Password manager

Anyone using one or have opinions on them?  My sister just asked me to look at them for my Mom's use, she just writes the passwords down all over the place.  I figure a manager might be a better solution.  I did find this article from a year ago

1Password works fantastic on OSX and iOS... never tried it on Windows.

I use keepass 2.x on windows 7, with a long phrase password that's easily remembered.

Then I've put my database on my google drive so I can access it anywhere, including my android phone.

However, I haven't tried any other programs besides keepass. From what I've seen around, keepass is full featured, but also rough in terms of ease of use.

Thanks guys,  those two programs seem to show up often when I search for managers.  I'll probably give keepass a try as it is free and a good place to start.

I'm trying the demo for 1Password right now and already it seems a bit more user friendly. It is $50, but I've found this kind of software incredibly useful as it's simplified my life.

Whereas keepass is primarily for passwords and any extra data can be handled, but feels bolted on, 1Password handles them with their own interfaces.

Keepass you end up putting a lot of stuff in the text boxes, which works, and is secure, you can even drop in all sorts of files within entries, but you'll usually have to set it up ahead of time. 1Password seems to do the same, but it has many different types of entries built in. It also has browser extensions, however keepass's built in auto-fill has worked quite well for me.

So if you're a power user, go with keepass because it's free and you'll know how to work with it. 1Password is a bit easier on those who are at least savvy enough to fill out web forms.

I use Lastpass and it's pretty good so far.

I picked it because of how it integrates with Chrome and firefox. It's knows when you are signing up for a new website and offers to generate a new password and save the login information, and you can manage if it will autofill your login information.  There are a few websites that I've found where the auto login feature doesn't work.

In terms of security, they state that the encryption and decryption is done on your computer, and the information is sent to their servers encrypted to your passphrase.

This. Expensive, but very good program. Syncs well with dropbox also. I want the PC version, just don't want to spend the money.

If your Mom uses an Iphone or more than one computer, I highly recommend Roboform.  It syncs all your data across platforms so I am never without my passwords.  In addition, it autofills your logins, generates passwords, etc...
