Bucking the WoW thread trend..I wanted to see if any other CGers would be interested in trying to meet up on a common server for EQ2. As far as I know, there hasn't been a server list released yet so any consensus would have to happen on the 9th.

I have a friend who will be playing a scout and I will be playing a priest (defiler), both going ratonga so Freeport. It would be great to have a pre built base of people we could look up and group with.

Any interest?

Hey.  I'd be up for meeting up with you.  However, I'm not sure of the server names so far.  I'll probably making a Dark-Elf necro who could fit in with your group.

The server names popped out for a second, then went back into hiding. Not sure if they're accurate, but they were mostly zones from EQ1 (Unrest, Najena, Mismoore, Crushbone, Guk etc.) Maybe about a dozen.

I'd love to be on the same server as everyone else, though as I mentioned in the WoW thread, my time zone means that I'm at slaving away at work through most of the US weeknight prime time, and my weekend only corresponds to half of yours. Still, if there's a server nominated, I'll probably go for it as it's a good a method as any to choose slywink Might even get some play time with the rest of you, since everyone plays crazy hours when they first start out.

I've got three characters planned, at least one of which will be Freeportian (Erudian Inquisitor, Dark Elf Enchanter (haven't decided which), and Wood Elf Monk).

Ok server names are up at the official boards. Zinckiwi was correct, they are named after old EQ zones. Any thoughts on which one you all want to join?

I was thinking Najena.

Antonia Bayle ( I believe that is the name) is the roleplaying preferred server.  My guild is voting currently as to which server we are going to, hoping to end up on the rp preferred server.

I can't believe they finally marked one as 'roleplaying prefered'. Throughout beta they pretty much ignored any and all requests by us testers to put up a roleplaying server.

I wonder if they caved in and increased the 4 player per account limit...

I doubt the 4 player per account thing will change.  I just wish they would come out and give the exact reason why they are doing that.  Personnaly it doesn't affect me as I never play more than 3 characters.

The East Coast servers are as follows:

Befallen
Crushbone
Mistmoore
Permafrost
Runnyeye (UK preferred)

the rest, including the RP-preferred Antonia Bayle, are on the west coast. I get a 190 ping to the WC servers and a 250 to the EC ones. Definitely leaning in Antonia's direction now.

I was suprised, being on east coast myself how good of a ping I had to antonia bayle.  Before you decide do a tracert and ping to see the different ones.  I had 9 hops to both the east coast and west coast servers, so I am not too worried about it.

I believe the Wanderers are going with Mistmoore.  Thought I'd let everyone know as it may be fun to group together even if you don't wish to join us formally.

So they can sell extra slots in their first expansion. This seems to be SOE's new OP. Take away a feature considered standard in most mmorpgs and sell it as a "premium service".

I tried to go to the Wanderers website but it didn't load.  Is the guild represented in both the evil and good sides of EQ 2?

Thanks for the info zinckiwi.  I'm an Aussie and am also leaning towards Antonia, however I think many people will have the same idea (of joining the RP preferred server to avoid d00dizm) and so it will be massively crowded

Well I picked up my copy yesterday, the collectors edition DVD.  First impressions..... grr... my machine has Sonic Record Now on it.  After crashing 5 times halfway through the install I figured out that Sonic DLA was the culprit.  After turning that off the install went flawlessly.  The came signing up, again flawless... then I played.  Played for about 4 hours, no crashes, no lag, no hiccups... very smooth launch, although today is the true test as the masses get it.  Only thing I am pissed about really is that for some reason the name filter would not let me use my name of Arkon.

The guild will be evil aligned, so all those sorts of quests will only be evil, and the majority of the guild will be evil characters.  There's at least one or two people who are still staying on the good side, I believe though.  Also, myself and a few others are planning on starting good and doing the betrayal quest.

(Just to try to avoid any confusion, Wanderers are on Crushbone, not Mist)

In what seems to be a rapidly growing major release tradition, the site was down last night for awhile.  It's back up now though so you shouldn't have any trouble registering and saying hello.

The de facto Australiasian non-RP server, Aussie, appears to be Unrest. Unless there are character slot restrictions (i.e., 1) on Antonia though, that's where I'll play. I'd rather play on a crowded server than a ghost town one.

The Wanderers looking for more EQ2 players at all?  I'm soo tempted to get this game since I am a junkie for these things.

What races can be evil in this game?

the more the merrier. Unless you're a jerk! smile

Evil races.. .um um there's like 4 good, 4 evil, 4 neutral and 4 good/evil (no idea how that differs from neutral).

Evil characters can be dark elf, barbarian, ratonga, gnome, ogre, troll, iskar, kerra, half elf, ... most anything except wood elf, halfling and dwarf, I believe. The eq2 website lists this stuff more accurately than I do. smile

smile  I played with you gusy for a bit in DAoC.  Fun. You really like EQ 2 so far?   I checked out the Wanderers site and didn't see any EQ 2 forums, are they hidden?  It has been so long since I've logged on there I can't recall my username/password.

Should point out that any race can be evil (good-only races can still betray their city with a quest in the teens). A better question is what *classes* can be evil, which is more complicated (but a quick browse of the EQ2 web site will make things clear).

They've now decided to go with Najena (after an IRC chat I think, I wasnt involved).
