Without actually seeing the skill sets or feat trees for the various classes it's hard to say at this point, however my initial inclination is the Bear Shaman.

Oddly enough even though I've been in beta and have played almost every class, I still can't decide!!!
If I go tank, I'm going Conqueror, if I go DPS I'm going Barbarian (Assassin is a better DPS class, but I've been wanting to play a 'true' barbarian for years), if I go healer I'm going Bear Shaman, and if I go mage it's a toss up between Demonologist and Herald of Xotli.
I think I just need to sit down and really pore over the skill trees, which is something I haven't done yet.

I'm usually into archer types (my highest, 45, in LOTORO is an archer), but the footage I've seen suggests you have to be in first person view to fire. Anyone know if that's the case? (I'm mostly a third person guy due to motion sickness issues). Addendum: Thanks for that first post link. I looked up the Ranger interview, and it mentioned the first-person firing mode is available but optional: http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/21688It also mentions that mounted archery is limited to basic directional attacks.

Assassin, Set and Necro
I'm going to hold off on the Ranger for now, going to roll Guardian or Conquerer for sure. And since I'll be playing in the server you're on, it should be a nice compliment to your choices.

Assasin - especially in a PvP enviroment - it sounds exactly like the kind of class everyone else hates and fears!
Conqurer sounds fun, especially from an RP viewpoint.
hmm, I wonder what class Conan is ;-)

Just be aware that the Barbarian class as implemented in the game is not what many people think of when they watch the movies. This is a 'true' barbarian - only light or cloth armor. He's a DPS machine, not a tank, and he is much closer to a rogue than Arnold Schwarzenegger running around with a broadsword. I.E. He's the book version of Conan.
I have an idea that those who don't understand the literary background are going to roll up Barbarians and bitch endlessly about how often they die.

Conan really didn't wear armor until much later IIRC. He actually started out as a Thief. Not sure if anyone ever tried to "D&D" him, but i'd say he was a multi-class thief, barbarian, fighter

Unless he kept his levels all really close to one another. [/geek off]

Barbarian
I prefer ranged oriented characters, and every time I make one and play it I just regret not making a tank role character.
Not this time. Melee from the word go.

If you're looking for a tank melee, the barbarian ain't your guy. They're dps melee.

I have no intention of getting the game at release, but when I do eventually get it, I will choose the Priest of Mitra. According to my friend YK, that is the closest I'm going to get to a master of Crowd Control - which is kinda' my niche in MMO's.

The Dark Templar can be pretty nasty (this is the character I'm playing in beta now). I've got her feats very DPS and lifetap oriented, so while she's whittling away foes she's sucking life like there's no tomorrow. It's rare that I die unless I'm gang-raped by a mob. I'm to the point now where I can take on 3 mobs of my level at once and survive, which is pretty good compared to a lot of other classes. It's actually more fun a class than I first thought it would be.

I'm only 30 so I don't have a lot of feats, but basically I went right down the left-hand side of the Depravity line. That gave me some DPS perks on my one-handed weapons, and the bonuses to my A Soul For Our Feast and Leech Life combos. There are probably more life-tap oriented feats in the Desecration line, but I wanted the DPS for soloing faster.
I probably won't be playing much more until release, however. The last patch they did made the game practically unplayable for me - I get booted from the server every 10 minutes or so, and get rolled back to the last quest hub I was in. Kind of hard to make progress when some of the quest goals are a 10-minute trek from the quest hub to begin with.

There is for beta, and currently it's free (there is an NPC that does respecs). I'm assuming respecs will stay in, but with some cost attached when the game goes live.

No one wants to play Conqueror cause they heard how gimped they are in beta? Ok fine, I'll be the masochist and change my vote from BS to Conqueror. At least I don't have to worry about the nerf bat.
Also, no demonologist? I thought high dps casters were always popular.

I heard the exact opposite, that Conquererors were one of the least gimped classes! Guess it just goes to show how varying the opinions are when it comes to class balance.

Check out the Conqueror class forum. Every class has a 1 line feedback thread. There is hardly any positive comment in there for Conqueror (compare this to same BS or Guardian thread for example, every other post is "We wtfpwn all!"). A Dev actually posted that they will ignore all conqueror threads because it's all just people flaming. Finally someone posted some constructive criticism and the devs did eventually respond saying that changes are coming for the class.

Ah, I haven't looked at them lately. When I first started beta, it was all "Conquerors rule!" and they were one of the most popular classes on the server.
