Thanks.  Eventually, we'll probably fold it into the site itself, but for now, it's on Blogger.

but for now, it's on Blogger.

And just like how Blogger was when I still used it for the main page, it's slow and prone to outright not loading when their servers get absolutely flooded.

That said, I'll be watching over it and tossing suggestions/thoughts around when I see a good reason to do so. Like my few suggestions for mods in EQ2.  icon_biggrin

If anything, I was amazed to hear that anyone is even playing EQ2.

It's not surprising it only needed 2 install discs, since the graphics are only a fraction as good as WoW.  I'm not being snarky, it's just that every screenshot I see of the game is really bad by comparison.

2 install discs? Yeah, 2 DVDs full of content (but of course you get pretty much the entire game right now with the Fae expansion). And as far as I'm concerned, the game looks fantastic on the realistic side of things (WoW does things from a sorta-cartoon look IMHO) if you have the system to turn the detail up to max (which does actually exist now unlike when the game first came out).

And to nitpick on Zarkon's picture there - it's definitely not taken at max detail. Character detail looks to be set to one step below max, and the ground textures look to be two steps below max. And he has foliage (grass) completely turned off. All of it adds up to making the game look far from what it can look like.

Right.  My system cannot do full settings at all.

Now, come March...maybe.  For now though, you're getting medium settings. smile

It's pretty enough for ME, though.

Funny thing about the character detail in EQ2 is that once you put armor on you never see it again.

Thank goodness for the option to turn off the helm graphics. Especially considering that (like WoW) most of the helms look...poor.

Even turning it off helm's from any distance every character of each race looks pretty much the same.  The only way you see the details (other than hair color) is to get right in their face.

That's exactly why I can't figure out how people spend any kind of time on what a character looks like on RPG games.  The ONLY one I've seen which matters... AT ALL... would be a Superhero game like CoH/V or Freedom Force.

Greta idea!  I'm thinking about getting back into MMO's so it looks like it'll be a good source on what's what.  Just out of curiosity, is there an actual link to the blog on the front page, or do people who don't know about it have to rely on finding this post or the news article?

There was a news story, but it's since rolled off the page.

I passed that question on to Ron.

No real clean solution for this right now, but we've already rolled it into our redesign to have a permanent spot. (and also to be moved off of blogger)  Bookmarks will be the watchword for now.  I've also stickied this thread in the mean time.

If you guys are still seeking MMO Blog fodder, NCSoft released its quarterly financials (in Korea they have to reveal a bit more about MMO sales than in the U.S., from what I recall):
http://www.plaync.com/us/news/2008/02/ncsoft_announce_27.html

There are no hard sales numbers, but some interesting year-to-year comparisons. You can sort of tell Tabula Rasa didn't set the sales world alight because it had the same share of NCSoft sales as the 3-year-old City of Heroes/City of Villains (6% each). And you can tell Lineage and Lineage II sales in Asia are still what keep the company profitable. Since Dungeon Runners is a free download, there's no mention of it, and Auto Assault is of course kaput. Guild Wars had a pretty steep drop in retail sales but it's been out quite a while so it's understandable. Guild Wars 2 is not mentioned (the general scuttlebutt is that won't likely go into beta 'til late this year - the gaming mags have had some features on it).

NCSoft only mentions Aion (I put a little update in the thread on it here) as far as new MMOs they'll launch this year. Otherwise it seems like they're focusing on some casual titles for release in Korea (Point Blank™, Punch Monster™, Dragonica™ and Love Beat™).

There's your Blackjack Analysis!  smirk

How does the MMO blog work?
Is anybody able to contribute stories to it?

The poor thing has not seen any action for like half a year now  icon_cry

edit: seems to me like alot of the topics in the Massive Multiplayer Madness section would have made great blog entries.
