Hooked up with Soulchilde and got him into the corp with PRGMR and I. I'm still playing a couple hours each night and having fun. Oh, for the extended downtime mentioned before they gave us a instant skill point credit which is very cool. Hopefully they'll remove learning skills sometime in the near future and credit those as well . Welcome to the corp, Soulchilde! Yeah, I logged on late last night to do run some missions and saw that I had 100,00 skill points to allocate to something. Neato! Just a correction: My online toon is PrariusGeemarius. I mispelled my name in the post above. I'll go and correct it.

Just as I was getting a hankering to check out where EVE stands now, I get an e-mail for a welcome back kinda thing. I guess I'll give it a whirl when I get home. I have plenty of ISK, stuff, with ships spread all over...so I'll likely need to consolidate/liquidate it all and move to a new base of operations. I'd like to try and link up with you guys once I get my junk sorted out. Heh...just noticed that Ashab is only a couple jumps away from where I was setting up my new base of operations. I guess I'll see you fairly soon.

If you picked Minmatar as your race, we'll be able to run missions together, as I'm also Minmatar and I'm specializing in their missions and ships.

OK, wow. I just fired this up tonight to get my bearings, and talk about throwing a lot at the player out of the gate. I set up my my minmatur guy through the opening tutorial. It looks like a lot of depth in the game, but the initial learning curve is surprising.

I just started a few days ago and the tutorial took me 23 hours. The tutorial! If that is not an indication of a deep and complex game then I don't know what is. Its not like it was boring or drawn out either. I enjoyed every minute of it. I still feel like they barely introduced the various game systems. If it were any other game I'd probably be half way to the level cap after 23 hours.

It's the main reason why I've been digging the game for over 9 months so far. Yes, the learning curve is steep. This is isn't a game for casual or semi-casual gaming. Other MMOs just seem 'shallow' in comparison now that I've been playing EVE for a considerate amount of time.

Where is that picture...ahha! And don't get me wrong - I never saw this as a bad thing during my stint of playing EVE.

lately a MMO is lucky if I spend more than 23 hours with it. I know AoC I spent more than that, and WoW or WAR may have been close. it sounds like I'm going to be glad I only spent 2 bucks on this

I might do that. I got my two best friends into Eve. They are on trial accounts but with any luck they will stick around. We have talked about joining a corp. What is your corp about? Any wars or any particular career specialty? So far I've bought a Kestrel, loaded up with light missiles and am working on the newbie epic story arc. After that I have no idea what to do. I guess I'll just play it by ear until I get all of the second tier of learning skills trained up.

We're more focused on gathering resources for a POS, raising ISK, and just getting bigger ships. We're not a big warring corp (unless someone wardec us). The corp CEO and the officials are pretty good about running missions and helping you get ahead.

Would there be any problem bringing my two friends in with me? We all started together a few weeks ago and are still complete newbies, but I'm sure we could contribute some. Oh and both friends upgraded to full accounts so it looks like we will be sticking around for a while. Just yesterday I upgraded my frigate to a Caldari Caracal cruiser. Those level 1 missions are feeling really wimpy now. I am looking forward to trying out some level 2 missions.

I just keep leveling my character, which is one of the great things I like... The ability to level up offline.....

Reason no. 684 why EVE Online is cool: Pirates raid ship carrying 74 PLEXes!PLEX is a 30-day pilot license that allows you to play EVE for free for 30 days, more or less. 74 of these things amounted to 6 years of actual playtime and they were valued at $1295.00! ... I'm currently on break from EVE while my League Of Legends fever carries on. But I will be coming back this fall.

What complete and utter moron would actually carry that kind of goods in their hold in a tiny little ship? Seriously. EDIT: Apparently there's a bit more to it: Official CCP News on the attack clarifies the situation.
The player in question who lost the PLEX was actually involved in an ongoing WAR with the parties who destroyed their ship.
This means that, in practice, ANY TIME they are IN SPACE they can be ATTACKED by their ENEMIES in the WAR. Just to make this clear, they should NEVER EVER have been flying with TWENTY TWO BILLION isk in their hold. Not in a War. Not In A Kestrel (fitted with 2x Invuln I as its sole tank). Not In Jita. (home of suicide gankers, and where the two killers made several other LEGAL kills as part of their ongoing WARS).
It has to be pointed out that this was probably not an opportunistic attack on a vessel known to be carrying PLEX, this was most likely a target of opportunity in an area where many in Eve flock in order to participate in Jita's thriving market hub. You are actually wrong. The player in question was an alliance leader of over 100 players and the entire alliance wallet was wrapped up in these plexes. Basically, he was an idiot who destroyed his alliance in one INCREDIBLY stupid move.

Look us up. I'm on most nights. I've been working on skilling up survey skills as I've found a love for finding wormholes and hidden places. Also, the sleeper areas of wormholes can be quite lucrative. Level 4 missions are probably still better but this is more fun. I was on a 60 day plan to get a Golem but it's turned into more of a 90 day plan as I've gotten interested in other things on the wayside. However right now I've got a great little fleet and can do most anything I want: Osprey - My miner can 'almost' keep up with an exhumer which drives the exhumer guy i mine with crazy btw. Can hold 3 drones also to handle the rats so no guns needed. Cormorant - My awesome salvage ship. This gets used every day. Heron - Cloaking survey ship. Used to find and scout wormholes for cool stuff. Wormholes are 0.0 space so anyone can kill you without consequence so I cloaky survey to make sure the area is clear. Drake - level 3 mission runner and wormhole Sleeper site killer. Can crash level 3 missions and is great at the wormhole sites. Raven - Level 4 mission runner. I'm 1 skill from having my Raven fitted exactly how I want it but the training time on it is 7 days so I've been training other things 1st . This is a great ship for a bunch of different things but I've been using it mostly for running level 4 missions. Eventually this ship will be upgraded to a Golem but that's still about 60 days out . See you in game.

Doh! Hey at least it wasn't your Raven. I'm pretty much trying to follow the same path as you going from a Drake to a Raven. I've also got the same Mining-Osprey and Salvager Cormorant. I was blown away by the salvager ship. So easy to get together, such low skill reqs, and so much profit. The 10 mill I spent on it paid for itself in less than one day of mission running. I've got about a month of training left to get fully proficient at the Drake with T2 drones and all the missile support skills training up to a respectable level. That's when I'll start looking at a battleship. The Raven is the obvious choice, but I'm tempted to spend an extra month training up projectiles and cross training into Minmatar ships. The Typhoon has got to be the ugliest ship I have ever seen, but I'm dying to try one someday. Missiles, Artillary, and a drone bay twice the size of the Raven's, what's not to like about that? (well, except the training time!) Hopefully it won't be too long before I can tag along on some of these L4 and wormhole missions without being a liability to the fleet.

Yeah, it could have been a lot worse. Had about 50mil in the Drake, Got about 150 in the Raven . I'm going to have to redo how I handle wormholes. How I was handling it was that usually Selari and I would find the wormhole and then I'd go inside the hole in my cloaked scanner to see if there was anything good. If there was I'd grab my Drake and then we'd all go killing and handle it as a duo. That's going to have to change. Going to to have 3 people now. 2 do do the killing, mining, etc and 1 to sit as guard and look for ships in the area. Oh well.

It looks like a Drake is disposable enough to take risks in. About half the corp is flying them now, even the newer players. It won't be long before we could put together a pretty mean fleet for some harder wormholes and L5's. If only we had a player specialized in a Basilisk for shield support. The drake I'm flying now is fitted specifically for L3's and is undertanked and overpriced for anything else. Pretty soon I'll probably put together a cheaper tankier version so I can tag along on some more difficult content. I was just playing around with this build on EFT: [Drake] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Invulnerability Field II Invulnerability Field II Photon Scattering Field II Y-S8 Hydrocarbon I Afterburners Advanced 'Limos' Heavy Missile Bay I, Scourge Heavy Missile Advanced 'Limos' Heavy Missile Bay I, Scourge Heavy Missile Advanced 'Limos' Heavy Missile Bay I, Scourge Heavy Missile Advanced 'Limos' Heavy Missile Bay I, Scourge Heavy Missile Advanced 'Limos' Heavy Missile Bay I, Scourge Heavy Missile Advanced 'Limos' Heavy Missile Bay I, Scourge Heavy Missile Advanced 'Limos' Heavy Missile Bay I, Scourge Heavy Missile [empty high slot] Medium Core Defence Field Purger I Medium Core Defence Field Purger I Medium Core Defence Field Purger I Hobgoblin II x5

They are also about to release some very nice looking multi-monitor support. This is probably the first game I've played that really needs a second monitor for all the interface widgets.

Its been very entertaining so far even though we've pretty much just gotten our asses kicked. I was all prepared to throw a bunch of cheap ships at them when it was just one corp at war with us, but now that its three corps I am trying my best to stay out of the way. I think Grizz may have a surprise in store for them, but I'm not quite sure what it is. Mercs maybe? An alliance? The poor dude was still online late last night when I logged off so it must have been 4-5AM before he finally logged off.

Took advantage of the steam sale, still some folks running with the Grizzly25 corp?
Wasn't able to recover my old toon so restarted. Ouch, grabbing the learning skills again will be painful.
I'm ingame as Mohrduch.

They're going to do away with them in a future patch (supposed to be gotten rid of by the end of the year).

I am somewhat interested in trying this (tried it a long time ago but never got past 2 days of playing due to other stuff). I know little about the game so I am curious what doing away with the learning skills means for people starting out and the game overall.

I am somewhat interested in trying this (tried it a long time ago but never got past 2 days of playing due to other stuff). I know little about the game so I am curious what doing away with the learning skills means for people starting out and the game overall.
The way things work right now a new character would want to be spending 75% of their time on learning skills over the first month. Getting those learning skills out of the way allows them to learn skills faster after its done. It sucks because those learning skills don't help you play the game at all. They just make you learn other skills faster. Its much more fun to spend your time learning how to fly new ships or fit better equipment. After the change a new player will be learning useful skills much sooner and much faster. This has many advantages starting out. It gets you into better ships faster although having enough cash will quickly become a bottleneck. It helps new players become competitive in PvP much sooner. It lets players experiment with different career paths early on. The ONLY advantage of the current system with learning skills is that it keeps the pace slower at first while you're still trying to figure out the game. The learning skills are safe and easy picks while you learn about the game mechanics and figure out a long-term skill plan. After the change it will be even more overwhelming than it currently is.

Hmmmm. Sounds interesting. EVE is one of those games that intrigues me and I think I would like but I just do not think I want to devote the time people claim you need to give the game. I'll probably give it another go after the patch.

I got bored this weekend and installed the 14-day demo from Steam. I have to say, it's VERY polished and less daunting than I initially thought it would be. However, I can see there's quite a lot of depth I haven't been exposed to yet. Within my first hour of playing, I was asked to join a corp, but declined because I wanted to explore the initial stuff first (agents and the like). As of when I logged off last night, I now have just under 2.5 million ISK and a handful of ships (a couple I couldn't even fly yet due to lack of skill). Couple of close calls too (warped away just in time though).
Once I finish the agent stuff, I'll probably do some exploring. If I'm still not bored, I'll sign on for 3 months.
Anybody here still playing?
