Not saying that was the case here, but I've certainly seen in before.
yeah I know exactly what you mean,  it seems more and more if you arent a cheerleader, you are a potential trouble maker and put a target on your back.  ANd in these tough financial times, people cant afford to be labeled "trouble makers".  Easier to say  "thats looks great"  "awesome""man thats great" and keep your real opinion to yourself.

Quote
The dev seems to be taking the attitude that critics don't "get" the game (kind of like when a summer movie gets horrible reviews but still makes $250 million at the box office).
not likely players are panning it as well.  This game has no legs. Its boring, confusing, unfair, etc etc .    I mean there is some potential here but they totally have blown it in IMHO.

Games need to be
simple as to being easy to understand the story arc and what are suppose to do,
Fun, they need to be fun. If you cant jump into a game and have fun within 2 minutes, game is poorly designed imho.
Dynamic, make the players actions count in various ways.
Immersive, make the game immersive, payers have to care on some level about their avatars and their team.
Fair, the playing field needs to be level between all players

its not impossible, but developers seem to woory more about other crap then the most important stuff, the design itself.

Count me in the "weirdo" group who likes this game.  I sit there playing it, grumbling about the blatant issues, but I still have a ton of fun. I actually look forward to playing which is rare for me in any MMO since EQ1. It's something about the chase, and trying to escape.  I love it.  I have always wanted PvP in a game to actively involves hunting down a certain person or group of people and making them pay.  APB finally does that for me.  Yes, the controls and the bugs get on my nerves, but I forget about them in the heat of the chase.  So I am still having fun and if they fix what they say they will, then APB will be a great game all around.

I have received this game for review and have started an Enforcer character today.  I'll have 50 hours to play and write up my thoughts.

I am taking everything into consideration:  Installation, account sign-up, character creation, and gameplay.

Is there an FPS monitor in APB at all?  I'd like to see exactly what kind of frame rate I'm getting in the game with full details.

You can always install the free version of FRAPS, which is generally quite accurate as long as you aren't doing any screenshots or video capture.

I look forward to your review.  I really wanted to like this one and I have hopes that they can improve some things with the recent and upcoming patches.

I thought there was, check the controls configuration in game.

yep, there is.  It's /fps

It looks like the FPS is capped at 60.  I'm fine with that.

I got your email with the buddy key.  It contains the key and various links to download the client and register.  All the links are dead and do not work though.  Something very similar happened when I tried to join the beta.  I guess I should take that as a sign.  Oh-well, thanks anyhow.

I'm not surprised, they aren't super professional. Just give them a bit they will get those links up and running.

Hmm, I might want to try out one of those buddy keys to see what has changed.  Have the recent patches improved the game noticeably for somebody who wasn't all that into the beta?

I did finally get it up and running after some annoyances.  It was pretty fun but I seem to suck at it smile.  Also, not seeing a ton of depth but I only played for a few hours.  That's my 10 second review.  I could be tempted to pick up the full version but not until it hits a much lower price point.

Yeah, I think I'll be waiting on trying this one out now...

The good news is that if they are moving development of Project MyWorld to Boulder there will at least be one other game company in the area.

And they're back up. On the flip side, here's a list of what they're working on for the next major patch. Talk about seemingly starting over.

Well, I had fun at the beginning of this game when everyone was on equal ground.  Now, since I play casually I am so far behind the fun is gone.  The problem is, I am out playing my opponents but with all of their upgrades I can never actually kill them.  My full clip won't kill them and I know I am connecting almost every shot, but they turn around and kill me in 2 seconds.  I lost every mission I played this week.  The first couple of weeks of the game I won 90% of them.  So, I am pretty much done with APB.  Great concept, poor execution.

Better write it quick, as APB is as dead as dead can be without actually being dead.

Someday devs will learn that spending zillions of dollars on MMOs with very nichey appeal isn't probably the path to, well remaining solvent, much less thriving.  disgust

If it was a better game I don't think it would have been all that nichey.

Fixed that for ya.  slywink

J/K...actually, I think this game had a serious uphill battle as the premise doesn't lend itself to being very compelling.  It's like COH versus COV without superpowers.

imho, vehicular MMOs by definition are Nichey. That doesn't stop me from trying them or liking them -- I did buy Auto Assault for $8.88 and played it a while before its demise. I just think if you spend a lot of money developing a vehicular MMO, you pretty much know you're not going to get a big monthly fee-paying playerbase. So you either better find a F2P model that makes financial sense, or... keep your resume handy.  icon_razz

I wouldn't call APB a vehicular MMO. A persistent shooter that happens to have vehicles maybe. Vehicles certainly aren't the focus like Auto Assault.

Yeah, I would equate APB more to something like Battlefield Bad Company 2 and not Auto Assault.  Unfortunately it did most things worse than BFBC2 and games like it, and it did it while trying to charge an hourly/monthly rate.
