*The offer is only valid if you sign up a new Anarchy Online account between the 15th of December 2004 and 15th of January 2005. You can play free of charge until 1/1 2006. Should Funcom deem that a too high-increase in server load or other unforeseen events will lessen the experience for existing players the offer will be terminated at our discretion. The free version does not include access to any of the three expansion packs. Should you wish to upgrade to any of the expansion packs monthly subscription and client fees will be added.

Sure, you get a year free, but if you want to upgrade to any of the expansions it'll cost ya.  You can download the original version for free of the games site.

So, was this one any good?  For free I might take the time to download it.

i've had a boxed copy of the original AO sitting in my closet for a while after it was given to me by a friend.  i had no interest in it simply because of the monthly fees involved.  this makes it tempting to load up and see what it's like though.  i've actually never tried a MMORPG before...

I used to play AO. I wonder if I reopened my old account if it would be free? Miss my sniper and TK

Yeah, I was wondering too, since I had this nice pimped out Fixer who had all his big implants in (at 150) his maxxed weapon, and scared people...

I imagine 90% of thier current subscribers have all the expansions and as I  understand it those are still charged a monthly fee.

Seems like a good way to get some new blood into the game without sacrificing too much.

Oh I misunderstood.  I though that AO was free period, even for those that had bought the expansions.  Well, without the expansions though the game is kinda crappy...
