Yes, you need to uninstall the Beta client and delete the Rift folder.  Then download the headstart client and update it (another 8GB)  The only exception is if you purchased it from steam or amazon and downloaded it that way.

EDIT: Make sure you manually delete the Rift folder...the uninstall does not do it for you.  Anyway, got my first computer done and I'm working on my wife's computer now.  About 3 hours to download for me.

Another question if anyone knows. I pre-ordered from Gamestop and got a code. I believe it to be my head start code and when I apply it, it now shows Voucher above all of my beta invites. Is this, if anyone knows, my head start notification?

Don't know Vindel but see if you can download the launch client after deleting your beta client.  If you can then you should be good to go.

yeah, the download was really smooth for me too.   now too see how their servers handle the launch tomorrow; I'm half expecting at least one big patch before I get to play tomorrow evening.

yea got mine to 25 and at times was boring as all hell. Alot of damage but 2 key combat just sucks

I hated riftblade because of this.  Flamespear x 3 then fiery burst and repeat.

The other team in this video sucks.  All you have to do to take down a sab is down a heal potion & charge them. They have very few constant damage abilities (standard attacks), most of those will be associated with their off souls, so they are stuck with doing no damage to you over 6 seconds of GCD while you pummel them.  It takes two full sets of charges & detonates to bring down anybody unless there is a huge level difference or they are already very hurt.

The groups that play well take them down early (them & the healers) from my experience having played both.  Now, start pulling out the bleeds, slow & snares and the class gets more fun.

most people in pvp attack the closest person and don't even look twice at anyone outside of melee range if there is someone within melee range.  This leads to Sabs being able to do what they do.  If everyone always went for biggest threat first, sure they'd be balanced, but 95%+ of the gaming population are not very tactically sound or situationally aware

Hunh. My "regular" guild isn't playing this and it looks like all of the guilds I see through here and OO are going PvP which I typically don't have much interest in.  I admit that I'm a bit curious as to why they're all going PvP as I hadn't heard anything about the openworld PvP that seemed to set it apart from anything we've seen before in games where these same guilds have gone PvE. Did I miss something?

I also notice that the only RP designated server is PvP. I'm not really an RPer but tend to roll on those servers as I maintain the delusion that they tend to have a more mature crowd In any case, I may be willing to at least give it a shot on Sunrest. I figure that if I am going to give a PvP server a whirl I'll at least do it on one where I can have a guild to back me up

Apart from that, any word of a friendly type guild on any of the PvE servers?

Downloaded it. Installed it. Then went on vacation to San Francisco. Never got to try the Beta.  I think I'll wait for reviews to see if this one's worth picking up. I'm trying not to get into MMOs again until either 'Guild Wars 2' or 'Old Republic' are released.

Qt3 has a pve guild as well.  There is also a PvE-RP server (Faeblight)

In addition to all the reasons I normally like PvP servers, the Rift mechanic also allows another level of interaction between factions.  Fighting an opposing player while dancing around an incoming invasion is quite the adrenaline rush.

EDIT: have to say I am so glad I managed to get home on time...I got all six names reserved on my wife's account and mine even if I can't get back in to actually play.  Expect many more servers to be opened up later today.

fool around. only female elves showing, defiant and guardian alike. hmm.
logout. force recheck on files. 4 minutes. download 256 meg patch.. 11 minutes.
re-login. server queue... 1 hour plus.
plug through the queue blah blah.
ok, almost there. less than 20 in queue, just a couple minutes.
machine issues which I dont normally have, force reboot.
log back in. 1 hour queue again.
Really nice morning so far. My group is already 8 levels ahead of me and the gap is only getting wider

Supposedly they had 1m pre-orders...I don't think they expected so many of those to login right at 10am PST though   I had both computers patched and going when the shards unlocked and got lucky but then clicked the shard button by accident about 30 mins in and dropped out into the main queue on shadefallen.  That's when I noticed that 1800 queue for Wolfsbane.  Anyway, no problems so far and the servers seem to be holding up well under the first true stress test

500th in the queue for Icewatch.  I've dropped from 650 in about quarter of an hour but been stuck at 500 for a few minutes now, and it's prime-time for Euros.  Looks like I won't be playing tonight.

They are aggressively opening new servers, I counted at least 8 new servers about 20 minutes after launch.

Eh, it is launch day, you would think people would be used to how MMO launches go by now.  Servers are only supposed to be down for 15 minutes, and honestly I had no performance issues once I got in.

I don't recall any of them in recent memory not allowing folks in for 3 to 5 hours at a time though.  DC Universe Online, Cataclysm, Star Trek Online, LOTRO....they all seemed to have their problems, but not to the extent it seems Rift is having right now.  

I was on the fence when it came to buying into another MMO on launch day...but this makes the decision easier.  I'll just hold out for now...
