maybe the next expansion pack? or maybe they're just going to give players instant access to every single thing people have worked hard for over the years, just to watch the hardcore players melt down

Considering that The Great Sundering is also known as the Cataclysm, and there's even Cataclysm armor in the game... yeah, I'll say it's the next WoW expansion.

I looked that up, and it really reminds me of Dragonlance.

I predicted earlier that the next expansion would take place in the Malestrom. It makes perfect sense. First, it takes place back in Azeroth, which has become a bit abandoned since the 1st expansion. Queen Azshara is one of the most powerful figures in WoW lore (perhaps the most powerful mage ever), so she'd make a good boss. For mounts, you'd have swimming mounts (and swimming skill). Nazjatar is the naga city and would make a setting for quests since many have been held in the countryside. Illidan could also come back into the story since that's also his origin.
Sweet!

I just pray its not an underwater zone. God how I hate those. Swimming sucks. Managing water-breathing sucks. Fighting under water sucks.

I think they'll find a way around much of that. I imagine swimming will come into play, but not in every place and swimming mounts will help. Breathing underwater will be made easier - heck, virtually every quest in WotLK gave you some breathing underwater item.

Maybe a swimming mount that lets you breathe under water. I think a swimming raid fight would be interesting considering it's never been done. The closest thing I guess was Kael which had flying elements to the fight that felt like swimming. There is alot they could do with the Maelstrom, lost islands, races, the Sundering, etc.

I'm too hoping that it's going to be in the Maelstrom, and focused on underwater gameplay. Never seen that in an MMO before and know Blizzard would do a fantastic job with it.

I know that the original Everquest had an underwater zone (and it was a raid zone too - or at least a full group one). It didn't work that well though from what I remember, as mobs had serious pathfinding issues, and the aggro range was just nuts when in a fully 3D space. Plus, drowning sucked (as there were no permanent items out there - only spells or items that would last for so long).

Another MMO that gave it a shot was DaoC in their Trials of Atlantis expansion. Again, it was horrible. Besides the slow movement (which is not fun in the least) there were things like limited view distances, horrible sound effects (the constant swish-swish of swimming combined with the muffled effect to simulate water). Trust me, underwater adventuring sucks. You might think it would be fun but trust me, it will be horrible and boring.

The second expansion went back to Azeroth. Ale True, you literalist scum. But Northrend is so far removed from any of the original game that it feels as isolated as Outland. To clarify what I meant to say is hopefully the next expansion returns the player base to the core starting areas so that they're repopulated again.

Heh, I just set foot in Northrend for the first time yesterday.
Enjoy! I first set foot in it about two weeks ago and have been very happy with the ditrection that they took as far as getting some more interesting quests into the game than "kill 10x" and "bring me 5 livers". There's still stuff along that lines but usually with an interesting twist and then there's quite a lot of stuff that, as far as MMO's go, is pretty novel. I've ridden a dragon into a dragon battle, gone undercover as a murloc, bombed pirate ships from a zeppelin, fended off pursuers in a horseback chase with molotov cocktails and distilled tropical fruit into moonshine. Quite a lot of fun and laughs in Northrend.

All of the new areas also got a huge graphical upgrade compared to the original lands so it's much nicer looking as well.

With the latest update (in December), there is inter-server matchups for all of the dungeons. You don't have to worry about soloing ever again, because there are always people to group with.

I've been playing wow with a friend, have a priest up to 40. I also have a hunter to 21. The dungeon finder is pretty nice, however it takes out the 'adventure' from the game. For me thats fine, I've played the low level stuff before & want to try the end game. Now, that said this takes pugs to a whole new level. If you are a tank or healer (and are decent) then you know you'll at least have a decent tank or healer. The opposite class player will invariably suck 80% of the time. Half of that time he (or she) will be so bad you can't continue the dungeon. If you play a DPS class, jack this to 90% because you'll have both a tank and a healer who suck. Add into this that many of these people don't speak English and you take PUGs to a whole new level. If you do this you'll want a group still to offset this. If there are two of you, one needs to be a tank the other a healer.

You remind me of some of my funniest moments in WoW. Being a pug for that instance off of the Crossroads and having a lower level rogue who begged to come and then just ran and attacked things with no notice. Not only did he aggro at long range but he banzai'ed everything that moved....for about 7 times in a row even though we were all telling him what he should not be doing. I think i was a druid and he was incensed that I could not rez him on demand.
