I got the authenticator app on my iphone, it's quick and convenient for the most part but I'm not sure I want to go through that process every time I log in to any Blizzard game.

It looks like I finally got some "your account has changed" phishing emails, so I can finally join the club.  They actually look damn authentic ( hell they might be).  I haven't played in over 2-3 years and on this computer so not sure how they got me unless they went through blizzard.

My account got hacked.  Blizzard noticed before I did.  In the end the only change was that I had mastered mining and had a few 1000 gold more than when I started in mining supplies.

I got my authenticator a couple weeks ago. Everytime I use it to log in I get this peaceful secure feeling come over me just knowing it is all safe now.

Do they just send them out blindly or are they targeted at known WOW players (active and former)?  If the later than I wonder how they found me?

I would say some of them are sent blindly...I know people who have never played WoW that have received the emails.

Blindly, that's pretty much how all mass random spam works.

Well, about two years ago I had played the trial. Once I was done with it, I thought none of it. It seems now that hackers have gotten hold of it and I recently got an email that looks like it comes from Blizzard's Account Administration Team, saying that it's come to their attention that whoever's behind it, is trying to sell the accounts. Being that I'm not a WoW player, I don't really care that I can't play, but it does miff me that they've gotten hold of the account. Now, what I'd like to do is disable the account permanently, and I tried to get in and have the password reset and my email address changed, but whatever security method Blizzard has in place certainly isn't making it easy for someone like me to simply close it. Being that I'm not even a player, it would be rather silly for me to order an authenticator just to close it down and put the issue to rest, not to mention that some options to make this possible aren't even available for someone who never had a subscription, leaving me in a catch-22. I guess I'll just have to let them disable it.

This is the email I got. It sure looks legitimate, though that address they have on there makes me feel it's iffy:

It's a scam mail - take a look at this

edit: In short, Blizzard does not threaten to do something - if they suspect foul play, they close the account.

I thought as much. Thanks. They're really getting crafty, aren't they? This one even had a graphical header that says Account Administration Team. Anyhow, I just wanted to check to be sure.

Highlight the link they want you to visit (but don't click on it). Odds are it goes to something like us.battle.net-wow-administration-europe-moreWoWsoundingwords.net and such.

I get scam mails like these on practically a weekly basis.

Just in case anyone hasn't spotted the somewhat obvious counter to these.

Never. Never ever ever. N-E-V-E-R, click through an email, to do account administration of anything. Not even if it's your bestest buddy sending you the link, and swearing up and down it's legit. Just pretend that no matter what, it ISN'T.

Want to check your account? Manually surf the site, use a bookmark, what have you, and login that way.

Clicking through an email link, is like begging the universe to screw you over. No lube.

The best phish in the world, cannot overcome this. If you don't use their link, they don't get their goodies. (barring spyware, but that's a different subject)

Atomic

And no, no googling for the website. What happens if some scammer manages to get their phish site on the front page for a while and you accidentally use it? Don't be lazy folks smile

Just got an email last week that my WoW account was hacked. I no longer play. Haven't touched the game since last December, but man, do these accounts get hacked easily or what? I've no interest in going back to the game, so I haven't bothered with responding to the email.
