to miniaturize your ship and have you running around shooting phasers and photon torpedoes at regular-size character models, well, the engine already knows how to do that.  Roll Eyes

If they want to miniaturize your ship and have you running around shooting phasers and photon torpedoes at regular-size character models, well, the engine already knows how to do that.  Roll Eyes
