No clue what you mean by packs only available per character since they are per account, not character

On the French forums, Bioware already announced the Operation Beachhead event details for this weekend:
http://social.bioware.com/forum/3/topic/348/index/10985018
Google's feeble attempt to translate:
Quote
Operation Beachhead (from 7 to 9 April)

Allied forces gathered Krogan mercenary, and the Butarien Justicars Asari for a new fight.
Their mission: to create a drag force on the planets occupied by the Reapers in order to master them.

[community goal] Target ally successful extractions on Firebase 500,000 Reactor and Firebase Glacier.

Team Goal: Successful extraction of Firebase Reactor in trouble Or [this is likely "Gold" challenge setting]

If the goal is reached ally, the community will be rewarded with a pack "Victory".

If the team goal is reached, the team will receive a pack "Commendation".

Operation Beachhead will begin the next weekend N7 multiplayer!

Last weekend the community has come together to promote more than 350,000 units on the battlefield, a record! This weekend we once again appeal to our veterans to attack bases and Firebase Reactor Firebase Glacier.

The operation will take place Saturday, April 7 2:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 9 on Xbox 360 and PC. Unfortunately we can not offer our weekends multiplayer on the PlayStation 3. Sony has not yet approved the transaction.

We continue to work with them to find a compromise, but by that time, Sony does not allow us to organize on PS3 the same challenges as those we offer on Xbox 360 and PC.

Did some Gold level Geth tonight with my brother and friend and a random pug.  Completed the first one and the dude dropped at wave 3 on the second match.  We ended up 3 manning it:

Geth are so easy with Salarians because of Energy Drain.  Decoy for Salarian Engineers is also crazy good.

Well no pack for me from last weekend.  Not sure what happened, I promoted 3 chars at least, two of them were already lvl 20 at the start though maybe that was an issue.

Crazy stats from gold namatoki!

I didn't play during the event, just promoted 2 20's I had sitting there.  You sure you promoted during the window of the event?  Maybe you  prematurely promtoed?

I didn't receive mine yet either Otter, I promoted 2 on Saturday, and 3 more on Sunday.

The French forums now indicate that Operation Beachhead details post has been removed:
http://social.bioware.com/forum/Mass-Effect-3/ME3---Discussion-sur-le-Multijoueurs/ou-est-le-post-Week-End-Challenge-N7-Opration-BEACHHEAD---11017343-1.html

ou est le post Week-End Challenge N7: Opération BEACHHEAD ?
===========
sacrebleu!  saywhat

*A fan asked what happened to the post with the Operation Beachhead details. And another fan speculated that given concerns people are exploiting (intentionally or accidentally) the system to get multiple free reward packs while others so far haven't received theirs at all, they might skip doing the event this weekend or perhaps even doing events at all until they "fix" the system.

I was alerted to all this yesterday by a post at the U.S. forums pointing out the French announcement by Bioware. But by the time I got home, moderators presumably removed the whole thread at the U.S. forum about it.

What happened with me is that when I was using one character, he had access to the free reward pack and bought it. So I didn't see it on the store list when fiddling with a couple of other characters. Then on the fourth character, the free reward pack was listed in the store again so I got it. So I thought I got two packs, but I guess it's entirely possible I didn't actually receive the first one (though I saw it "opened" on screen and all the goodies in it listed). And I certainly got the N7 sniper rifle from the "first" free reward pack OK.

I realize it's technically based on your login, I'm just saying, when I was fiddling with some characters, the free pack was in the store; when fiddling with others, it wasn't. So I don't really know what's going on or what that indicates. confused

Apparently there is an exploit that allowed players to gain access to multiple Victory and Commendation packs which caused other players to not receive them at all.  That really sucks because I really enjoy these weekend challenges.  It's a shame that a few assholes have to ruin fun for all.

Still nothing at the U.S. forums about Beachhead this morning. However, the French forums now announced a simpler 25% EXP bonus Beachhead event.  icon_neutral

Week-End Challenge N7: Opération BEACHHEAD
http://social.bioware.com/forum/3/topic/348/index/11082186
Loosely Google translated:
Quote
Operation Beachhead (6 to 9 April)

Allied forces gathered Krogan mercenary, and the Butarien Justicars Asari for a new fight. Their mission: to create a drag force on the planets occupied by the Reapers in order to master them.

All forces N7 will receive a bonus XP by 25% during their participation in operations in each area and against every enemy.

Good luck!

Last weekend the community has come together to promote more than 350,000 units on the battlefield, a record!

This weekend, Operation Beachhead will run from Friday, April 6 3:00 until 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 9 on Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3.

Remember to enable the "send feedback" in the options online to participate in Operation Beachhead.
Clearly either the pack exploits or technical difficulties made the more interesting initial Beachhead plan un-doable.

Holy crap! I missed this announcement earlier about a new, free DLC multiplayer pack coming out Tuesday, April 10, including two new maps, and several new characters (including Geth):

Mass Effect 3: Resurgence Pack
http://blog.bioware.com/2012/04/06/mass-effect-3-resurgence-pack/
Quote
Owners of Mass Effect 3 can download the first multiplayer expansion for no additional cost.

The Mass Effect 3 Resurgence Pack adds new unlockable content: deadly weapons, new consumables, and powerful characters for each class in multiplayer, including the Asari Justicar, Batarian, Geth, and Krogan Battlemaster.  Additionally, the Mass Effect 3 Resurgence Pack also includes 2 new maps, Firebase Condor and Firebase Hydra.

Download this pack on April 10th and take the battle online in the critically acclaimed Mass Effect 3 multiplayer experience.
====================

CHARACTERS

Asari Justicar/Adept
Asari are fierce, graceful warriors. They are incredibly powerful natural biotics. The asari excel at hit-and-run tactics that ruthlessly eliminate their opponents from the battlefield.

Krogan Battlemaster/Vanguard
Krogan Vanguards are a brutish specimen. These fully mature krogan might be old and slow, but their biotic charge ability makes up for it. Their heavy shields and ability in close makes them a menace on the battlefield.

Geth Infiltrator
Geth Infiltrators converge quickly on a target while remaining undetected. Their unique perception systems give Geth Infiltrators an unsurpassed understanding of the battlefield.

Geth Engineer
Geth Engineers are elite support specialists. Their unique perception systems give Geth Engineers an unsurpassed understanding of the battlefield.

Batarian Soldier & Sentinel
Batarians are large brawlers that use nets and spiked weapons to capture targets… or to bleed them dry on the battlefield. If an opponent gets too close, a Batarian bludgeons them with spiked armor and enforcement gauntlets.
===========
MAPS
 • Firebase Condor – A warzone outpost located on one of Palaven’s moons, Firebase Condor represents a crucial asset in the defense of the Turian homeworld, providing the beleaguered turian fleet with a place to refuel and repair. Its loss could grant the Reapers unparalleled access to the Inner Council Theatre.

Firebase Hydra – Firebase Hydra is located in an old abandoned Quarian colony which humans took over when they originally settled the world of Ontarom. It has since been converted into a massive dam facility which powers the communications hub located at Firebase Dagger and the kinetic barrier which protects it. Without this critical power source, Systems Alliance communications within the entire theatre would go dark.
==============
WEAPONS
• Striker Assault Rifle – Krogan rifle with explosive rounds. Its rate of fire increases when the trigger is held.
• Kishock Harpoon Gun – Deadly one-shot batarian weapon. Causes bleed-out or disruption of target.
• Geth Plasma SMG – Fully-automatic geth submachine gun. Its rate of fire increases when the trigger is held.

The best part about the DLC is that it is FREE!   icon_biggrin

Not sure what is going to be different with the Asari Justicar since there already is an Asari Adept.  Hopefully, they have a cool and interesting mechanic.

I'm excited about the new maps as well.  Starting to get a little stale with the same maps over and over.

Edit: After watching the trailer for the DLC again, I noticed that the Asari Justicar has what looks like a shield bubble that provides some damage reduction for your squad.  That looks really cool.  icon_cool

Yeah, they could use some classes with some more original and direct team support abilities. Right now, your main way of using teamwork is shooting at the same thing, and once in a while getting a combo off (Although I have no idea how various combos work).

Thanks for pointing that out - I forgot to watch the video.  icon_smile That sequence is at about the 45 second mark.

I do remember thinking that the Stasis bubble attack reminded me so much of the force bubble Defender in City of Heroes, except those were defensive. I wonder if these do anything other than provide protection.

The video shows off the new maps quite a bit. They look sweet but maybe I'm just so tired of the existing ones, anything new would look great.  icon_smile

Looking forward to the new classes and maps. I figured we'd see playable Geth at some point, but Batarians? What's next - Volus? You just know the Krogan Battlemaster will be a rare. Time to start saving up credits now.

The only map of the 6 we have now that I don't like is Reactor. Two new ones are very welcome.

There was a leaked screenshot I saw of the new classes in the "pack" format and they were all gold, i.e. rare.  I really wish they keep the Premium Spectre packs around, but I know they will be gone on Monday. frown

I really dislike the Reactor map as well.  I'm really looking forward to the new maps too. smile

That's funny, because I have the exact opposite issue.  I fully unlocked my Asari Adept (I can customize skin tone), but still have yet to unlock the Salarian Infiltrator.  I really want the Salarian Infiltrator too since Energy Drain from cloak is uber powerful.  Salarian Infiltrator + N7 Valiant Sniper Rifle = Win.

They've called it both, causing confusion. There is a graphic on this page that shows Krogan Vanguard is the same as the Battlemaster.

http://blog.bioware.com/2012/04/06/mass-effect-3-resurgence-pack/

It's basically one new race for each of the 6 classes.

Well, I tried to make a video of my gold level Geth run, but since I only have the free version of fraps, I could only record 30 secs.  So this is the first 30 secs of wave 5:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0p44Wu7rig&feature=youtu.be

Also, I noticed that fraps makes a huge file.  30 seconds is 200+ mb?  Blackjack, do you have some utility that compresses the fraps file?

For me two very different options have worked:

*If you just want to optimize a 'fat' .AVI file into a much smaller/easier to download .wmv (Windows Media) file, I recommend Microsoft's free Windows Media Encoder (I think the latest version is called "Expression Encoder 4", and the basic version remains free):
http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/encoder4_overview.aspx

It takes some fiddling to understand how to use it, but ultimately it'll let you sort of export the big .AVI file as a smaller .wmv that's better suited to uploading to YouTube or the like.

*Alternatively, to get around the 30-second free FRAPS' time limit, what I do these days is I use Windows' built-in "Windows Movie Maker" accessory (Programs>Windows Movie Maker; it's not in a Start menu folder per se).

That lets you drag in multiple .AVI files (technically, you have to sort of drag them onto a list in Movie Maker to make them available first), add transitions, credits etc. I find it very fun to use. Then when you're done, it lets you "publish" your movie as an optimized .wmv (Windows Media) file that will be much smaller than if you just published .AVI files. This is how I've done the various "compilations" I've shared at forums here for ME3, Diablo 3 beta, Renegade Ops, Alien Breed and other games.  icon_cool

Movie Maker more importantly makes it easy to edit down footage, so often I'll tweak out the boring parts.  icon_smile It also reminds me often of the late, great (imho), underappreciated The Movies, by Lionhead (2005) in terms of doing film editing.

*If you need any help using either of those programs, PM me and I'll try to walk you through it, and share what settings I've used for export/publishing.  icon_smile

I took a bunch of screen captures from the Resurgence DLC video trailer. Too many for one post, so I'll divvy it up by type (New characters [w/ glimpses of what may be new powers], New Maps, New Weapons):

New Characters:
Asari Adept, Krogan Vanguard and Batarian Soldier

Asari Adept casting, we think, a defensive Stasis bubble

Batarian Soldier (might just be a regular melee attack, not sure)

SIGH. The forum just crashed in the middle of my post. Trying to re-do it.  crybaby Apparently the SQL goes beserk with too many images in one post or something.

Resurgence DLC characters (continued)

Krogan Vanguard

Geth Infiltrator

Geth Engineer (pyro turrets, apparently)

Batari Sentinel (some kind of entangling 'web' attack)

Peek at the Resurgence DLC weapons:

Striker Assault Rifle (seems to be hard-hitting, not too fast-firing)

Geth Plasma SMG

Kishock Harpoon Gun (doesn't seem to let you 'reel in' targets, which mighta been cool  icon_twisted)

Harpoon gun also seems an effective melee "bash" weapon:

That ability for the Asari Justicar is defintiely just a Barrier. No stasis. You see it used in ME2 and ME3's story.

It should block some incoming fire, and allow fire to go out. Very useful.

So I used Windows Movie Maker and it was pretty easy to put together my fraps clips.  I didn't edit them since I wasn't sure how and plus the video was stuttering in WMM which made playback hard to go through.  What settings do you use in fraps and what settings do you publish at, Blackjack?

Anyway, here is my video: http://youtu.be/3l7LO_0AZgU

I played a few games of gold level Geth on Firebase White with my brother, friend, and a random player.  I played as Salarian Engineer for most of it, and then switched to Asari Adept later.  I wish I didn't lose so much FPS when I start recording video.  I go from 60 to ~30 or so.  I'm not sure if I can adjust some settings to not take such a big performance hit.  Anyway, I hope you liked the video!  icon_smile

btw FRAPS is well worth the purchase price imo.  I bought it ages ago.

You can tell fraps to record at either lower res, or to halve the fps on it's own which can help.  Also depending on your system telling it to ignore the audio can be a big help as well.

We got a GTers/pals of GTers group going for a while last night, then the servers seem to go kaput, here on new map Hydra:

Initial impression is Hydra's cool if you want a wider, larger map with more room to maneuver in. On Bronze sometimes it felt too big -- there'd be large areas with simply no enemies in sight. Wasn't a problem on Silver. We had one comical moment where we were battling several Phantoms in one area and seemed to do a round-robin of dying, though we did get through it eventually.  icon_smile

Condor is perhaps busier, and a little less room to maneuver. Takes a while on both to get used to the ammo crates locations. On Condor, there's one that's practically hidden by a large shadow, so it's easy to miss cause you can't easily see it flashing like the others.

Some glimpses of a Batarian (I died often, but at least Spectator mode allows some nice close up screenshots):

CaptainFooze's description of Condor is that "It's like a big doughnut". Which I think is pretty accurate, a small circular map, with a good action spot in the middle.

I prefer Hyrda though. Also did you happen to notice how cool the melee attack is with the Batarian. The animation and sound effects are the best in the game. I think at one point CaptFooze had 25 melee kills in one game last night.

I couldn't get the store working last night, hopefully I'll unlock one of the new characters later in the week.

Well it is discouraging playing with Hark and Kato, those guys get so lucky on items in Specter packs!!  Hark has the new Geth character and the new SMG, Harpoon gun and the new assault rifle (the Striker?) and Kato got two of the new characters in one pack and also has the Striker.  I in the mean time got squadouche on my three attempts at buying stuff other than more upgrades to the Falcon rifle (which is useless), hey how about letting me carry more than 2 rockets at least!  Or how about an upgrade to the Carneflex pistol for Shepards sake.

After my 2 next premium specter packs I received, I now have every new character except the Batarian Sentinel. Also the new Geth SMG  ninja
