I felt like I was playing a TES game with the occasionally poorly-named NPC running by every once in a while.   I think I'm in on this one - it felt much better this go around, and it was far more stable to boot.  My biggest complaint was the interface for crafting as it's not just unintuitive but counter-intuitive.   They have time to fix that though, and hopefully some of my feedback helps.

On the subscription front, I don't bat an eye at 15 a month when there is this much content.  The Free to Play model seems to attract the absolute WORST players, and I'd rather avoid them altogether.

On the "why isn't the client free" side of things, I wouldn't expect them to give away years of programming time.  If you believe what they've done is worthwhile, you pony up to experience it, otherwise we are back to that f2p model.  Free to Play has become nuisance-ware.  Want a bank slot?  Money.  Want to be able to have more than pocket change?  Money?  And the worst of them - want to rearrange your interface in SWTOR?  Money.  I'd rather pay a subscription so the devs can create more content than have them nag me for nickels and dimes until I quit out of frustration.  Am I alone on this?

You are not alone in this in any way. I'm sick and tired of the F2P model, and thats what I hear from a lot of people. The thing is, we may be the minority in this case - the oldschool gamers with money to spend. LOL is currently one of the game with the biggest income, and judging by anecdotal evidence, its a younger persons game where kids from my daugthers school play it and get their parent to spend money on it as well.

Subscription based games with a high entry fee are harder to justify to parents, so the question probably is - Are there enough oldschool gamers interested in these games to sustain them?

I agree with pretty much all you said about sub based vs FTP. KD.  The reason I feel that this is headed for FTP, eventually is because I just dont see the average market sustaining a $15 per month game any longer.  For my self, frankly, if the content is advanced and maintained and you play the game a lot while subscribed, its worth the price.  Unfortunately, I think the price point is too high for the average gamer.  I would love to see a game come out and try to run a $5 per month subscription and do away with the vast majority of FTP conventions. Cosmetic micro transactions dont bother me a bit, they can make their extra cash there. like WoW does. A full featured quality game could likely maintain a $5 per month sub fee, remain financially viable and avoid the negatives of the FTP model. But for better or worse, it seems that the market had decided that the standard old school $15 per month is too much.

I consider "No Free to Play (F2P) elements" a bullet point in the pro's column. Hell, that's a selling feature in and of itself and should be plastered on the front of the box.

"All required parts contained within" would be an alternative slogan. Tongue

Thats actually pretty damn good! I just doubt any MMO's will go for it these days. I'm pretty sure ESO will featuer an in-game shop of sorts as well.

I'm out currently...  I haven't signed up for betas which is a first for me as I like to test these games, but I don't think I can invest into another MMO especially with the guys I normally play with.  We're not called The Wanderers for nothing...

Anyway, unless the forum effect for this is strong I will be skipping or I might pick up on the cheap like I did Defiance.  The only thing this intrigues me is the three way factional warfare and while many of us have fond memories of DAoC I also remember being steam rolled by the over-whelming Albion Zerg.  If they can't figure outa way  to balance fights this game will fail especially if one faction becomes dominant

It happen in DAoC,  Warhammer & WoW and it will happen here too  While WoW is still around battleground were mostly empty until Blizaard started doing ranked fights by iLevel, PVP Gear and PvE Gear.  No one likes to constantly lose

Yes.  icon_lol

Just kidding, but it does seem in terms of MMO publishers, the vast majority have long given up on monthly subscription as their foundation. With me, pretty much every MMO I enjoyed for a decent amount of time and then went F2P, my interest was already dead at that point along with the interest of pals (here or elsewhere) that I had enjoyed playing with. That might include City of Heroes, LOTRO, Age of Conan, STO and SWTOR (I did enjoy about 2+month return to SWTOR early last summer that convinced me to re-up but I recently recanceled my sub).

imho for most it's just what a monthly fee represents at the end of the year. You end up having to ask yourself about $50-$60 for the client software and $180 in annual fees -- it becomes, "Did I get $230+ of entertainment out of this? Do I have enough free time to enjoy this game to feel like I'm getting that much entertainment?" Honestly I have a pretty boring life (my cat would agree  icon_smile), but even so, these days I just can't bring myself to sink the amount of time in MMOs as I did 5-10 years ago. Back then I did time sink MMOs, and didn't blanche at the monthly fee at all -- I had so much fun, made new pals, felt it was worth the investment. Today, I just don't feel up to investing the time consistently enough anymore.

As for the nickel/dime stuff, yeah, on my return last May-June to SWTOR, the F2P limitations exasperated me right away. Though I liked the f2P option as far as dabbling back in the game and figuring out if I could still enjoy it. It didn't last (Marvel Heroes and other games stole away my time last summer), but I had some re-visit fun at least. icon_smile

As far as ESO, it's on my radar screen just cause a couple pals in beta test seem very fond of it. My gaming interests are eccentric, to be kind, so who knows if I'd feel the same way?  icon_smile

Saw a news item that Elder Scrolls Online got an M rating and Bethesda refuses to make cuts that would get it a T rating, according to Bethesda's Facebook page.

Elder Scrolls Online Rated M; Bethesda Won't Compromise
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/bethesda-esrb-elder-scrolls-online-mmorpg,25845.html
Quote
"While we may disagree with the ESRB's determination, we do not plan to challenge the rating, and we are unwilling to change the game's content to achieve a different rating. The game we have created is the one we want our fans to be able to play," reads the company's Facebook page.
...
"As a result of the ESRB rating, we are in the process of promptly updating everything with the required rating and age gates, including game trailers, web sites, and ads. Thanks for your understanding. We can't wait to welcome players into The Elder Scrolls Online soon," the company adds.
Now I don't get the impression Bethesda is trying to "out jiggle" and "out decapitate" Age of Conan.  Bring your own! It sounded like - from some news coverage trying to look more specifically at what the problems with ESRB might be - the issue was more about some bare skin in certain scenes (in some cases cutscenes, and maybe those would be a pain to re-shoot), and some "suggested drug use" involving smoking etc.  icon_razz

(FWIW-Oblivion regular version was rated T,same as Morrowind)

Also, with this being a MMO it would be better IMO to keep the younger people away if its a Pay Monthly thing(Although kids are more loaded than me these days finger)

I think we already knew this,or expected it

PS+ NOT needed for ESO,however Xbox Live Gold IS needed to play it
Gamespot

It says in the link that Bethesda are pushing Microsoft to not need XBLG for the game.....Final Fantasy 11 did not need XBLG(and maybe Phantasy Star Online as well),and i don't think MS was all that happy about it actually,as IIRC they did not let FF14 come to the xbox because of this little argument

I will have both XBLG and PS+ anyway, but it would be nice for MS to let their guard down a little when it concerns XBLG,the more players for it the better seen as though Xb1 and PS4 Players will be playing on their own separately

Beta is back up Friday. The re-invite said they want to stress the servers and break them if possible. I'm sure the million or so who haven't beta tested yet would love to help out. Friday to Monday, with all the characters and items from last test still in tact.

Well they got what they wanted. I've been knocking on the door all day with queue times around 2 hrs..But more often than not it "times out" before I get in. Played some yesterday. The less than 4 months to the release will be needed, every single minute of it.
Its in the potential slot at the moment.
Not sure I like the combat.
I don't like the over all feel of the atmosphere. Its missing something at the moment.
But if two things are present in Spades when its released the rest I can let slide.

For this MMO I want some well thought out exploring and rewards for those who want to dig deep into it.
and what most people love about Elder Scrolls, the story telling, and interesting characters.

If those two aspects of gameplay are done great, I will be a subber for a long time.

Well, I find the exploring to be one of the best aspects to the game so far.  I spent 2 whole beta sessions just on the first island.  So many things to discover, from documents (that often give you level ups in a skill), to random chests, to harvesting materials (including hunting certain critters that have materials you need).  That being said, I am hoping that some reason to party becomes apparent in the later game.

Just in case you didn't know this - SF is more or less dead. They just left the government now, and several of their key party members have left for the Socialist Party instead (Whom the Prime Minister is a part of). It will take a long time for them to get back on their feet, if ever!

Also, bring-a-friend will be an option this coming test.

Down to the nitty gritty. Looking forward to Sunday and the opening of the flood gates.
Pre-purchase gets you a 5 day head start. Considering the numbers being thrown around,
having 5 days to "get out of Dodge", will be worth it.

Although I imagine a ton of folks pre-purchased as well.
Either way, Im chomping at the bit to sink my teeth into a valid AAA MMORPG.
May it never become free to play. Amen!
