Since I have been playing sporadically the last couple of weeks, I have to tell you the game (at least the server I'm on) seems completely deserted. I've not so far seen as much as one other person chatting in the game. (yes, I'm past the tutorial section). I know they already did a server consolidation but they may need to do it one more time, imho.

I think they did or have another server merge coming. Personally, this is one case where I think a single "mega server" as Cryptic does would make sense.

If you visit our old thread, you'll see I played it for the 30-days free after letting the box rot many months. I couldn't find a single other soul in the game during my brief stint, so I'll be curious if going F2P at least lets you not feel like you signed up for a single player MMO.  Frankly, I think the game is far too sluggish (however realistic that is) for most of today's MMO population.

I just got an email about my account from SOE saying it'd be free to play on or around November 22nd.  I can't wait to get back to Captain Flamb Oyant and the Buffy!

They flipped the F2P switch to 'ON' today, for those that have been waiting for this. Although their website now says that the result of this flipping of the switch killed the servers (servers: OMGWTF...players? Logging in? CRASH DIVE!!!) and that they won't be back up until 4 PST or so so you might want to just relax about playing today.

it amazes me that companies can still be surprised by this... even after it came up --- MAJOR avatar warping in the begining area

(it would seem to me that the lightly populated french or spanish would be susceptible to allowing a solid group of players from here or OO gaining the governor slot of a town)

I am considering going back to this.  I believe I played the Brits previously, but would be up for the Spanish.  Not sure I could stomach flying a french sail.

This is only related to PotBS because I went to sign into my Station account to try the game out....

Fuck Sony and their user system.  I had forgotten my password, so I did the "Forgot Password" option on Station.  I received an email with my temporary password.  I go back to Station, put in my username, and put in the temporary password, which I copy / pasted from the email.  It tells me "Invalid Password".

I request another temporary password, and I receive an email stating I have requested my password too many times.

I waited about 12 hours and tried the whole process again.  The same outcome - I received a new temporary password, I enter it in, and Station tells me incorrect password.

I'm trying to locate a number where I can call Station Support to get this worked out.  All I can find are numbers to call for specific games.  Maybe I'll consider this to be an issue with PotBS and talk to someone there.....

Never had that issue, and used Station a lot - And you are sure you are using the correct user name, and caps lock and the like is set as it should be?

edit: I know the question is annoying, but the system has been in place for many years by now, so the easiest place to look for errors is at the user at first of course ;-)

Oh, I've been using Station for years also, and this issue has recently appeared.

Yes, I'm using the correct user name, because it's the name I entered to get the email sent to me for my temporary password.

Caps lock doesn't matter in this case, because I'm cut/pasting directly from the email.

I'll also mention that a few months ago, I received an email from Station thanking me for my Star Wars Galaxies purchase.  Someone had hacked my Station accoun t, put in a bogus credit card, and purchased the complete Star Wars Galaxies set.  That's the reason for changing my password the first time.

What boggles me more is why someone would hack a Station account just to play SWG.....

currently playing french on the EU server and brit on the antigua server (but willing to switch to another either french or spanish - i like french only because it seems to be least populated and i prefer to fight from an underdog position)

Interesting news from an SOE e-mail: Sony Online Entertainment is abandoning ship but former members of the dev co. (Flying Lab) plan to migrate players over and continue the game independently. Too bad this couldn't happen with City of Heroes, eh?  

After much review and consideration, SOE and Flying Lab Software have decided that Pirates of the Burning Sea will leave the SOE family of games on January 31, 2013.

Portalus Games, a new company made up of former Flying Lab employees, is planning to re-launch the game on its own platform in the near future.

Portalus Games plans to continue operation of both the Roberts and Antigua servers upon the re-launch. If you wish to have access to your existing characters when Portalus relaunches the game, you will need to create a Portalus Games account and link your game data to that account before January 31, 2013 (details below).

Please note that none of your SOE account data or personal information will be transferred in this process.
