Anyone want to play same games of this?  I'm thinking a few quick games to start out, then we can do a larger game where we save and resume.

Co-op? I'm down with some co-op.  I'm going to stay away from playing against human opponents until I get more comfortable with the game.

Co-op would be good.  I have some free time tonight 5pm PST if anyone wants to try a co-op game tonight to learn.

Sure, I should be on at that time.  I do have a ventrilo server for GT/OO folk that want to play SINS together.  I'll post info on the server if people are interested.

Sorry Jarrod for the late reply, was playing a co-op game with Turtle all night.  Sent you a personal message for the vent info.

Oh and I downloaded ICQ: USMC Kato

Very cool game.  I really need to RTFM but it was funning playing with Turtle and learning the ropes.

Not a very good screenshot but basically Turtle had to save my ass the entire game.

Keep in mind, we were playing against 2 easy AIs, and they kept us on our toes as beginners.

I tended to mass up in large grade fleets, but I sacrificed a lot of fine control for that.  Thankfully, the fleet mechanic really works and they do a good job of fighting on their own.  There are just so many ways to automate what would be dull things to do in the game.

That said, next game I'll probably break down my ships into smaller fleets focused around only 1 or 2 cap ships, then work on attacking more often and using more specialized ship and research combos.

That said, I do have a small gripe in that the ships and 3 races aren't all that different gameplay-wise.  Very much like total annihilation difference where you basically have those same roles filled with units that do pretty similar damage.

Oh, and this was just a 2v2 locked teams.  Next game it'd be interesting to try a larger, maybe random map with more teams.  Depending on how many join us in the next game, we could get teams of 3v3v3 or 4v4.

I saw you guys were playing last night.  I think I jumped into ICO about 10 minutes too late.   icon_frown

ICO Name = Lockdown or LD  (can't remember)

Is there a spectator mode that can be enabled via the game setup?  I was hoping I could come into the game and at least watch you guys if not join halfway through, which I don't think is an option.  Unfortunately, I think games are "locked" once started.  Huge bummer.

Yeah... I want to play... but mediacom has been down for most of the day, so not sure if I will be able to make it.  May need to talk with the university computer folks so that I can register my new computer.

I'm on Ironclad as Thin J of course.

Surprised at the number of people that got this.

I have to say my initial impressions are that it feels a little soulless but that's not really what I came to this game for anyway.

Played one complete 3v3 game with Kato and Evilekim tonight and we wiped em easy.  So we started another with 3 vs 2 teams of 2.   We're cleaning house again and I have a fleet of 16 cap ships ready to unleash some pain on the remaining AI's.

A lot of people accused Homeworld of that. So maybe that's a compliment. smile Space tends to feel that way (maybe more 2001: A Space Odyssey than Star Wars) unless they inject a soap opera aspect into it.

I'd love to get in the co-op, though I think it'll take me a while to reach the point of being mediocre, much less competent. I was able to get "Blackjack" as my Iron Clad Online name.  icon_cool

in as well.  i got both my main name and my live tag, account name is the same as my psn login.

so, do you add the account name as a friend or the player name you add in once you get logged in to ICO?

i saw kato last night, but he was already in and i was too interested in learning the game to set up a vent client.

i like what i see, even though it doesn't seem anywhere as complex as gc2.  kind of like homeworld with a strategic scope minus the 3d playfield.

Now that he has the info you might want to edit that out. Lots of vent servers, including one I use over at Gamerswithjobs, have been getting griefers that hop on their vent servers and play loud sounds into the mic and just generally act like assholes.

Their persistance is surprising too. If you don't ban them outright then and there they'll come back and keep right on doing it.

In your defense, you did get stuck in a solar system with 1 hard AI and 1 normal AI, while me and Jarrod only had to deal with 1 AI.

I'm up for another game tonight.  But I'm just about to head out to buy some furniture and grab food, should be back in 1-2 hours (around 5-6pm PST).  I wanted to try some different early game tactics and different fleet compositions.

I also want to try some versus games against actual humans.

Say, maybe we could play with us as a team against other humans?

By the way, cap ships push back culture by a significant amount, I think the culture/support battlecruiser does it the best, so if you really want to colonize a planet and some lingering culture is preventing you, park your cap ships in that space for a bit to claim it.

I really think they need another sub-selection window, not just the big empire tree with its tiny icons.  But something like in Warcraft 3, Company of Heroes, etc... where you can more easily make sub-selections within the currently selected ships/fleet.

Also, has anyone had much use of the empire tree?

BUMP

My in-game name is Mattc0m. I'm pretty pro at this game already... love it. I'm generally not one for RTS games online, either, but these more epicly scaled RTS games (Supreme Commander, Sins of a Solar Empire) I'm really digging online.
