After playing Quake 4 at the preview event last week, I came to realize I need a set of headphones for gaming. Mainly to still hang out in the office when My Fair Lady is studying or working, but I will no longer disturb her with my gaming. So, what are your thoughts on good quality headphones out there? Do they come with varying lengths of cable? Is the generic model better or worse off than the name brand?

Wow, really nice.  I may have to save up my pennies for one of those.  My MS Sidewinder Hockey Puck isnt really seeing much use.

Does it have a hardware volume adjust?  Doing it through Windows is a bit inconvenient when you are in-game.  That's actually the main reason I'm still using the hockeypuck.

Bose Tripod. http://www.bose.com/controller?event=VIEW_PRODUCT_PAGE_EVENT&product=triport_headphones_index. Great headphones, really great headphones. Well, worth the money IMHO. I have used them one the PSP, the DS, XBOX games, same with cube and PC games and all sound great. BTW, the cable is maybe 5ft...? I`m not really sure, but I think their site might say.

So, question for the reviewer of this headset (or whoever owns it) - can you mute the mic with a switch on the device or something? My current headset/mic has that, and it's a must in my mind.

All heaphones are the same to me, so i just go my local pawn shop or the mall and just pick up a new pair = 9.99. I dont see how the more expensive ones that cost around 60 or 100 bucks is suppose to be better.

How much more can you hear the music or sound effects before your head explodes?

Believe you me, once you listen to music or play a game with good quality headphones you'll think twice about that.

I used to think that.  Until I listened to some music on my friend's headphones (forgot what brand they were, but they were apparently around $200) and was blown away by the sound quality.

LMFAO, i think i will pass and just listen to the ones that cost 9.99. All that money can go to some bills or food or something more important. WTF 200 bucks

KD and Damage - I went with the Logitech USB 350 and it's terrific. Thanks for the reminder of that review. smile

I use my trusty AKG K 240 Monitor headphones.  I bought them for music but they work fine with my games.

I do like those Logitech headphones reviewed with the built in microphone.  Sure beats the freebies I got with UT2k4!

But boy oh boy do they sound absolutely fantastic!

The Logitech pair I picked up that Damage linked to above are pretty terrific themselves. And hey, $50 at the Comp USA down the street from me worked out for the best. smile
