http://figureprints.com/

The page will put up an underconstruction block, but you can just refresh and hit some of the example shots.

How much money do you think this will make for Blizzard? Oops, I mean Activision Blizzard.

Only part I don't like is that you can only equip your miniature with stuff you have, so you can't get one of your character in T6 if you don't have it.

You can always print someone else's character.

Yeah, I guess you could although that would seem a tad intrusive since you can see what they have in their inventory. Plus, it puts a plaque on it with the name of the character. Might can opt to not have that though.

That looks really impressive. Unfortunately, if they did it to me, I'd have nothing but a bunch of lower level characters.

Still would love to have one around. Anybody want to place bets on how long the server holds up once it goes live in a few days? biggrin

If this came out two years ago, imagine how many LEEEROY JENKINS! prints they'd have.

It's cool (coming from a non-WoWer even).  icon_cool

The manufacturing tech might be like a 3-D "laser sculptor" I got to see and write about a bit while touring a prototyping company in Virginia some years ago (albeit more mundane stuff in their case):
http://www.protoprod.com/pages/capabilities/rapid-prototyping/index.htm

It was pretty amazing the things it could create from plastic, wax and other malleable materials. Just about anything they created in the software, the laser would etch into solid 3-D form.

I would've loved something like this for City of Heroes myself. Maybe they can branch into other games (if the demand supports it). smile

I forsee an insane demand for these from the WoW community, even at $100 a pop.

Well, the site has gone live, giving you the chance to play with the designer and look at a few shots of other finished figures.

As I said before - this looks really, really cool, and I'm tempted to enter and see if I get lucky.

Interesting interview over at WoW Insider.

BTW, did anyone see that Dell WoW laptop?  I was reading the specs, and wondering why the hell it has a PhysX card... since WoW doesn't use PhysX, at all, for anything.  And likely never will.  Bragging rights, I guess?

Because they were bribed to put in said (crappy) card perhaps?

But yeah, you bring up a very good point. WoW certainly doesn't support PhysX. They'd have to play CoX instead to get PhysX support in a MMO. biggrin

maybe they'll patch it in.  I don't remember CoH having that support back when it came out.

I can't even see what PhysX support could bring to WoW.  In fact, I don't even know what it would bring to CoX.

Well, CoX has a nifty particle system for when you shoot off fireballs, or for when you blow up mechanized units (as they explode into shards of debris). The funny part? If you have a decent enough of a processor, you can enable full PhysX effects without having a card installed. It's a little absurd at times (the flying probe things explode into more pieces than the thing actually started with), but it's sure as heck pretty. And throwing people around like ragdolls NEVER gets old. biggrin
