I just checked my C drive and noticed that some directories had multiple copies of the directory, but with sequential letters missing, for example:

C:\P
C:\Pr
C:\Pro
C:\Prog
C:\Progr
C:\Progra
C:\Program
C:\Program F
C:\Program Fi
C:\Program Fil
C:\Program File
C:\Program Files
C:\Program Files (
C:\Program Files (x
C:\Program Files (x8
C:\Program Files (x86
C:\Program Files (x86)

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this? It seems like pretty obvious virus behavior, or someone has gotten into my system and is having some harmless fun.

Either way, it's worrying. I did a search online, the due diligence but can't find anything on this specific problem.

If it is a virus, I need to find the specific one so I can start the removal process, and google isn't helping.

Tongue

So, may have found a non-virus origin for this.

I had recently installed the Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator game for a LAN party along with its update patch. The two directories that suffered from this problem were the two places it tried to install, first the program files, then the Games directory that I usually install games to.

I think there was a problem with one of the self made installers.

I'm going to uninstall it and try installing again, just to confirm it and assuage my worries.

EDIT: Confirmed. It was the installer that was broken.
