This Friday night i will be returned from Chi-town and amped to play Gears of War.

I have several fools who want to play COOP and I'm sure there are more fools who want to play MP.

I have not played any gears in many moons and am up for either.

Let's FINISH THE FIGHT!

I doubt I'm picking it up this week, but if I can finish a game in my backlog before Friday perhaps the purchase will go over a little better.  Although Friday night gaming has kind of taken a back seat to a number of other social activities.  It has been quite a while since I last played MP in general, let alone on a Friday night.  I've kind of lost the MP bug.

I'm 99% certain it means he only wants to play the sequel and not the original.  Your post says you're up for either, which could mean you're up for either Gears 1 or 2 since it's not very clear whether you mean that or the coop/vs aspect of things.

Clarity FTW.

What game are you guys going to stick with this time around for the GT multiplayer long haul?  GoW2?  CoD5?  I don't want a repeat of getting hyped up for Bad Company only to see half of you abandon ship in the first week. slywink

Most games only get about a month of heavy GT use.  I played COD4 for over 9 months and I can easily see COD5 and L4D being worth playing for more than a month smile

Yeah BF:BC didn't get anywhere near the love it should have from this gang.  It was a total shame.

I thought GoW had long legs for you guys in late06-early07, and likewise CoD4 in late07-early08, no?  I was really late to the party on both of those so I could be misremembering my thread lurking memories.

I played GOW from Nov 2006 until about the release of GRAW2 which was May 2007 I think? Then I played that until COD4 came out in November 2007.  I played that and only that until May of 2008.  Then I played BF:BC for a while and thought it was the best MP experience I've had even when I could only cobble one or two people I knew together.  I hit my goal of a 2.0 W/L ratio and then stopped...but that was right around the time I was sort of in a gaming slump.

Gears of War was my first real MP experience and it blew my minds- most of my friends list is folks that I met playing that game and I'm looking forward to playing with them again in the game that united us. However, I'm not sure it'll have the legs for me that the first one did just by virtue of the fact that I'm a more 'mature' MP player...

Most games only get about a month of heavy GT use.

This is both a blessing and a curse.  On one hand if I pick up Gears 2 on release I'll have a good month of heavy-duty MP action.  But that's another game added to my ridiculous backlog and yet another $60 out of pocket following the purchase of Stars Wars:TFU and Fallout 3.  But if I manage to hold out for a bit I unfortunately miss the MP rush, but I save myself $60 as I felt the SP campaign in the first Gears was a bit repetitive and I'm not so anxious for the SP campaign in the sequel.  But then I miss out on the Gears experience, and since the MP portion is such a blast while it lasts, simply getting the game for SP is such a letdown if I miss the initial MP popularity.

This could be an exception with GoW2, L4D and CoD5 all coming within 2 weeks of each other and all very much focused on MP as well as CoOp.

With so many MP options to choose from I expect Gears 2's popularity to have too much competition.  The first in the series was extremely popular and I never had any problem organizing an 8 vs. 8 game, but I don't recall there being too many other MP options there were nearly as much fun.  With such a variety of MP offerings I just don't see Gears 2 being able to hold up for very long.

And I was about to come in here and lament my inability to miss out on online MP with the gang.  No matter how much I try to convince myself why I can't pick up a new game, when have I ever actually succeeded in doing so?  The wife has a friend visiting in town, Moliere has plans so our pool night is postponed, the girls are all going out for a "girls' night out", and I've got a case of Sam Adams Oktoberfest waiting for me at home in the fridge.  How can I not pick up Gears of War 2 for some online action tonight?  It is almost as if it were meant to be.  Fabulous

After all, it has been quite some time since I last enjoyed shoving my chainsaw blades down Lettuce's throat.   icon_twisted

From what I can tell we've got an "IN!" from Purge, pr0ner, Lettuce seems tentative depending on his jet lag, and it just wouldn't be Gears MP without PhillyPeteRock.  Where the hell is Kato?  I'm also trying to remember some of the other Gears of War regulars.  Man, it really has been a while.

As an FYI my local friend Snrub1 will be online around 8.  He was one of the MP loyalists that played with us in the original Gears of War and with his wife and daughter traveling for the weekend he's in immediately following dinner.  8pm Arizona time, which is now only two hours earlier than eastern time instead of the usual three.

I'll probably be online no later than 7pm Arizona (9pm Eastern).  I may log on earlier depending on when the girls head out.  I'd rather not load up Gears until the wife leaves so I don't have to explain yet another purchase right away.  She's less likely to care when she comes home drunk, tired, and ready to go to sleep.   ninja

Crap, you guys are lowering my resistance. Only thing is, with a max team of 5 will people get left out in the cold? Can you create a room of 10 to fight against one another? Co-op I know would be limited. I want the 50 wave achievement!

I know in the original we were able to fill a room with 8 players from the GT community for MP.  I can only assume that we can fill all 10 spots with GT members to chainsaw our pretty little hearts out.
