A few weeks ago hepcat and I toyed with the idea of bringing back Halo 3 MP sessions.  My wife has expressed interest in playing again, and I know a few others have mentioned how much they miss our weekly Halo 3 massacres.  Is there enough interest to put together a MP game this evening?  I have a work meeting at 4pm this afternoon (what kind of sick fuck schedules a meeting at 4pm on a FRIDAY), and Moliere and I aren't playing pool until tomorrow afternoon, which means I will be home tonight and available to play some online MP.  PhillyPeteRock is back!

Anyone care to join me and my wife in an evening of stickybun grenades, B-is-for-bitchslaps, and rocket races?  Although it'll be far less "interesting" without Kato behind the wheel, but it would be nice to some familiar faces, especially with teabags placed gently over their eyes.  Some put pennies over the eyes of the deceased so that they can pay the toll on their way to Charon.  Others use balls.   icon_wink

My availability depends on whether I'll be asked to entertain my "gracious" hosts following our meeting with dinner and drinks, but I should still be home at a reasonable hour (by 7pm Pacific).  Who's up for some nostalgia?

I'm in.  Anyone know what DLC's are available these days for halo 3?

edit:  ah, i found it.  appears the heroic map pack is free, while the legendary pack has dropped to 600 points.  i'll grab both.

I would be in if I didn't already have other plans tonight.

If they end early, though, I'll log in.  Otherwise, I'll have to do this another night.

I sold off Halo3 so I won't be partaking. Have fun all.

I might be around for a little bit - I was a latecomer to Halo 3 so I have very little MP under my belt, but would be glad to have the opportunity to play.

The wife is stuck doing happy hour and dinner for work (they've got a recruit in town), but when she gets home she'll be ready to kill.  Snrub1 is planning to make an appearance as well.  As long as we have enough to form two reasonable teams it should make for an entertaining night.  Just look both ways when crossing the sand.  Those elephants can come out of nowhere.

Looking at those scores I'd just like to point out that halfway through the game I handed the controller to a monkey that was sitting next to me.  In between swigs from his bottle of Johnny Walker Red and a crudely implemented hand signal tutorial from yours truly, he was able to pick up the basics of the game....

...yeah....that's my story and i'm sticking to it.

That may have been the night I discovered that not only can you add people to your Friends list, but you can remove them as well.

It frightens me that you continue to maintain stats from our past sessions for continued bragging rights.  But it only continues to support that removing you from my Friends list was an appropriate course of action.

I can understand your difficulty in understanding my directions as they don't lead to the goal markers, which can be confusing, as my directions lead back to me because your usual driving shenanigans have lead to me once again being thrown so far from the vehicle that I no longer show up on your map.   icon_lol

In order to do that, don't you at least have to get a shot off before I kill you?  Perhaps you should find something else to speak for you.  You know, something that actually has a chance to utter a sound before you're taken to the respawn screen.

So, playing on Friday inspired me to dabble a little more with Halo 3 multi, and I played some Lone Wolf today raising my rank and skill a bit.

I had a question though - I was always playing with people whose skill points were similar to mine (1-7 or so), but sometimes I would look at their service record and it would say that they had maximum skill rankings in the 30's. How did their skill level go down so much?

If I remember correctly, skill points are based on each game type, and aren't an overall thing.

For example, if you never played Lone Wolf, but only Team Slayer, your Lone Wolf skill would be a 1, while your Team Slayer skill would be much higher.

Ah, OK. Although I can't say I agree with that design choice. If you are good at Lone Wolf, you're going to be good at Team Slayer, because being good at either requires the same skills. I was trying out the big map team game tonight, and there were guys on there that clearly didn't belong playing with rank 2s and 3s (they were too good), but just hadn't ranked up on that playtype yet.

I am sad that I missed this.  I would like to get some hot Halo action going on again.

I understand that Kato went so far as to pick up a copy from the PX while he's recovering just so he could participate in last week's festivities.  I'd be more than willing to participate in future Halo 3 nights as my wife loves to play and it's a chance for all of us to chat, mock each other (especially Kato as even after losing one eye and an arm he still hands us our asses), and just have a lot of fun.  Last week we had seven or so players.  If we would have had eight we would have definitely given Rocket Race a spin, but we instead enjoyed the chaotic mess of Crazy King of the Hill, a number of slayer deathmatch games with a variety of adjustments, and we even tried a few other modes out of curiosity.

Moliere is leaving for Europe in two days and so until October 3rd my Moliere/PeteRock Friday night pool battles will be on hold until his return.  My Friday nights will be open until then, so perhaps this would be a good opportunity to get back to organizing Friday Night Geezers Gone Wild games again.

I actually enjoyed the "stealth scud" game.  Basically, it was rocket slayer with constant camo.  i ended up just riding the "man cannon" back and forth between the two platforms, firing like a madmen in mid air in a desperate attempt to catch anyone else using that rapid express system.

i also enjoyed teggy's strategy of waiting until i was running like hell from kato and then popping up to blast my ass with whatever utensil he had handy.  i believe he actually killed me with a spork at one point....

As odd as it may sound, "Stealth Scud" forced us to incorporate more stealth into a game of rockets and so instead of the usual chaos we had a very methodical game of cat-and-mouse.  It was definitely something different to mix things up a bit.  And it was certainly challenging to keep your eyes peeled for that visual flutter indicating someone with active cammo was nearby.   ninja

Hey, never underestimate the effectiveness of the spork:

Jaime was pretty pumped that she won a round of Crazy King of the Hill as she usually fares pretty badly in that gametype.  I still had to hear about it evefn after we quit for the night.   disgust

I'm hoping that next time we have a slightly better turnout so that we have enough for team-based games.  And we really need a round of Rocket Race.   icon_twisted
