BrianE, it depends entirely on how you want to play the game. If you can't get in on mining ops you could mine independently and donate ore or profits to the corp. Or do any of the other things like ratting and donate ISK. Or you could train up to fulfil a specialist role like research and help improve our BPOs. The sky's the limit! But don't feel compelled to do any of those things, the corp is mainly for casual players so even if you're only contributing via corporation taxes, it helps!

Time for some lowsec mining guys! We need haulers, miners and most definitely some security! Some time today I will try to find a promising spot and see about renting an office. I found one seven hops from Amygnon which looks promising, lots of belts with hardly any other pilots. However I don't have the best nose for this kind of thing so if anyone wants to have a look, please feel free.
I will tentatively suggest Saturday evening (Eve time) for the op but it depends how quickly we can organise ourselves. Questions? Objections?

I'll be in-game late Saturday night (around 11p, New York time) when I get home from the Islander game. If there's anything I can do "post-op" to help out please let me know!

If it turns out anything like our little mining mission last year in low-sec (don't remember if Huw was there, but I'm sure Skylander, Arkon, Reemul(?) were) - Security is a must, must, must. I remember I was the hauler, and missed all the fun, but at least I got to read about it in the chat screen, and our security team's first priority was making sure I got away with the goods.
If I remember correctly, we just pummelled our assailers. Fun stuff.

Yessir.
We had two bigger ships (Skylander might have been in his brand new Minmatar battleship, my memory is poor; and one other big ship. Arkon tackled. I think we had someone in a Caldari missile cruiser and one other frigate pilot on security detail. I still remember Skylander predicting the attack, as he is pretty intuitive on reading scanners, and watching who comes into the sectors. He called it though, even down to guessing correctly that they had covertops ships scanning our security detail before they decided to jump us, if memory serves.
He really had everyone totally prepared for them when they hit. It was fun, and I think it was Arkon's first time trying to tackle, and he did great. Talk about trial by fire.

I'll be there if I know what time it is. But if it's low sec I won't be using my Hulk I lost 1 100mil isk ship this week already. I'll fit up one of the big mining barges. And if know the system we'll be using could you mail me, I'd like to get Wil Fa in a station in system so he can fly a cloaked Hound over to belt just in case.

Well, the system I've been looking at is called Aeschee and it's on the Verge Vendor/Essence border. It's a 0.2 system. Office rental is between 2.5-5 mill depending on which of the two stations we pick. If nobody finds a better system before then, that will be the one. We also need to decide how we're going to transport the bounty back to Amygnon.
Since Barrakketh is out, do we have any other expert refiners who can refine the ore before it's moved?
As for a time, well, what time can you all make it? Myself, it'll be around 21:00 Eve time but if some of you can make it online before that please feel free to get started.

Did you happen to take a peek at the belts? If so, what type of rats were there? I'm pretty sure that in a .2 there's a good chance of encountering cruiser class npcs....that'll will make for good ratting for the Sec Detail. Hopefully I'll be back in by then.

As for getting the ore out it just shows what a crazy game eve is that Max D. could get in a Blockade Runner in a few hours days but would take weeks to get the cov ops cloak. While Wil F. has the cloak but would take weeks to get the ship.

Just now in-game a few of the more experienced of us expressed grave doubts about mining in lowsec. They say we'll need strong cruiser support just for the rats, let alone any pirates who may show up. So if we don't go there, we're limited when it comes to ores. Kernite is decent for Mexallon but is only available (highsec) in Amarr/Caldari space; Plagioclase also yields Mexallon but in lower quantities. We won't get much Nocxium in Gallente space but we will get some, and Megacyte....well, we'll just have to buy it.
In which case, maybe Colonp at OO was right about starting a bit smaller. Buying Megacyte to build Catalysts wouldn't hurt the wallet much, and everything else we can bring in in highsec Gallente space, I think. Basically, until we either venture into lowsec or set up bases in other empires, we're going to be severely curtailed as to what we can profitably produce.
I need your thoughts please, guys!

Considering current market trends in minerals. Kernite is your money maker in high sec space. (Next to Trit of course!) after that, the next ore REALLY worth going for is Gneiss which is only 0.2 and below. My recommendation is to find a nice quiet system 0.6 or 0.5 with kernite available and setup a mining operation. As for production, I can't really comment there. I know Cruiser/Destroyers are going to sell pretty well in region right now with FW and Missioning going on. I'll throw my mining lasers to any system you want to go to. But I'm not quite ready to fly my Hulk into lowsec space since I can't afford to replace it yet.

If you want to go to a low sec system I suggest scouting around. Spend an hour or two and travel around the system, how many people are in there usually? How many gate camps are there? Do they have good ships IE Hictors or other things that can truly nuke you. What are the sizes of the corps that are in there, do they seem to just be mission runners/industrial corps, or are they pirates. Scouting and information are your most powerful tools. If you want, I finally got my carrier out of 0.0 so really I can just my carrier into whatever low sec system you want and just assign all my fighters to someone and be a mobile base. With the fighters any rat won't be a problem and the other people can focus on PVP defense. I need to head up north anyway. In any case, scouting and getting an understanding of the area really helps when you are going to try to mine or do any extended operation in dangerous area. But a gank squad can go anywhere and people love to grief. And Lockdown, I think it was me and Tareek in battlecruisers. A guy wandered by in a HAC and we took him down pretty quick. Still not sure why he attacked but we got some good tech 2 stuff off of him .

With enough warning on mining ops i can fly support, flying a Battlecruiser (harbringer) at the moment but can also fly a Maller well as well. I can also use medium scout drones so can bring some firepower along, just need a bit of notice on times so i can confirm with her in doors that i am free.
I am free this weekend so let me know.

Well, the general feeling at the moment seems to be people want to mine, but that maybe we should stick to highsec space for a bit. So as far as I'm concerned there is a mining op tomorrow night, either in Amygnon or somewhere close by.....? I'll be there and available tomorrow night anyway.

I wont be able to make it. I'm going to be away for Saturday. I will have my laptop, but no EVE on it yet... I don't even have a real ship yet, so no biggie...
As a suggestion, why not invest in some heavy hitter ships to provide protection for the mining ops? Or is a matter of not having anyone qualified to fly them?

Punisher, yeah I don't think many people in the corp can fly cruisers yet, and to mine in lowsec we could well need even bigger ships than that.
I don't think I'll be online until tonight, so if anyone gets the chance, can you scout the belts in Amygnon and just make sure there's enough for an op?

Well now, that was a nice little Op last night. I think we completely consumed no less than three entire belts..save for just a few scraps in each. I think at our max we had three barges, 3 other ships mining, 2 on security, and 2 hauling. When I offloaded the last run to Andon's barge...I took a little picture. That is a heap of ore all...well done!

Anyone up for mining tonight? Amygnon still has plenty of ore but if anyone wants to mine elsewhere that's fine. As usual, just gather together whenever there are enough people online and willing. I should show up between 2100 and 2130 Eve time.

I was wondering if your probing ability allows you to see 'roid belts? If so...Wormhole belts? Mega money?
Scanning can allow you to find belts, yes. A good scanning guide is a must... especially since it looks like they've changed the way it works since I left the game. But, in generally, if you can find an undiscovered belt, the rewards are... nice. For one thing, you can find minerals that wouldn't necessarily show up normally in the security level of the area you're in. Also, MOST miners stick to the public belts, and don't scan, etc. Sometimes you'll find people selling locations for exploration stuffs. Your mileage will vary, and you may get scammed. 'Sure, I've got a book for a nice set of rocks... 100M and it's all yours...'... and it'd be worth the hundred million, IF he hadn't sold it to some 50 other dudes over the last couple of days :/ And/or it's just a bookmark to some empty space somewhere. If you want to go the exploration route, it'd be good to have a team of scanners to spread out and find stuff... especially in highsec, where it's harder to find. Atomic

I've scanned down one mining site with Wil Fa but it was already hit I got a few high end roids out of it. I've been in a wormhole it's pretty empty over there. Once in wormhole space you would need to scan down sites. I would be willing to put up a 100mil to build a wormhole fleet. Would need a cheap scanner ship some combat ships, sav/mining/hauler. The risk of losing it all would be high (it's 0.0) over there and the sleeper npc's are hard. But it might be a fun op. I've still got 3 days till science V and hacking.

We should try to set up a 'For Profit' op sometime this week...I think everyone could use a bit of padding in the ol' wallet. Where really doesn't matter...but I figure if we get out there and spend a couple hours destroying a few belts, we'd all come out a few mil for the better.

Nice idea, if there's interest let's do it. I enjoy our mining ops; they're fun, they're learning experiences and they're a chance for us to get together and discuss strategies for the corp.
WW - how would that work? Are there places we can store any mined ore, or would it all have to be hauled back to Amygnon? And if so, wouldn't it have to be hauled through 0.0 systems?

I was thinking more of just going in to rat. Yeah any ore would have to be hauled back to Kspace. High sec wh mostly have exits into high or low sec from what I've read. I'm going to spend more time working on my scanning finding anything other than easy sites can take 1/2 hour or more.

Mining op as usual this Saturday, folks! I will be online around 2000-2100 Eve time but, as always, feel free to begin whenever there are enough of us online. This one's going to be paid, too. The longer you participate, the greater a share of the profits you'll get.

Once again I'm stuck elsewhere this Saturday afternoon/evening, so no mining for me. I did however do some today, and I dropped one load of minerals in the corp hanger as my contribution for the week.

That's great, thank you Barrakketh. I understand that for some people weekends are actually more difficult than week days, so I think we should ramp up to two mining ops a week if there's enough interest.

Here are the results from last night's op (attached). Good job! There were only four of us so the payout should be pretty good. The bad news is we'll have to wait for one of our expert refiners to process it all, then we need to ship the minerals to somewhere like Alentene to sell for the best price.

Well Onos was able to get the ore from the Op refined for us and the minerals are in the can. I dropped in to Goron and took a look at the total at today's market value, and we're looking at about 15.5 mil before tax. Not too bad for 3 miners, a hauler, and a couple hours in high-sec.

Great, thanks a lot Barrakketh! We should be looking at 3-4 million each then. Definitely not bad for a couple of hours in high-sec pissing about! Booner, I won't be online until tonight so you can go ahead and sell it all if you like.
