It's only a model...

I finally got my very own overgrown chicken last night.   icon_cool And tonight I finally found some armor that I actually like...especially with the ice blue dye.  Only bad part is I can't equip a helm.

So exploring in this game, fun or not?
How is the "wall" implemented?Same old mountain ranges that surround each zone, or a seamless world with very few, "walls" to run into?

This is one of the aspects of ESO that I'm looking forward to most.
Playing SW:ToR for so long I'm not sure I remember how to ride a two wheeler any more.  They give you training wheels in ToR and never take them off. I hated Tatooine for that reason. Leave the main sand track, and you get the, "you have entered the wasteland, you will die if you don't turn around", message.
Talk about a yanking back to reality.

Yeah its usually mountain ranges that blocks us off,or in the shroud its vines and such...i think Ceekay encountered an invisible wall in Gridania in one of his past pictures

Can't log on again
So i start up FF14 and before the logging screen even appears i get this message

Quote
Cannot launch Final Fantasy XIV:A Realm Reborn. Please register the promotion code included with your package or download,A re-install will not be necessary.
I Already registered the code on the day the game was out,and i have had this message before,so i click ok(there is no other option)

It relaunches, this time it gets to the log in screen,i type in my password...and the green play button thing doesn't appear and eventually i get this

Quote
The Server is not responding.
For assistance with this issue, please visit Square Enix Support Centre http//:sqex.to/x4w
[11070][-2140077822]
Tried going to that site but google says did you mean sqex.to/xge ...no ...i didn't

but in the list there is support centre for NA,so i go in there, put in the error code it gave me,but the SE support site can't find any info on that error code icon_confused

I had the registration code error on Friday, but after about half a dozen tried i got in,not happening this time and now getting other errors as well

they have a tendency to put up invisible walls in areas that look like they should be passable, but it isn't horrible.

oh, and gil sellers are really starting to get annoying.  I must have gotten a half dozen tells from different ones, and then this blew up chat:

I made the chat box bigger to show what all they did, but this was over and over.  it was so lengthy it was hard to find a name until I made the chat box big enough I could type it in.  seriously, they need to add a 'block communications' option to the dropdown menu that appears when you right click on a persons name in the chat box.

Beta testing will commence on the PS4 version of FFXIV: ARR, on Saturday the 22nd of February 2014.

The FFXIV: ARR game service is now live on Windows PC and the PlayStation® 3 (PS3), and a PS4 version is currently in development. Essential work to increase the number of servers and strengthen the service environment, with the aim of alleviating the crowding on existing servers is also in progress.

and it also has something better than a Eurogamer tweet with no link about the PS4 version being free for PS3 players

Furthermore, those who are currently playing the PS3 version of FFXIV: ARR will not have to re-buy the game on PS4 and will be able to transition to playing on PS4 at no additional cost. They will even be able to carry over their character data and continue playing on the new platform.

It seems ...'something' is happening tonight in the 3 main cities

If you log in now,the 3 main cities have already got their decorations up everywhere

http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/special/Moonfire_Faire_2013/

Quote
Signs of an Old Flame

Before the fall of Dalamud, which would bring about the end of the Sixth Astral Era, a Bombard invasion set ablaze panic in the hearts and minds of the people, threatening to reduce our cities to smoldering rubble and ash. Thanks to a band of adventurers who unwittingly joined the Cascadiers, the igneous invaders were vanquished, and the realm was spared a fiery fate, or so reports had us believe.
There has been talk of sightings around Costa del Sol in eastern La Noscea. However, one must always be wary of the whispers of sailors. Ever wont to make sea hares into giant sea serpents and moat carp into mermaids, their wild fabrications have led many an adventurer to misfortune and abashment. Although these were but simple rumors, I would be remiss to overlook reports now coming in from all corners of the realm. Talk of Bombards has spread like wildfire, and for the first time in five years, the Adventurers' Guild has announced the return of the Moonfire Faire.

The Fallacious Festival Returns

Five long years have passed since the fall of Dalamud, and a new generation of adventurers has taken up arms in the absence of the Warriors of Light. But would they be so foolish as to run headlong into the proverbial oven that is the Moonfire Faire? There's no mistaking the Cascadier officers thronging the streets with their pamphlets, permeating the air with platitudes and empty promises. It may not be long before even you, dear reader, come face to face with these ardent recruiters.
Though times may change, the insatiable desire for exotic garments and gear shall ever persist among adventurers. A sense of yearning can be seen burning bright in their eyes at the mere mention of garbs they would receive in preparation for battle. The Adventurers' Guild is sure to entice adventurers to heed the call of the Cascadiers, but will it be enough? I can only hope the whimsical farce known as Moonfire Faire will both drive off this incendiary incursion and bolster our spirits.

Finally decided to go for it and made it through the first 3 group dungeons plus ifrit... holy hell the running back and forth leading up to the ifrit fight. One day I will have a mount. One day.

I thought the running around after Ifrit was the worst.  Having to jump from zone to zone to listen to those stupid speeches was painful.  I burned through nearly 1,500 Gil in just teleport/airship fees by the time it was all said and done.  Having a mount is nice, but they're not that much faster than sprinting...it just doesn't use up all your TP.  smile

I've run about 10 dungeons so far (all the required ones, plus I redid a couple), and have yet to receive a single item usable by my Marauder class.  I've picked up a few unique weapons and armor for other classes that I never plan on using (mostly Lancer and Thaum), but they are all listed as "unique", "unsellable", and "untradeable".

In my nearly 40 combined levels (28 MDR, 11 CONJ), I've never come across any unique gear in the wild....seems as though the only way to get unique stuff is through the dungeons.  However, if I can't turn around and sell unwanted/unusable loot in the AH, then why would I ever want to run the dungeons more than once?

Today's tip:  When you first join a Grand Company, grinding for seals through GC leves and FATEs can be a slow process.  Instead, check your hunting log...there will be a new tab specific to your GC.  Completing these entries gains you far more seals than leves or FATE's.  I didn't notice this for a long time...would have made getting my mount significantly easier.

heh.  I've been leaving my Return point in New Gridania so I can get to the Archers guild quickly, so I did the ceremony in Ul'dah first, spent 200 to go to Pirateland, and then used return to go to New Gridania.  Leading up to the primal fight I probably spent a bit teleporting back and forth between Drybone and Horizon to take a chocobo to Vesper Bay and then back to Drybone.  if they didn't have quick travel I would have probably quit there.

My quest for a copy of this game has taken on legendary lengths. I had to go visit my son at his military base near Ottawa, Ontario. About 6 hour drive each way from me. Along the way, while the wife was driving I was searching out possible vendors for the game...coming into a town, I'd google the shops there. Call, and get sorry bud, all sold out. I did this all the way there, and all the way back. I also live near a town with 120k population, nadda, nothing. My town of 18k, nadda, nothing..........I phoned stores near Toronto, about a 2hr drive. All sold out.

I don't think I've ever seen a MMO get this much attention so early on. And all this despite the horrible launch its had. There is not even an ETA on when digital downloads will begin again.
Obviously no one involved with the producing of this game, dared dream of a response like this.

So, the wait continues, which only makes me want it more....

Are they limiting copied to create hype?  I don't have sales figures but based on just general interest on gaming forums, there is very little buzz about this compared to other major launches.  Even just from my guild, there are 3 people playing this when normally there would be a lot more (most of us are mmo whores who play just about anything).  It seems like a niche title so I can't really explain why it's sold out everywhere.

Wow, thanks for that tip! I've been grinding FATEs for my mount and thinking how bad it sucked. I'm still 1000 shy so I'll try the hunting log tonight.

It may vary for your class, but I found the GC hunting log mobs fairly difficult to find.  While I intended to hunt them, I ended up just catching nearby FATEs at random and it was a lot faster.  YMMV.

In unrelated news, I did my first dungeon as a Scholar (healer role) last night - Haukke Manor.  Haven't played main healer in a group in a long long time, was a lot of fun.  Took us about 3 tries to take down the boss though.  I can't say for sure what we did differently the last time, but I did exchange my Heal pet for the Support pet.  She seems to heal just as good but she can also silence, so maybe that made the difference at the end.

BTW, thus far I've been soloing just fine as a Scholar.  I have a couple less offensive options, but I like the fairy pets better, and I can take stuff down just as fast.  Fairy power rocks!   Fabulous

I'm still on the first tier, and they haven't been terribly difficult so far.  I'm sure they get tougher in the 2nd and 3rd tiers though.

By way of comparison, running a level 20-24 FATE typically nets me 100-120 seals, while completing a hunting log entry (which takes about the same amount of time once you find the mobs) nets 400+.  After tracking a few of them down yesterday, I was able to get my mount and now have enough to get a GC promotion as well.   icon_cool

Now it's stupid question time.  Um...how do you get materia?   icon_redface  I know there was a quest ages ago that had something to do with it, but I kinda skimmed over it quickly and now I can't remember how/where you create them.  I've got all this equipment with empty slots...I'm sure I could be a lot more effective if I get some materia to drop in there.

you can convert old equipment that is 100% soulbound into materia.

Thanks.  Just did a little more reading up on it, and came across this:

"Before you can attach materia you must complete the "Waking the Spirit" quest given by F'hobhas at The Bonfire in Central Thanalan at 23,13. This requires you to be level 19 or above in Armorer, Blacksmith, Carpenter, Goldsmith, Leatherworker or Weaver."

Level 19 in a crafting profession?  Yeah, not sure that's gonna happen.

I found the best way to cut costs on teleporting is to set my home to one of the central towns (like Horizon) and then set all three cities to preferred locations.  I can "hearth" back to Horizon and teleport to any of the three towns for around 100-200gil each.  It also has the benefit of being able to ride back to at least one of the towns for basically nothing (I think Uldum is 15 gil to ride back from Horizon).  Should work well at least up to 30ish.

If you are going to do it, I would go with weaver. Tons of recipes for the first time recipe bonus and weaver makes crafting gear so it helps itself.  I have 18 woodworker and ~13 leatherworker, just starting weaver (10 or 11 now) because it was at the last city I hit. lots and lots of moko grass... I mean stupid amounts, but it is going pretty quickly. Goldsmith is also pretty nice for the gear you don't seem to get through quests early.

I have to say I find myself using the market more and more.  I just bought a new bow off of it for 85 gil, while the vendors want 2k+ for it.

So, after restarting a few characters, and replaying the game a bit and seeing how little difference there is in items and armor, and its the same places you run to over and over, and I'm done with the game.

I had some fun hours for the relatively low price, but its not something I want to spend money on paying for another month. The game is relatively fun and has some gorgeous sights, but its VERY linear and I dislike that a lot in my MMO's.

Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish!
