PAPA's no longer behind a strict NAT night of fun!

So I finally bit the bullet today and order internet I could control.  Bottom line is the apartment's IT guy is a moron!  So I called up ATT today (exclusive contract with them from the apartment complex) and got my own line for $28 a month.  A small price to pay to enjoy gaming with you crazy people!!

So in honor of this occasion I will be playing COD 4 Saturday night hopefully around 10 CST (I am going to be in tunica Mississippi Friday into Saturday morning or I would be on more).  Hopefully I will see the usual suspects on.....

Yeah it sucks that I have to pay extra for it but when it comes down to it I will have better speed/bandwidth and I will have the power to do as I please.  I am hoping that i get the modem on Wed.  In which case I will be playing with my router and modem to make it all work.

Att is fucking stupid.  The girl who took my order told me the wrong service activation date.  I was told when I placed the order on Monday that my service would be active on Wed.  I thought wow that is quick but she also said I would have my modem by wed or Thursday so I really didn't think anything about it.  Well sure enough my modem arrived today.  I begin the setup process and to my displeasure my dsl light was flashing red.  I call their stupid automated support line, get transfered to a person, get put on hold, finally get a nice lady who informs me that my service doesn't get activated until NEXT WED.  When the girl told me the day of service she left out the date.  Since I ordered on Monday she said wed. for the service and wed or thursday for the modem.  Now I have a modem sitting here with no service until next week.  Guess it looks like I am going to have to post pone my night of fun....

On the bright side friday is dead day.....meaning a long weekend of gaming is in store.  I guess I have spent 7 weeks with shitty internet, I guess I can do another week.....   OH and I pulled alittle att there...Friday dec 7th

Yeah I really haven't been able to catch a break this week.....it is ok....I am going to the casinos tomorrow so we will see if my luck changes...my guess....I walk out down my limit.....but oh well

well my bad luck streak continued at the casino but it was a blast.  On a brighter note, I woke up a little while ago and noticed that my modem is finally operational.  Just need to set up my account and I should be ready to roll.  But alas I can't do it till later, I have to go to class.....freaking finals are just around the corner

I am really looking forward to playing with you guys again....lag and strict nat free!!!

This actually sounds like a fun idea.  I haven't had time to play COD4 for quite some time, and it would be nice to get together again with some familiar "faces".  I'm only around rank 18, but I've been known to hold my own in the occasional FPS. 

Although I have been considering revisiting Gears of War, and perhaps Gears would be an interesting way to bring back the Geezers Gone Wild series.  What to do.  What to do.

well....after almost shitting a brick today setting up my router, I think I am up and running.

Turns out ATT's modems come preset with security that causes strict NAT.  After changing that setting in the modem, when my 360 was hooked up to the modem I was open.  After going through my router I was moderate.  That was an easy two port forward to fix.  I am now up and running.

After figuring out that the problem was in the modem not my apt. security, I was nice enough to call the apt. IT guy to let him know that was the issue.  Turns out the college kid not major in computers can find issues faster then some people who do IT for a career.  In all fairness though, I figured it was in the modem when I had the issue right out of the box.....so it was nothing to do with his security which explains a LOT!

On a lighter side....if anyone has an ATT modem and has a strict NAT and want to know what that setting was, just let me know and I will tell you how to change it.

At this point I think even if the IT guy fixed the NAT problem you would be suffering from lag/connection issues regardless.

I have mixed feelings about this.  While its great to have Papasmurff back as a teammate, but as an opponent...... there have been way too many times when Papasmruff teaches me how to properly block a rifle round with my face

I dunno, I think it will add some variety when we are playing private matches.  Instead of seeing 'usmc Kato killed you' 2 out of 3 deaths I will get to see 'papa smurff4 killed' you a few times as well.

I swear Kato has a 'jarrod locator' on his hud.  It is awesome when he's on my side but man... on the opposing team I get to see a whole lot of 2 second replays of myself dying from Kato's point of view.
