I also wish there was an easier way to add folks from within a multiplayer game. I've enjoyed playing Alien Swarm with lots of pickup group teammates, but many use a different nickname than their Steam ID. You can of course just ask someone, but sometimes games break up abruptly. |

I thought something like that was possible but couldn't find a way to do it, so I just let it drop. Yeah. The logic is that if you create multiple groups, everyone in GT needs to be in each one to see the people in it. They should change it to only show online folks in those groups. |

While I loved the idea of Steam community groups in theory, I ended up on probably 25 such groups mostly filled with folks I don't know who don't seem at all interested in co-op or playing together or even acknowledging each others' existence. Even when the group is called "co-op group for game X"  I don't feel Steam has found a way to "tame" the friends list UI in such a way to make it useful. Once you have a lot of folks on the list and community groups, it just seems like a mess that's tough to weed through. |
