Planetside Next (Planetside 2)

I suppose it was inevitable, but SOE is putting out a survey asking people what they'd like to see in it.  I never have played it but I'm thinking about grabbing the D2D version for 5 bucks, and if I actually like it then a sequel will be welcome news.

I really liked Planetside. It certainly had its flaws, but when things clicked it was a really, really good time. I'd love to see a sequel - to date nobody has really done an MMO shooter that compares.

Definitely interested in this.  I've always regretted not trying out the first game while it was popular.  Long after the fact, I read loads of AARs that made it sound like an unbelievably exciting game when the conditions were right.

I mostly had a ball with Planetside for the roughly 6 months I played in 2003. I got on a decent "outfit" (guild) called Rebel Nation Soldiers that had ventrilo and a fairly busy message board. I just remember the comedy of having some kid on our team who had to be like a very immature 9 year old or something. So interspered with the 20-30-40 year old guys talking seriously about strategies, the kid would pipe in with whine chatter.

What I mainly liked about Tabula Rasa was that it had something similar (albeit vs. AI aliens) to Planetside with its adrenalized base defense/attack stuff, but plenty of traditional MMO-type questing so you didn't glaze over from the sheer repetition of "base defend/base attack, lather, rinse, repeat."

I don't really see the point of a better looking Planetside; I don't think that's going to expand the player-base if that's all they really end up doing. Hopefully there's more to it than that, and then maybe I might be interested.

Although I can tell you from my 2003 experience that about 93% of the other players in the game will be complete jerks, including your so-called teammates. Unfortunately, that's an issue no software client can solve.   I still have a few good memories of PS, it just wasn't something I could see playing super long-term (I stuck around about 6 months). Assuming it's still a monthly-fee game, I suspect it might have problems in a world full of Global Agendas and the like.

Yup, I really liked the play mechanics , but didn't care much for the crowd which were way too much run'n'gun without a thought for my likings. My other big problem with it is that SOE's behind it. I'd play if it truly was f2p, but there's no way I'd ever consider giving SOE any CC info. When they made it f2p before it was hardly that, so it'd have to offer more than they did then for me to consider it.

I never had a problem with attitude in PS.  People were always nice and helpful and worked as a team when I played.  *shrug*

This is great. The first game was a head of its time. it must have played it over a year off and on. Can't wait for the second one. Now we just need a release date!

I stopped in my local Barnes and Nobles and picked up a copy of PC Gamer with the Planetside code today. There were about 3 copies on the shelf. Now when does this beta start!! I am excited.

How can you tell?  All I get is the anti-spam wording now and no comment box or any sign my post went through.

So you go to the page and it says this without you trying to post at all? Is there an option to log in with Facebook or Google?
